1 ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES WOMEN ON THE WAY (WOW) DATE: June 3, :00 AM - 11:30 AM Midtown Jamerson Center, Community Room 141 MEMBERS PRESENT: Laura Bentz, Belinthia Berry, Cynthia Burnham, Shirley Crumbley, Ann Donald, Nikki Gaskin-Capehart, Qiona Gibbons, Dr. Misty Kemp SPC: Mary Wall, Nikishea Wright, Pepper Harth MEMBERS ABSENT: Dr. Linda Hogans, Loretta Horne, Terri Lipsey-Scott, Patricia Colin TOPIC DISCUSSION/RECOMMENDATIONS ACTION Meeting called to order at 10:00 am by Shirley Crumbley Welcome/Roll Call/Pledge of Allegiance Shirley welcomed everyone. Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and roll call conducted Tyrone Clinton, Associate Provost, MT welcomed all, offered success rates, spoke of services available at MT A motion was made by Shirley for approval of 9/24/15 minutes. Motion seconded by Laura Bentz Review of Action Items from 9/24/15 PATRICIA: -Requested Ways You Can Help brochure and Adopt-A-Family (AAF) information to be sent to donor LAURA: -GFWC St. Petersburg Junior Women s Club partnership with Midtown -Address was provided, brochure and information was mailed -Attended dinner in December, 2015, and received $150 to start sundry closet May, 2016, Invited to give WOW Presentation on Give Day Tampa Bay, received $250 -New Seminole Advisor reached out to Laura Bentz for a possible GFWC Seminole Branch partnership

2 -WOW visibility at Midtown Review of Action Items from 9/24/15 (cont.) -Methods used to advertise program at MT includes: Board for postings, A-Frames, TV screens, developing 11 x 13 poster for elevators, presentations in College Success and Smart Start classes, Thursday weekly meetings 12:30-1:30 pm, with students Introductions WOW Updates JACKIE: -Suggested stats should be used, to track students and program successes -Committee members introduced themselves -Mission of committee was shared -Responsibility/Election of Chairman was addressed Seminole is currently housed in portable, but will relocate to University Partnership Center in July - Midtown is not housed in the new Jamerson Center, it is located a block down the street at the Cecil B. Keene Achievement Center LAURA: -Do you need an official recommendation from the Advisory Committee to request Midtown move to Jamerson Bldg.? DR. KEMP: -Dr. Kemp will assist in collecting data to create stats brochure DR. KEMP: -Dr. Misty Kemp volunteered to serve as Chairman of Advisory Committee -Move in date to new WOW center is scheduled for July 28, WOW is expanding college wide and help with the interviewing process for St. Petersburg/Gibbs and Tarpon Spring campuses was elicited

3 WOW Updates (cont.) -The gym across the street was purchased and WOW could possibly move there which is closer to the Jamerson Center, but we are unware of the plans for that site at this time Open Forum -Shirley explained the Adopt-A- Family (AAF) process Open Forum Strategies to Grow Program -Requested to be added as a potential 2016 AAF donor ANN: -Suggested we Implement an online orientation process to pull in additional students to the program DR. KEMP: -Online Learning Communities to reach out to students, Facebook concept. Career Services can host webinars for workshops ANN: - In Resources on the Main Page, Students can view online webinars to receive credit for workshops ANN: -Suggested a Book lending stipend to buy books for online students out of area QIONA: -Clothing boutique online Suggestion of taking pictures of clothes MARY: -Add Baldwin Women s Residence (St. Pete Free Clinic) as potential donor for 2016 Adopt-A-Family (AAF) -Jason Nicholson could help create webinar for NSO

4 Open Forum Strategies to Grow Program (cont.) St. Pete Free Clinic is opening a clothing boutique in the evening Open Items Student Profiles 217 students enrolled this Summer 383 student enrolled in Spring 2016 LAURA: -Comparisons needed next time -Can I share this information with others? QIONA: -Is there a minority breakdown? -There is a correlation of ages who are homeless that is increasing at a rapid rate Homeless waiver reduces risk of going homeless again -Scholarships are offered through the Foundation and private donors BELINTHIA: -Is there employee deduction for scholarships? -Please send Ways You Can Help in electronic form Yes Yes -We can collaborate with Teresa Dimmer to obtain the success rate of minorities -Will research the number of year old students in program MARY: -Send Ways You Can Help brochure in pdf format

5 NIKKI: -Suggestion to hold annual leadership conference with all WOW campuses to bring all students together to network Open Items Student Profiles (cont.) -Students would embrace a sisterhood as we don t have sororities with team building activities, breakout sessions BELINTHIA/MISTY: -Will schedule a meeting to begin to plan leadership conference Adjournment -Invited Advisory Committee on tour of the new Women s Residence at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic -CASA would like us to tour their new facility Meeting adjourned at 11:25 AM -To Shirley with potential dates Shirley will set up CASA tour -Next meeting September 16, 2016 at Seminole -Tour of Midtown Keene Center
