Our Foreword Mission Our organisation has existed for around 350 years. The trust that we have built over those years has been hard won and we must not lose sight of meeting the needs of people we support. It s these stakeholders who have given us a licence to operate and what makes us a sustainable business. All of our activities are based on the aspiration to be the world s most trusted financial group. To reach this goal, we work closely with the communities, people, and environment in which our business operates. MUFG prides itself on providing the best service possible to its clients, and we take pride in our approach to supporting our local communities too. We take our obligation of being a responsible business very seriously and this is exemplified through our CSR programme that supports the communities in which our business operates. As a global financial institution we are ideally placed to enhance the financial education and the employability of the next generation of young people, and the preservation and enhancement of the environment we live in. In EMEA our CSR programme is active in 14 countries. Fundamental to our CSR programme are MUFG s CSR ambassadors, our champions who embody our values of integrity and responsibility, professionalism and teamwork, and challenging ourselves to grow. The commitment from our colleagues, and the investments we have made with local partners, allow us to maximise the positive social and environmental impact in communities across the region. This is a continuous effort and we are committed to building on and deepening the trust we have with our local communities. Masahiro Kuwahara Chief Executive Officer Core Banking Unit in EMEA David King Chief Executive Officer Securities Business in EMEA Young People It is important to MUFG to equip the next generation of young people with the skills and knowledge required to gain and sustain employment, generate wealth and create jobs. Our CSR programme works in partnership with charities, community groups and other corporates to achieve this goal. By focusing on young people from our local communities we can deliver targeted financial education, employability and enterprise skills training. Delivered at an important time in a young person s life, we believe that by sharing the relevant skills and knowledge, we will develop a positive foundation for young people, sustaining them both in their future careers and their life outside work. Environment MUFG has taken strides in its long-standing commitment to environmental preservation in the community. From winning awards for sustainable business practices to regular team challenges in parks and playgrounds with local environmental organisations, we are dedicated to ensuring that the necessary steps are taken to create a more sustainable planet. 4 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

Our Champions Our champions go above and beyond their normal roles to support our CSR programme. They are central to our success and are our ambassadors across EMEA. They lead the coordination of CSR activities and provide support with recruiting volunteers for events as well as promoting the work we deliver. We are proud to feature some of the work our champions have delivered and give an insight into why they are so passionate and motivated to give back: 42,000 RAISED BY EMEA STAFF TO SUPPORT SAVE THE CHILDREN S SYRIAN APPEAL Daria Belyakova Head of HR, Moscow Being a CSR champion is an exciting part of my work at MUFG. Together with other colleagues we regularly try to benefit our local community through fundraising and organising events for disadvantaged young people, from activities in local schools to supporting children with cerebral palsy. Tony Macpherson Vice President, Information and Data Management, London I became involved with CSR because I believe it is important for businesses to connect with their local communities and to make a tangible contribution to society. I have been helping run the MUFG Code Club which aims to get children started in writing code for computers. Each week, volunteers from MUFG provide assistance and encouragement to a group of 10-year olds at a local primary school and it is a hugely rewarding experience. Traditionally, many people are nervous about coding and imagine that it s something they aren t able to do. But kids today are really at ease with computers and technology, so it s wonderful to see them picking it up so quickly. We were motivated to raise money for Save the Children s Syrian Appeal by the horrific pictures of Syrian children caught up in conflict. We are proud to have raised 42,000 for a very worthwhile cause and to have been a part of the most successful employee-led CSR project in EMEA. Being a CSR Champion is important to me, it is essential we continue to build on the progress that MUFG has already made in this space. Rufus Parsons Commodity & Structured Trade Finance, London 6 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

