2 OUR MISSION STATEMENT YWCA Hamilton strengthens women's and girls' voices, broadens their choices, builds dynamic leadership and provides essential and meaningful services that promote safe, inclusive, and equitable communities. As part of YWCA Hamilton s commitment to Access and Equity, we strive to represent the diverse communities that we serve. We encourage participation from women and men of all diverse backgrounds. YWCA Ottawa Street Active Living Centre offers a variety of fitness and wellness programs designed to promote physical and emotional well-being; performing arts programs focusing on skill development and social programs to enhance the sense of belonging and fellowship. The winter weather can be quite unpredictable, but count on the Centre to deliver some great programming, special socials, and much more. Pick up a free pass today and try something new. Renew your annual seniors' membership at this location; membership sales directly affect our annual budget. Hamilton Residents: $30.60 year (taxes included) Non-Residents: $43.85 year (taxes included) Program Cancellations Courses are sometimes cancelled when participants wait until the last minute to register or for insufficient registration. Register early for programs to avoid disappointment. Also note instructors may change without notice. Term Duration All terms are scheduled for 10 weeks except the summer term which runs for a total of 8 weeks. Please note, the centre will make every effort possible to make up any missed/postponed classes throughout the term at the end of the current term. The centre will be closed on the following dates: Thursday January 1st - New Year s Day Monday February 16th - Family Day CENTRE INFO

4 FITNESS Jumpstart/Heartsmart An energized low impact aerobic workout created to strengthen your heart, boost your mood, reduce health risks and live longer. Mondays 9:30-10:30 am Fridays 9:30-10:30 am Stretch & Strengthen An overall workout designed to increase energy levels, reduce muscle tension, optimize strength, flexibility and endurance. Tuesday 1:00-2:00 pm Fridays 11:00-12:00 pm Machines Enter the fitness centre and use a variety of exercise equipment under the watchful eye of a trained professional. Treadmills, stationary bikes or spend some time strength training. Monday 9:30-10:30 am Wednesdays 11:00-12:00 pm Crossfit This class will push you to your physical limits. A great balance of strength and endurance. Free Class Pass Is there a class we offer that you would like to try? Have you been thinking about a program but you are just not sure? Want to bring a friend? Drop by the centre and pick up a FREE CLASS PASS, this card allows you to try one class of the program of your choice. Please note: Some classes have a maximum number of participants, so please call in advance before using the free pass. Events Voucher Bring a friend who doesn t have a membership to a class or program and you will receive a free ticket to the next special event. The more friends you bring the more tickets you will receive! Please note you will only receive one ticket for every new person you bring and the individual must sign up for a new membership and the program Volunteers Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and very rewarding. The centre would not be able to run smoothly without the wonderful kindness of volunteers, because staff cannot be at every class. If you know of a member who is assisting with class setups, helping the instructors with various tasks, etc. please let staff know so we can recognize these individuals and add them to our volunteer listing. INCENTIVES Wednesday 9:30-10:30 am

5 Mind Classes Mind Busters Never leave your seat while you challenge your mind to a variety of brain exercises. Attack your short and long term memory with a series of flash cards, mazes, awareness activities and much more. You will receive a tracking sheet at the beginning of the program and watch your individual progress soar! This program is perfect for everyone; challenge the brain and watch your results! Mondays 6:00-7:00 pm. Computer Lab The computer lab is available to members who wish to surf the net, check s, Skype family and friends, etc. Drop in and use the lab. Please note teaching is not available to participants while in the lab. Free access to lab on Friday 1:00-4:00 pm SPECIAL NEEDS SERVICES YWCA Hamilton s Active Living Centre encourages persons with disabilities to become involved in activities of their choice, at a participation level suitable to their ability. Every effort is made to provide integrated programs in an environment that is safe and enjoyable for all members. Persons with disabilities, who require additional support in order to participate are welcome to bring their caregiver to accompany them at no additional charge. Zumba Gold Welcome to Zumba! Zumba Gold takes the Zumba formula of Latin dance fitness with the focus on music but then modifies the moves and pace for an active participant. Mondays Thursdays 10:00-11:00 am Yoga This program increases flexibility and helps to relieve stress. Modified for older adults. Each class ends with soothing meditation. This program can also be modified for someone who needs a chair for extra support. Wednesday 9:45-10:45 am Gentle Tai Chi Join this low impact exercise and improve posture Tuesday 11:00-12:00 pm Aquafit Extreme The class will begin with a small chat session with friends (10 minutes) and then it's straight to work. A total body blast, upper and lower body - the works! Tuesdays 11:00-12:00 pm Fridays 11:00-12:00 pm FITNESS

