2 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISING 1. SET YOUR FUNDRAISING GOAL We recommend a minimum of 100 and reward for hitting goals starting at GET EXCITED AND HAVE FUN The more excited and committed you are about fundraising for the Romp, the more excitement you will generate amongst your support network. Remember that even the most successful fundraisers hear the word no repeatedly; they are successful simply because they keep on going when the going gets tough. Keep going! Only together can we save lives and end breast cancer forever! 3. POSSIBLE DONORS/SUPPORTERS Simply write out a list of everyone you know. You may be asking yourself Everyone?! Yes, everyone. Once you start jotting names down it will be much easier than expected. Start with friends, family, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, fellow volunteers, etc. Go ahead, grab a piece of paper and start making a list. Allow this list to serve as your list of potential donors. You may be thinking that specific people on your list may not donate, but you never know who has a connection to the cause, without asking. So, don t be shy to ask everyone you know to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure s vision of a world without breast cancer! 4. YOUR PERSONAL PAGE & PARTICIPANT CENTER Consider your Participant Center your personal headquarters for online fundraising. Login to your Participant Center and personalize the look and feel of your Personal Page. Add photos, video and your personal story about why you have decided to fundraise for Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the Romp to Stomp. Your Personal Page online fundraising page will appear to supporters when they search for you by name, team name or click through links in your s send from your Participant Center. 5. SEND COMPELLING S AND LETTERS REQUESTING SUPPORT Simply and quickly send s requesting donations and support with our pre-written s available in your Participant Center. Add a personal touch to the template s or craft a heartfelt with your personal story and reasons for fundraising for Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the Romp to Stomp. 6. OFFLINE DONATIONS (CHECKS & CASH) Flip through the Collecting Donations section of this guide to learn how to quickly and easily collect online donations through your Participant Center as well as offline donations such as checks and cash. 7. SHARE YOUR EXCITEMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA Don t have s and addresses for ALL of your friends? Let them know on Facebook, Twitter and your blog how excited you are to be raising funds and awareness for the Romp to Stomp and Susan G. Komen for the Cure! 8. FOLLOW UP Loop back with friends and family that you have sent letters and s to. Most of them had probably intended to support you and may have simply forgotten. A quick, friendly reminder may be all they need! 2 ROMP TO STOMP

Remind them that only TOGETHER can we create a world without breast cancer! 10. HOST A FUNDRAISING EVENT Consider hosting a simple and fun fundraising party for family and friends. Ask for donations at the door, for special beverages or give a short toast including why you are fundraising and where the dollars go, followed by an opportunity to support your efforts with a donation. The Romp to Stomp team is busy searching for the perfect prizes to reward you for your fundraising efforts. Check the Romp to Stomp website for the latest details! Follow us on Facebook and be one of the first to know! FUNDRAISING CHECKLIST Set your fundraising goal (Aim high!) Get excited and have fun Make a list of possible supporters Jazz up your Personal Page in your Participant Center Send s to friends and family asking for their support Send letters via the mail to friends and family asking for their support Download the Offline Donation Form (and get ready for the checks to roll in) Share with friends on Facebook, Twitter and on your blog that you signed up for the Tubbs Romp to Stomp Follow Up Send thank you s and notes to your supporters (make sure you tell them how close you are to reaching your goal) Reach your fundraising goal, check out cool fundraising rewards and send another round of thanks to supporters letting them know together you reached your goal! 4 COLLECTING DONATIONS ONLINE FUNDRAISING ONLINE FUNDRAISING = Supporters donate online through your Personal Page, located on the Romp to Stomp website. OFFLINE FUNDRAISING OFFLINE FUNDRAISING = Supporters give YOU checks and cash for YOU to log within your Participant Center and then submit with an Offline Donations Submission Form. Perks to Fundraising Online: Your Participant Center and Personal Pages will play a vital role in the success of your fundraising. The Participant Center offers several great tools to quickly and easily connect with friends and family as well as keep track of your fundraising progress. Most participants who utilize the online fundraising tools are surprised just how easy it is to use and meet their fundraising goals (plus it helps cut down on costs associated with our staff s data entry)! Check out your Participant Center and expierence how to easily use online fundraising to your advantage! I Have Been Given Checks or Cash Donations. Now What? Print out the Offline Donation Form (available on page 9 of guidebook) and follow the instructions. 1. Fill out form with fundraiser, donor and donation info 2. Record offline donations in your online Participant Center 3. Submit Offline Donations with Form one of three ways (next page): 4 ROMP TO STOMP

