2 2... POWER PILATES IS ABSOLUTELY CONTAGIOUS. I tried it out because I was told I would see results in only a few weeks while actually having fun. Not only have I seen results while having fun, I have also come to realize that it is a complete mind/body workout - I M HOOKED! - Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank I HAVE SEEN GREAT GAINS IN CORE STRENGTH AND STABILITY AS WELL AS INCREASES IN FLEXIBILITY. Injuries have reduced and posture is improved. In my opinion an athlete can have great strength in their arms and legs but if they cannot transfer that power up or down the kinetic chain it means nothing on the field or court. 3 3 TRAINING PROGRAMS In 1997, Power Pilates established its first teacher training programs in New York City to preserve and teach the classical technique of Joseph Pilates. The demand for quality instructors led to an international network of affiliate training centers, all of which meet Power Pilates high standard of education and commitment to excellence. We have certified over 10,000 instructors worldwide. In our unique programs, the exercises and principles created by Joseph Pilates are taught through a classicalsystematic-integrative approach. Classical or authentic pertains to the exercises being taught and the vocabulary used to teach them. Systematic relates to the progression and sequence of a session. Integrative refers to the inclusion of various pieces of apparatus utilized within a session to meet each individual s needs. In our unique programs, the exercises and principles created by Joseph Pilates are taught through a classicalsystematic-integrative approach. Classical or authentic pertains to the exercises being taught and the vocabulary used to teach them. Systematic relates to the progression and sequence of a session. In addition to learning the exercises, our students develop a deep understanding of pilates, learn the specifics of a balanced workout, the ability to recognize proper body mechanics, and the methods necessary to work with special case clients (i.e. those with back, neck, knee, shoulder problems). Most important, our students learn what to teach, and why it is important - we call this the art of teaching. Power Pilates believes that learning is an ongoing process and certification is the first step. Once they have successfully completed one of our training programs, students are required to complete a certain number of continuing education courses through Power Pilates every two years. The number of courses depends upon the certificate being renewed. These courses allow students to review the principles and exercises learned during certification, explore topics not covered during the training program, and most importantly, maintain the integrity of teaching as well as the method. Power Pilates has developed the most extensive continuing education curriculum in the Pilates community.
4 4 TRAINING PRO- THE POWER PILATES DIFFERENCE Power Pilates was founded in 1989 with one goal to provide classical pilates training that honors the integrity of the method developed by Joseph Pilates. Since then, Power Pilates has created a global community of passionate professionals and consumers stretching from the US to South America, Europe and the Far East. Today, there are more than 100 affiliated and participating training centers worldwide, supported by over 10,000 Power Pilates trained graduates. There are many pilates professional training programs on the market claiming to be the fastest, the cheapest or the easiest. Power Pilates took a different tack right from its inception and is neither the fastest, nor the cheapest nor the easiest. Power Pilates is distinguished by an unrelenting emphasis on the classical pilates method. Our systematic teaching model and rigorous training standards further the development of confidence and leadership. Power Pilates teaching process provides essential tools that act as a blueprint for students to follow. Each program is organized into a series of exercises which have been documented in a model and consistently adhered to by all of our Teacher Trainers throughout the world. The documentation addresses the anatomical foundations, ideal/alternative movements and specific verbal and sensory cues to provide the student with a thorough teaching foundation. The systematic approach makes teaching simpler and enables us to focus on a consistent teaching experience. As a result, wherever and whenever you take a Power Pilates class, you experience the same high quality program through the various voices and personalities of each of our graduates. 7 7 TRAINING PROGRAMS THE SPIRIT OF POWER PILATES Power Pilates has had a profound sense of community from the beginning. At its roots, Power Pilates has sought to create a pilates community in the spirit of Joseph Pilates energetic, committed and ever evolving. After starting with a nascent community of just a few enthusiastic instructors, the Power Pilates community has grown the total population of pilots professionals and consumers into tens of thousands on a global scale. Though the Power Pilates community has grown in size, the spirit remains intact. This spirit is reflected in our core beliefs, in the way we organize our training programs and in the way we teach and work with students. You can feel it in the energy exuded at our regional conferences, you can feel it in the sweat breaking through during a workout session and you can feel it in the concentration of a new student listening to a senior trainer. One way to understand the community Power Pilates has established is best illustrated in a short anecdote: A student in one of our training programs was traveling abroad. She had the misfortune of being mugged, having all of her possessions stolen. She was stranded far away from home and reached out to call Power Pilates, who put her in contact with the owner of a training center in the country in which she was staying. The owner provided her with a cell phone, spending money, and support in getting a new passport. At a time when one of our students was most vulnerable she was relieved to have the support of her extended Power Pilates family. The more we grow, the more important it is for us to preserve the Power Pilates community and to never stop growing and evolving.
