Yavapai College Honors Program

What is the YC Honors Program The College Honors Program is an intense, strategically designed program created to foster confident and empowered scholars.

How do we do this? With seminars, which challenge and develop students critical thinking Enrichment activities, which broaden the students perspective

Who are CHP Students? The Best of the Best: Incoming freshman and continuing students, selected from all degree and transfer programs Cumulative GPA above a 3.5 Degree/program completers Critical thinkers Motivated scholars looking for a rigorous challenge Dedicated to serving in the community

Students Moving On Gaurav Borah-Arizona State University- Computer Science Rysen Barnett- Grand Canyon University- Business/Marketing Katie Kasten- Northern Arizona University- Business David Campbell- Arizona State University- Law/Philosophy Colleen Sullivan- Arizona State University- Psychology Vanessa Corpuz- Arizona State University- Communications

Colleen Sullivan I started dancing at the young age of three. Dancing helps me express my feelings through movement and song. Psychology and Dancing are my majors.

Lauren Sherwood I am a musician and plan on majoring in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. This career interests me because the ear is cool and communication is key. Plus, I consider myself a people person. Music has taught me that there is always room for improvement and to keep on moving forward.

Caleb Boone "I have always had a fascination for building. To see the growth of something over time, to be the impetus behind its achievements and success, brings me more joy than much else in this world.

Coalition for Compassion & Justice Partnership Warm for Winter Toy Drive Canstruction

Warm For Winter Clothes are collected in the community and on a Saturday any family with a need can go to the United Methodist Church in Prescott and try on jackets, gloves, socks, and hats to keep.

Warm For Winter The Yavapai College Honor's Program decided to help with this event by collecting clothes. We collected 21 very full black trash bags of clothing from students and faculty at Yavapai College. We were able to help the CCJ sort the clothes into sizes and help the families find clothes that fit them. We helped serve 364 people on the day of the event. The left over clothes were given to people who came to the CCJ's soup kitchen. Overall over 500 people were given clothes to keep them warm during the winter.

Warm For Winter

We were able to give Coalition for Compassion and Justice 220 toys to give to kids. Toy Drive

Canstruction Canstruction is a canned food drive that will take place between the 15th and the 25th, ending in a large, final event on the 27th. The Honors Program and the Yavapai College faculty collaborated with the Coalition for Compassion and Justice to help make this event a success. We realize that the food bank usually doesn't receive donations throughout the year beyond the holiday season, and so we found it important to remind the community that helping the less fortunate should be a year round effort.

Clubs for Students in the Community The honors program has partnered up with local high schools and middle schools to create clubs that can help students become great leaders and at the same time helping the community. Peer Assistant Leadership (PAL) Teens Taking Action (TTA) Girl Talk

PAL s (Peer Assistant Leadership) PAL s specifically builds resiliency and resources through youth leadership training, mentoring, conflict resolution, crossage teaching, peer helping, service learning, and community prevention activities PALs helped me step out of my comfort zone and reach out to my family, friends, peers and community, in a way that has truly changed my life for the better. Jacqueline Licavoli (Four Year PALs member)

TTA (Teens Taking Action) Teens Taking Action is after school program and is dedicated to energizing the youth of the Prescott area with purpose and power. This year alone Mile High students have put together an anti-bullying campaign, and Honors Students making crafts with the Mile High

Girl Talk Girl Talk is a mentoring program specifically targeted at middle school aged girls. Members of the CHP have spent time each week with these girls at local schools helping them it any way necessary. These girls face many struggles both internally and externally, our mentors help them transition through this time in their lives.

Yavapalooza Yavapalooza is a welcome back event that aids students in getting connected with the college and community to enhance their college experience. There was roughly 374 people that attended the first annual Yavapalooza

Lake Water Management The Honors Program members were involved in local issues and concerns in October. Three members gave a presentation on a proposal on lake water conditions and how it can be improved.

Holiday Ball 167 people came to our Holiday Ball We sold roughly 14 tables We raised roughly $4500