Our charity partners are essential to the work we do. Embedded within communities, they are able to identify the needs of local people and provide opportunities for MUFG to get involved and support. We d like to share some of the work our charity partners have been able to do in our communities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Junior Achievement Junior Achievement (JA) Europe is part of a global federation and is Europe s largest provider of high quality education programmes in enterprise, entrepreneurship, business and economics programmes. Targeted at young people in primary and secondary schools and early university, a key success factor of JA s programmes is the active participation of business volunteers. Our Partners 14 JA aims is to build the skills of young people through exposing them to business and the people who work for them; raising their aspirations while also developing a better understanding of the role of business in society and how volunteering can support the local community. MUFG s partnership with JA began in 2013, supporting mainly financial literacy and entrepreneurship education programmes. The EMEAwide initiative has been running successfully in 14 locations across Europe the Middle East and Africa. Our partnership connects education providers and our businesses at a community level; providing students with an experience to engage with professionals at MUFG. Over the current academic year our partnership has reached around 730 students through 50 volunteers. LOCATIONS ACROSS EUROPE THE MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA 730 STUDENTS REACHED THROUGH 50 VOLUNTEERS 8 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

MyBnk IN ITS FIRST 6 MONTHS THE PARTNERSHIP HAS RESULTED IN MyBnk, the award winning financial education charity, offer the highestrated money skills programme for young people in the UK. Since we began our partnership with MyBnk, the overall impact of the programmes they have delivered has seen a 40% increase in understanding of credit, interest rates and inflation, an 18% rise in positive attitudes towards money and a 25% jump in skills from the young people who have participated in their training sessions. The partnership has been able to reach and support diverse groups of young people, especially those who are most vulnerable. 7 BIG Alliance The BIG Alliance is a charity that builds connections between businesses and the community in Islington. It aims to create a positive impact by brokering relationships between corporates and grassroots community organisations. I decided to sign up to the MUFG mentoring programme because I believed it would be an amazing opportunity to learn from professionals and get their point of view on the wider world. I felt I could speak openly and freely and I always felt I was having an adultto-adult conversation and not patronised for being a student. The programme has taught me important life skills that I will carry through my future and hope to incorporate into my everyday life. Confidence to be able to speak in front of large groups; organisational skills to be fully equipped for any life situation that I may come across and I now have greater self-awareness thanks to the programme. I, for one, will definitely recommend this programme to whoever I meet. Grace Whaley, student of Holloway School Islington, the local community of our EMEA Headquarters in London, is often perceived as a place of affluence and status. While this is true of some communities in the borough, there exists an underbelly of poverty and deprivation in large areas. The BIG Alliance was created by the East London Business Alliance in 2012 to specifically address the social and environmental issues affecting Islington. MUFG was one of the first corporates to support and work with BIG Alliance since its launch in This began with supporting MUFG to broker relationships with community organisations and schools in Islington that could make use of the skills and experience of our colleagues in volunteering activities. Since then BIG Alliance has facilitated our mentoring programme which has allowed us to mentor over 100 students from our partner schools, supporting students to think about their future careers and education. In addition to this, our partnership with BIG Alliance has supported MUFG to fulfil its obligation to the environment. Islington has the fewest green spaces in the country, presenting an opportunity for MUFG to help in the regeneration of these areas for the communities to benefit from. 17 TEAM CHALLENGES ORGANISED TO SUPPORT ISLINGTON S VERY FEW GREEN SPACES 1.4K+ HOURS CONTRIBUTED TO VARIOUS ORGANISATIONS 260 VOLUNTEERS FOR THE BIG ALLIANCE IN 2016, OUR LONDON OFFICE 500 HOURS CONTRIBUTED HOURS IN MENTORING YOUNG PEOPLE FROM OUR TWO SCHOOL PARTNERS 6.4K YOUNG PEOPLE POSITIVELY IMPACTED IN ISLINGTON 12 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