6 FITNESS Aquamaniacs Push yourself through a variety of aqua fit intervals. Mondays 11:00-12:00 pm Aqua Tai Chi The gentle movements of tai chi combined with the resistance training of aqua fit. Plus we are celebrating the New Year, with a delicious dessert and some sparkling cider, Cheers! Tickets $7.00 members or $9.00 non-members FRIENDSHIP WEEK Monday February 9th - Friday February 13th. Bring a friend to class week, show off to your friends all the great programs you have been participating in. Bring a family member with you and have fun working out together. There is no charge to bring a friend or family member - just have fun. FRIENDSHIP TEA Thursday February 12th 1:00-2:30 pm Happy Valentines Day, Join us while we celebrate friendship and fun. Dessert will be fresh strawberry tarts and a variety of fancy teas. Enjoy a really unique getting to know you afternoon Tickets $7.00 members or $9.00 non-members ST. PATRICKS DAY CELEBRATION Tuesday March 17th 1:00 2:30 Wear your green and join us for a green shamrock ice cream float. 7 GET INVOLVED Centre Boutique The Centre has an amazing boutique which is located by the sign in desk. Gently used clothing items, costume jewelry, etc.. All money raised from the boutique go back to the Centre. We need your help in stocking the boutique, bring in your gently used items and we can put it in our boutique. Library The Centre has a wonderfully fully stocked lending library available to all members. We have every genre of book and the library is in alphabetical order, so finding a book is a breeze. If you are cleaning out your library, please consider dropping your books off to us. Please note all of the improvements to our lending library are due to the incredible efforts of our librarian, Barb Smith. Feedback Welcome The Centre is always looking for feedback. Do you have an amazing program idea, or is there a program that we are not currently offering but you would like to see it being offered here? Do you have a wonderful special event thought that you would like to see come to life? Talk to staff today and share your ideas! Bingo Enjoy a morning of Bingo, prizes, fun, coffee, tea and treats. Share a morning with old or new friends. Tuesdays 10:30-11:30 am $3.50/visit Progressive Euchre Meet new friends, enjoy a lot of laughs, play for fun and prizes. Social gathering with tea and treats after the game. No partner necessary. Beginner lessons available staring at 12:15pm. Fridays 1:00-3:00 pm Bid Euchre Meet new friends, enjoy a lot of laughs, play for fun and prizes. Social gathering with tea and treats after the game. Bid Euchre combines the principles of euchre and bridge. No partner necessary. Beginner lessons available starting at 12:15pm. Webcams, skype, chat rooms, youtube, blog, music and much more, don t forget we also use memory sticks to save the data! Mondays 1:00-3:00pm (Beginner) Tuesdays 11:30-1:30 pm (Intermediate) Thursdays 1:00-3:00 pm (Advanced) $44.50/term Laptop Lessons Bring your own laptop for a hands on class that will teach you a variety of computer skills; programs, searching the internet and social media platforms. Please note: laptops will not be provided, you must bring a laptop to participate. Thursdays 4:30-6:00 pm $44.50/term Ballroom Line Dance Ballroom dance styles and the line dance formula, a perfect combination. Thursday 6:00-7:00 pm. Creative Social Are you a social crafter? Over the course of the term learn 5 very fun and creative crafts ideas. All supplies included. Thursday 1:00-2:30 pm. $15.00/term Step Ahead - Advanced Foot Care The centre is host to a foot care clinic every other month. Let a trained nurse take care of your foot care needs, no more worry! Book your appointment in advance with staff. Please call the senior centre office today at ext. 31 Foot Care Dates: Wednesday January 7th, 2015 Wednesday March 4th, 2015 Cost - $20.00 per appointment. Coffee Corner The YWCA Ottawa Street Active Living Centre has a kitchen space for all members to use on daily basis. With so many hot drinks to choose from, it s a great way to warm up for before or after your class. Enjoy a variety of hot specialty teas, coffee, or hot chocolate with friends for only $1.00 each. Connect Hearing - Hearing Testing Clinics Connect hearing is hosting a series of hearing testing clinics right here at the centre. Check the notice boards for the upcoming clinic dates and book your appointment today, The clinics are free, so take advantage of this opportunity. SERVICES

Learn all the basics of Facebook, searching for friends, setting up your page, adding photos, adding likes, researching ideas and thoughts plus much more.
