1 Dear FCCD members, We are pleased to present the attached slate for the church year. We are excited to announce that Philip Jacobs has agreed to be our moderator! For those of you who do not know Phil (he is a regular 8:30 AM church goer), we have attached a brief bio and a photo of him and his family. Additionally, please note: Our church's by-laws call for three equal classes of four board members each, on each of the major boards (Deacons calls for three classes of six). Over the past few years the classes have become a bit unbalanced, though they have been shown as equal classes (some board members were placed in a class for balance purposes, when they in reality should have been in a different class based on the start of their term). This year we are going to show it like it is (where people's terms actually end) and therefore the slate will look a bit unbalanced for some boards. Please know that going forward, we will be working diligently to get back to an equal/balanced class system per our by-laws. Please feel free to contact me or any of the Nominating Committee members should you have any questions. Thank you! Molly Watkins Nominating Chair
2 Philip Morgan Jacobs Bio First Congregational Church of Darien April 2017 Philip Jacobs and his wife Eliot moved to Darien in Philip and Eliot have 3 children: Morgan Jacobs DesPrez (29), Harriet Jacobs (25), and Jay Jacobs (20). Morgan was married to David DesPrez in 2014 in a ceremony officiated by Dale Rosenberger. Philip and Eliot have been married for nearly 31 years. When first married, they lived on the campus of the St. Andrew s School, Middletown, Delaware, where Eliot was a high school French teacher and coach. In their nearly 31 years of marriage, the Jacobs family has lived in Wilmington, Delaware; Rowayton, CT; Wilton, CT; Munich, Germany; Kansas City, Kansas, and since 2006, Darien. Philip and Eliot also lived briefly in London, England. Philip has been active in community affairs. (Eliot has been even more active, but she notes that this is supposed to be Philip s bio, not hers ). While in Rowayton, Philip was a member of the Rowayton Civic Association. In Wilton, Philip was an Elder in the Wilton Presbyterian Church. He has been a long- time trustee of the Princeton University Rowing Association. For the last 7 years, Philip has been a Board member of Laurel House, a not- for- profit in Stamford, CT providing care and services for adults suffering from mental illness. Philip and Eliot have been members of the First Congregational Church of Darien since Philip was born in New York City and spent his childhood in Cos Cob and Greenwich, CT. He graduated from Greenwich High School. Both Philip and Eliot graduated from Princeton University. Philip is a Principal at the accounting firm of KPMG in New York City. He is a corporate tax specialist. His first job out of college was a teacher and coach at the St. Andrew s School. He has been working in Finance focusing primarily on the taxation of insurance companies since 1983.