Working Chance Down Madrid Working Chance is an award-winning charity and the UK s only specialist recruitment consultancy for women with criminal convictions and young women leaving the care system. The charity works with women who have been in contact with the criminal justice system within the last three years, and women aged who may or may not have a criminal conviction, but have been in care. MUFG supports Working Chance by providing skilled volunteers for the charity s employability programme. Volunteers share their work experiences, hints and tips for developing their careers and provide feedback on the women s CVs. 1.3K JOB PLACEMENTS SINCE 2007 The success of Working Chance can be seen in the fact that 83% of the women they place into work are still in the same role six months later, in contrast to the 48% of women released from prison in the UK who are reconvicted within a year. Founded in 1989, Down Madrid is a charity in Spain that aims to defend the rights and dignity of people suffering from Down s syndrome and other disabilities. The charity s mission is to promote, develop and reinforce activities that help its members achieve better family, school and professional lives as well as accomplish social integration, improving their quality of life as a result. A large challenge that these women face is the stigma of being an ex-offender and being able to reveal their past to potential employers. By providing interview practice in a safe environment, our volunteers support these women in building their capacity and confidence, and many have found that their own perceptions of ex-offenders had changed positively. 83% OF WOMEN PLACED ARE STILL IN THE SAME ROLES SIX MONTHS LATER 760 UNIQUE WOMEN PLACED INTO PAID EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTARY/WORK EXPERIENCE ROLES Since 2007, Working Chance has made over 1,300 job placements and placed over 760 unique women into paid employment and voluntary/work experience roles, which are crucial stepping stones into paid work for many of the women they support. MUFG s partnership with Down Madrid began in 2016, and colleagues from our Madrid branch have since taken part in a wide array of activities to help promote social integration with the young people that Down Madrid supports. Many of the sessions revolve around MUFG s strategy of supporting young people with financial education and employability. 14 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

L Amico Charly Johannesburg Hospital School L Amico Charly is a non-profit organisation founded in Milan in 2001 by the Colombo family following the suicide of their adolescent son Charly. L Amico Charly aims to support young people who could be at risk of suicide in three stages. The first stage is dedicated to prevention, where the organisation opens its youth centre to young people and offers wide-ranging activities from homework clubs to music sessions. The second stage is for managing imminent suicide risks and the third stage is aftercare. The Johannesburg Hospital School dates back to 1923, when a group of volunteers visiting sick children in the wards recognised a need for these children to continue their education. It became an official institution in 1960, and is now the Autism Resource Centre for the Gauteng Department of Education. The hospital currently supports 388 young people aged MUFG began working with the organisation in 2016 on its vegetable garden project. Colleagues in Johannesburg worked with the school to regenerate the garden from consulting a seed fertiliser company to repairing and replacing the water tank and irrigation system. Our colleagues visit the school regularly and work alongside the students to maintain and plant vegetables. As well as being an environmental project, this initiative is unique as another of its aims is to support the young people s development, confidence and sense of responsibility. As the vegetables grow, they can start selling their produce, or add value by making food from the vegetables which can then be shared with the rest of the school. 388 YOUNG PEOPLE CURRENTLY SUPPORTED BY THE HOSPITAL The skills provided equip the students for when then they leave school and allow them to have increased job opportunities. Studies show that individuals with autism participating in supported employment tend to have a better quality of life, with reduced symptoms and increased cognitive functioning. MUFG formed a partnership with L Amico Charly in 2015 to deliver the first stage of support by sending volunteers to assist and facilitate sessions for young people to take part in. Our colleagues have participated in various activities such as officiating football tournaments and maintaining the youth centre. The branch has also been proactive in facilitating sessions for the young people at L Amico Charly, including a session with a local archery organisation to introduce the unique sport, and a financial education workshop where they taught young people about foreign exchange and the differences between Japanese and Italian economies. 16 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

North London Cares Little Havens Hospice North London Cares (NLC) is a community network of young professionals and older neighbours offering one another a little extra time, practical help, social connection and human companionship. The charity operates at the intersection of the public, private and community sectors to tackle the growing problem of isolation and loneliness in London, bringing people together across long-standing social and generational divides. HELP FUND FUEL GRANTS THEY GIVE TO OLDER NEIGHBOURS DURING THEIR WINTER WELLBEING PROJECT* AND ENABLE THE CHARITY TO REACH AND SUPPORT MORE OLDER NEIGHBOURS * From December 2015 to February 2016 Through their dynamic programmes, NLC help to improve the confidence, resilience, skills and connections of all participants so that the old and young can better navigate a rapidly changing modern world. HELP NLC EXPAND, DEEPEN AND BE MORE CREATIVE WITH THEIR 355 SOCIAL CLUBS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR Since establishing a two-year partnership with North London Cares in September 2015, MUFG s investment has enabled the charity to: PROVIDE THEIR LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR MATCHES (APPROXIMATELY 50) WITH A BUDGET TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY Little Havens Hospice is an organisation that offers comprehensive care to children with terminal illnesses. The specialist care is free within the family home and at the hospice. The experienced children s nurses care for the child s medical requirements, as well as meeting their educational and social needs. Studies have shown that a child s mental and physical development will be stimulated through academic activities, play, music or complementary therapies. The Baton of Life event began in 2012 in memory of an MUFG employee who passed away and MUFG has continued to sponsor the 5k fun run every year since. Through our sponsorship and employee fundraising, donations have reached 112,385 to date which has allowed Little Haven s Hospice to build and carry on its work with young people - offering respite and care for children at the end of their lives. In 2014, as part of MUFG s graduate programme, the graduates took part in a challenge to raise funds for Little Havens; the team had to raise as much funding as possible within 24 hours. As part of this challenge, they visited Little Havens and took over a group of the charity shops, increasing the takings and raising awareness. MUFG employees have also volunteered in the gardens, a space very important to the patients and families. 112,385 RAISED SINCE CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

