AUTUMN 2018 NEWSLETTER Hello Everyone Your Patient Participation Group (PPG for short) Members continue to be very actively supporting The Park Medical Practice in every respect. Like all Practices at present, The Park Medical Practice is facing increasingly difficult times due to GP shortages, new Medical Directives, an increasingly mature clientele and the worry of technology passing by patients who do not have/understand internet connection. We are all constantly monitoring these aspects and trying to make helpful constructive suggestions to the Practice Team. ALL Staff at the Practice, who work tirelessly under increasing pressure and stress, are only human and always put their patients first. Doctors are reducing hours in all areas of the NHS due to retirements, pressure of work, patients expectations and patients attitudes. However, on a brighter note! CONGRATULATIONS are due to our Borrowash Surgery for their fantastic, tireless effort in their garden and flower display! How fabulous it is that we have been nominated for a prize for the best commercial business, or place of worship category in the Erewash in Bloom. Please help us to support your Practice FROM YOUR PPG P.S. Please let us know if there is any specific information you want us to include in the Christmas Newsletter.

Gardening Group following the successes we had with the Borrowash Garden, we are starting a monthly gardening group 9.00am 11.00am on the last Sunday of the month for patients/staff. If you have any knowledge of gardening or just want to help us, please turn up at Borrowash the next dated will be planting bulbs and weeding on Sunday 30 September. All help very welcome. 2018/2019 SEASONAL INFLUENZA VACCINATIONS Time soon comes around! Flu Clinics will begin to be planned. Our raffles at the Clinics are our attempt to add extra support for facilities for patients at ALL branches of the Practice, so please COME TO US for your flu jab! We will make you welcome and you also have the security of knowing there is a Doctor and Nurse on hand if you have any problem or need advice. And have a raffle ticket! So please, we ALWAYS need your help and co-operation. We need to support our unique Practices in EVERY respect particularly NOW. YOUR PRACTICE NEEDS YOU! The Department of Health has introduced some changes to how we administer the seasonal Flu vaccination. This year all patients aged 65-years and above will received the ADJUVANTED TRIVALENT influenza vaccination which protests against 3 strains of flu and is the most effective vaccine available for this age group. Adults aged years in a clinical at risk group will receive the QUADRIVALENT influenza vaccination which protects against 4 strains of flu. Children will continue to receive the Live Nasal influenza vaccine. Children under the age of 5-years have the highest rate of hospital admissions for flu. By vaccinating these children it will not only provide them with individual protection but help to protect the wider community.

The Practice is currently exploring different ways to provide quick, effective and accessible flu vaccinations to our patients. FLU CLINICS PLEASE RING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT OR ASK WHEN YOU ARE PASSING THE SURGERY CHADDESDEN SURGERY SATURDAY 06 OCTOBER 2018 BORROWASH SURGERY SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER 2018 (BORROWASH METHODIST CHURCH) OAKWOOD SURGERY SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2018 We would really like to thank those patients who have their flu vaccination done by the Surgery Team rather than other Providers. This ensures that the profits are used to develop services in the Practice for the benefit of our patients. NEW FACES - We would like to welcome Chloe and Georgina who are our 2 new Apprentice Receptionists. We also have Ann joining our Reception Team. Dr Zara Khalique will be joining the Practice for 6-months. PRIMARY CARE PLUS We have now opened our 5 th HUB AT Park Farm Surgery, Allestree. We have had 20,000 appointments since the Service started. In October we are starting a multi-disciplinary, a frail and elderly Home Visiting Service. Our home visits may be undertaken by a Health Professional, it could be a Paramedic, Community Matron, GP or another Member of our Team. The Team are seen by experienced GPs and have full access to the patient s records. We will only visit people who are truly housebound. This hopefully will free up the GP time in the Surgery.

HOLIDAYS Holidays have been a source of joy Ever since I was a boy The first ones I remember most Were church trips to the North East Coast By bus or train out for the day to Redcar, Roker or Whitley Bay Blackpool was a favourite venue The rest of the village went there too! A fleet of buses over Pennines Peaks To spend the annual Miner s two-weeks Teenage adventure was to see what it takes To go shinning up mountains and Youth Hostels in the lakes! In impecunious early married life, I went camping with my wife When children came, the family plan we opted for a caravan Then teenage lads took the independence stand Scandinavia, Europe, the Mediterranean Coasts Walking high up in Switzerland we enjoyed the most So it was car, bus, boat, plane and train for us En-route to our terminus Now much less than that will do for me as I approach eternity! ARTHUR BROWN

OUR SPECIAL PHLEBOTOMIST If Julie is booked to take your blood Do not fret she is very good She is very skilled these days my dears And no one should have any fears Julie knows just what to do And always does her best for you Don t watch the needle going in Just clench your teeth and force a grin Before you know it, blood is flowing Then you can look at where it s going The needle is out and all is great You feel you want to celebrate Now that you know there is no need to fear You can leave the Surgery with a cheer Taking your blood is Julie s role And she always has things under control ANNE SMITH