Komen for the Cure with Romp [state] in the memo line. Where should donors send their checks? Checks should be written out to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and sent to YOU (see example check). Once checks are sent to you, you will submit them by mail with an Offline Donation Submission Form or submit them at Priority Check-In** or event day (also with the form). If they send them directly to the Romp, we can not gaurentee that they may not credit your fundraising efforts, so be sure to remind friends to send them to you! Got More Questions? Visit it s chock full of tips, info and answers to frequently asked questions. Keep track of your offline donations by inputting them into your online Participant Center. Recording your offline donations in the online system is easy and helps us cut down on costs associated with data entry. Fill out the Offline Donation Submission Form before submitting donations at Priority Check-In or on event day. Remember to indicate on the Offline Donation Submission Form whether or not you recorded the offline donation in your Participant Center. *Mail-in donations must be received by the offline fundraising deadline (see Offline Donation Submission Form for deadlines} in order to count towards fundraising totals and incentive prizes. If you re unsure you or your donor will make the deadline, wait to submit them at Priority Check-In or on event day.. **some exclusions may apply for Colorado Romp; see for details ROMP TO STOMP 5

6 FEATURE FUNDRAISER Story By: Jill Overdorf Colorado Romp to Stomp Fundraising Superstar How I convinced family and friends to give over 6 ROMP TO STOMP

7 One of the fundamental principles in my life is to give back. This phrase has a different meaning for every one of us and for me it means to contribute in whatever way I can to causes that are important to me. I have volunteered with elders and animals since I was a child and I donate blood almost every ten weeks. These are areas where I can be a positive factor without dedicating finances. I chose the Tubbs Romp to Stomp Series as one of my causes during its inaugural year because the recipient of the funds was important to me as a woman and as one who had people in her life affected by breast cancer. Additionally, it was a great reason to train in the winter and switch up my exercise regime to snowshoeing! By mobilizing and rallying my friends both financially and physically, I have made the commitment to participate and be a dedicated supporter since In the past nine years, I have confirmed a thing or two about grassroots fundraising. The biggest lesson for me is that it truly works and becomes more successful with sustained efforts. As with anything in one s life there are a few key tenets that will assure success: GOALSETTING, PERSONAL COMMITMENT, ORGANIZATION, CONSISTENCY and a little known secret THANKSGIVING and GRATITUDE. Subscribe to these five things, a successful fundraising campaign will unfold almost effortlessly. Goalsetting is an incredibly important first step and something that only you can determine. What physical and monetary targets are you willing to commit to personally to make this an attainable and satisfying endeavor? My first year, I set a modest fundraising goal of ; my physical goal was to finish a 10K snowshoe. I had the good fortune of accomplishing both with resounding success I raised more than 1100 with the help of family and friends and in addition to the Colorado Romp to Stomp, I participated in three 10K snowshoe events. I had never snowshoed before the winter of 2003! BE TRUE TO YOURSELF AND COMMIT FULLY TO THE EVENT, both financially and physically. Enlist the aid of family and friends to support you and participate with you and believe that what you are about to undertake is possible unequivocally. 8 Start the fundraising process early enough to inform your friends that you are participating giving them time to accommodate tardysnail mail and slow computer servers to help you reach your goal. BE CONSISTENT IN YOUR REQUESTS! Start early in the process and tell your potential donors the story of your quest; stay true to this story as you share your updates and training information will be the tenth year that I support the Romp to Stomp Series, I notify my donors earlier each year and it helps add to the final tally. In January, I register at least two months before the event and personalize by fundraising webpage. Once this is complete, I send out an to remind my donor team of my intent to participate. I send an every two weeks to encourage potential donors. There is one final touch to my ongoing campaign: I m a little corny and I mail ST. VALENTINE S CARDS every year. This has proven to be the perfect foil for my fundraising efforts because the Colorado event is a month after the holiday. In each card, there is a letter from me with a request to financially participate in meeting my year s Romp to Stomp goal. I include the website to make an online donation and forms to fill out with address, and donation amount along with a stamped selfaddressed envelope! My mailing list now exceeds 250 friends and family and this has yielded great results. This is my cause of choice and the only charity for which I have chosen to raise money. It is easy for donors to contribute because the request is repeated and the results are emphasized each year! for research and other needs. Your team of donors didn t have to open their wallets or write a check, but they did be appreciative! The list of donors that you created because you are organized will help you to thank all who contributed to your day s total and the overall success of the event and the Romp to Stomp Series. In your final communiqué to your donors, include the final total that they helped you to raise and the total that was raised by all the participants at the event. By including your donors in the sharing of this information, it becomes clearer that we can all contribute and give back in a number of ways. Good luck with fundraising, have fun with the process and see you out on the trails! The fourth crucial ingredient in fundraising success is ORGANIZATION. An easy way to start organizing your donor campaign is to make a list of all the friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances who you are comfortable asking for donations; divide your donation goal amount (that goal you set in step one) by the number of people on this list. The sum that you reveal is a great answer when friends ask, How much should I donate? For my fundraising efforts, I have created a spreadsheet with names, addresses, s and amount donated each year, this is an invaluable tool for me as it instantly creates a data bank for the next years fundraising. When you send out s to your friends soliciting donations, be sure to do two things: put all of the s in the BCC (or blindcopy) line and remove the donor s name from the next round of s when they make their 1000 contribution! Keep a list of who has donated to your fund so they don t continue to receive your requests and will instead receive a confirmation of their gift. Finally, REMEMBER TO THANK YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY for donating to your fundraising efforts. There are a number of wonderful organizations that use athletic events to raise funds 8 ROMP TO STOMP