Global Volunteer Run In The Dark In November 2016, colleagues participated in what became MUFG s largest employee-led CSR activity to date. 143 colleagues took part in a 5km run to raise money for Syrian children affected by the war and altogether raised over 42,000, with donations coming from Tokyo, Istanbul, Dubai and New York. Co-organiser Rufus Parsons explained his motivation behind the event: 143 COLLEAGUES TOOK PART IN THE RUN IN THE DARK EVENT Month MUFG globally encourages its staff to give back to its communities. This is given even more focus every November during our Global Volunteer Month a month that provides additional opportunities to get involved in volunteering and charitable activities. From late night marathons raising much needed funds for children to recycling competitions, there are plenty of ways for our employees to get involved. In 2016, we had a combined 57 events across EMEA, with over 1,100 colleagues getting involved! 57 EVENTS ACROSS EMEA 1.1K COLLEAGUES GOT INVOLVED The horrific pictures in the press inspired us to organise this campaign. We wanted to focus on children as they are the most helpless and kids are our future. 5 KILOMETRE RUN TO RAISE MONEY FOR SYRIAN CHILDREN IN NEED 42K RAISED COMING FROM TOKYO, ISTANBUL, DUBAI AND NEW YORK 20 CSR in EMEA Annual Report 2016 CSR in EMEA Annual Report

Dinner with Refugees Colleagues from the Amsterdam office responded to the rise in the number of refugees in the city by working with a local charity to host a dinner to welcome them to the city. It was a chance for our colleagues to meet people from a completely different environment and background, and for the refugees a chance to learn about MUFG and the different roles within the bank. It was an evening of learning about new cultures; they enjoyed delicious African and Middle- eastern dishes and even danced after dinner. Our Performance Beat the Chiefs Several members of our senior management team volunteered for an indoor triathlon at the EMEA Headquarters to raise money for North London Cares and MyBnk. 60 colleagues, 20 teams, took part in the competition and recorded some recordbreaking times! Archery with L Amico Charly Our Milan colleagues created and facilitated a unique workshop with L Amico Charly that introduced young people to archery. The groups of young people expanded their networks and competed against MUFG staff to win the competition. 5K+ HOURS VOLUNTEERED THROUGHOUT THE REGION 9K+ YOUNG PEOPLE IMPACTED THROUGHOUT EMEA 15K+ VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN VOLUNTEERING EVENTS 51% PARTICIPATION RATE ACROSS EMEA IN K+ RAISED THROUGH VARIOUS FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES 89% OF EMEA COLLEAGUES BELIEVE THAT MUFG IS SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE IN THE COMMUNITY Warsaw Independence Run Our colleagues in Warsaw took part in a sponsored run to celebrate Polish independence in November. Joined by 13,000 participants, the team ran through the capital to promote healthy lifestyles amongst the youth in Poland, and raised more than 6,000 for the Education Through Sport Foundation. I am proud to say that our CSR programme has broken records year-on-year to become MUFG s highest performing region for colleague participation. The figures show that we are being a responsible business, taking us towards our vision of becoming the world s most trusted financial group. More importantly, I am proud of the positive impact we ve had in communities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa and I d like to thank our CSR committee and champions for driving this within the organisation.
