2 BY THE NUMBERS The mission of Children s Hospital of Philadelphia goes beyond our own walls to improve the health and well-being of children in the community. Here are some examples of how we help. Hansel and his mother in South Philadelphia ACCESS TO CARE & NAVIGATING THE HEALTH SYSTEM 560 patients and families helped by Family Health Coverage Program to enroll in Medicaid and CHIP 78 new refugee children evaluated by our Refugee Health Program, which also conducted 148 follow-up visits Medicaid Coverage 73% inpatient/observation patients from Philadelphia County covered by Medicaid

3 200 children received free medical and dental care at CHOP Night clinics through the Homeless Health Initiative (HHI) Carter and his mother at an HHI clinic 30 medical interpreters on staff providing Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin and American Sign Language interpretation for patient families 100,000+ interpreting encounters, in-person or over the phone, for CHOP patient families ACCESS TO BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES 120 children enrolled in intensive emotional and behavioral health programs in our Mays Landing Specialty Care Center 5,000+ youth screened for risk of suicide in the Emergency Department 136 children received in-school group behavioral health counseling from 20 CHOP-trained school counselors and social workers

4 HEALTH EDUCATION CHOP focuses on keeping children healthy by providing health-related information in person, over the phone and on the web. 92,000 calls received at the CHOP-staffed Poison Control Center 12.2 million views of health information content on chop.edu, and 1 million views of CHOP s clinical pathways web pages, which offer best practices for treating 120+ medical conditions and emergencies 300 residents in HHI partner shelters attended 35 health education sessions that covered a variety of health and wellness topics 110 adolescents with chronic conditions and 210 parents attended REACH sessions, helping them prepare for college and adulthood

5 VIOLENCE PREVENTION INITIATIVE 130,000+ children touched by VPI through screening, bullying prevention education, counseling and other support 7,200 screenings in the CHOP ED for intimate partner violence; 212 families identified and referred to services 900 students participated in PRAISE, our schoolbased bullying prevention program 1,600 children saw Free2B, our multimedia bullying prevention film Dee Dee is one of 120 clients served by the Violence Intervention Program, which provides post-injury support to families.

6 CHRONIC CONDITIONS CHOP s community programs prioritize helping families manage chronic conditions like asthma and prevent lifelong problems like obesity children and their mothers participated in Operation CHOICES fitness and nutrition classes offered by HHI in three homeless shelters for mothers with children 1,621 visits by Community Asthma Prevention Program (CAPP) to homes 58% reduction in asthma-related emergency room visits as a result of CAPP interventions 60 children and families learned about healthy cooking through Healthy Weight Program-led and Vetri Cooking Lab cooking classes 1,000 pounds of food from The Garden at Karabots produced and donated to promote healthy eating

7 ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE SERVICES 265 Youth in the Philadelphia Detention Center received HIV prevention education, HIV testing and counseling from the Adolescent Initiative 491 Teens sought reproductive health services at the CHOP-sponsored clinic at West Philadelphia High School 1,000 Philadelphia teens tested for HIV through the annual Hip Hop for Philly concert 4,029 Teen reproductive health visits at CHOP s Karabots and Cobbs Creek locations and Covenant House 110+ CHOP Cares Community Grants awarded since 2013 that support Hospital employees when they volunteer for community projects in New Jersey and Pennsylvania 2017 (29) 2016 (34) 2013 (8) COMMUNITY GRANTS 2014 (22) 2015 (19)
