1 Heritage Court Waukesha Memory Care Community Heritage Newsletter 1831 Meadow Lane, Pewaukee, WI heritagesenior.com October 2018 Dear residents and families, Letter from the Director Heritage is dedicated to providing quality services, and our staff, together with our quality department, work continuously to improve our practices and knowledge in order to provide excellent care and amenities. Our annual Resident Satisfaction Survey, which you will be Kim Bibb receiving this month, helps us in our mission, providing qualitative Executive Director responses that help us form action plans to help us improve. This survey measures your opinions on a variety of topics, including housekeeping, amenities, security, care, and more, and allows you to rank them from 1(very dissatisfied) to 5 (very satisfied). Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey and return it to us by mid-november. In the coming months, we ll review the surveys, then share the results with you along with our action plans for future improvements based on the data we ve collected. Thank you for taking the time to help us improve. Your feedback is appreciated! Sincerely, Kim Bibb Resident Recognition: Melvin Story Melvin, a Kenosha native, is our resident historian. His first jobs were picking strawberries, then building engines for the Navy at Nash Motors. His high school education was interrupted in 1945 when he joined the Marines, where he was an ace pilot. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and worked as French/business arithmetic instructor. After his service, he graduated from UW-Madison with a PhD in philosophy, then was in the personnel field at Durant Mfg. Co. in the. Nowadays he enjoys classical music, books and watching westerns and musical comedy movies. He always looks forward to seeing his wife, Marcy, and his three children and six grandchildren. The Heritage Senior Living Mission: To provide the highest standard while protecting, cherishing, and dignifying the knowledge, value, and joy of our respected residents.
2 w A Message from the Wellness Nurse Stay Healthy This Flu Season Flu season is officially upon us. Which means if you haven t gotten your flu shot yet, make sure to schedule it soon! You can also check with your community director to see when flu shots will be offered in your community. On top of getting your flu shot, here are other steps you can take to ensure you and your loved ones stay healthy: Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often spread when a person touches a contaminated item, then touches their own face. Get plenty of sleep. This will help your boost your immune system, as will being physically active, drinking plenty of fluids and managing your stress. Wash your hands often. If soap and water aren t available, use an alcohol hand sanitizer. Avoid close contact with those who are ill. And remember: If you are experiencing flu symptoms (particularly difficulty Cathy Thomas Wellness Director breathing, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness or persistent vomiting) seek medical attention right away! A Message from Culinary Snacks to Satisfy your Fried Food Cravings Fall brings with it beautiful foliage and plentiful harvests. It also, unfortunately, brings the end of the grilling season. But don t despair! There are plenty of other fun ways to prepare your favorite foods ways that can even make your vegetables interesting! This fall consider bringing a little crunchy goodness to your vegetables by frying them. Broccoli cauliflower and domestic or wild mushrooms are particularly good when lightly battered and fried in a healthy oil. Serve them with a fun dipping sauce like ranch, hot sauce, barbecue sauce or even low-sodium soy sauce to crank up the flavor profile. Lightly fried vegetables can Tracy Schreib Culinary Director make a great side dish or meal or a festive tailgating snack. And the best part is, they are simple and easy to make (and quite tasty)! Our Quality Promise to You Our quality promise starts with commitment. Heritage Senior Living is committed to listening to YOU. Got an idea? A suggestion? We want to hear it. Quality matters so we appreciate your ideas and input. Whether you are an employee, a resident, a family member or a visitor, let us know. us at: quality@heritageal.com
