Membership Numbers for January 2012 Due to the changes in membership and the fact that Member Services are still working to clean up the database, they have yet determined the best way to report membership numbers. 2 Chapter Membership Lists Attention Chapter Presidents and Secretaries During the period of membership renewals there are several things you should be aware of regarding the accessing of your Chapter Membership Lists. As of this time, group membership numbers are not reflected in the membership lists. The drops from the membership lists will occur in March. Members who have not renewed as of yet are listed as expired. If you need to get a list of your chapter membership you will need to run both the all members list and the expired members list. The reason for this is that all expiration dates are listed as 12/31/11 so after that time anyone who has not renewed is listed as expired. If you have any questions or problems, please contact your MSCS chapter liaison, we will be glad to assist you. Special Request RPL CANIDATES NEED CHAPTER HELP This is a reminder to Chapters that RPL candidates work for a year to receive their RPL designation. During this period of time they take courses from the American Management Association (Communicate with Authority, Build and Mange high-performance Teams, Break Down the Barriers to solid Interpersonal Negotiations, Enhance Team Performance, Lead with Confidence and Integrity) and then This skill set learned for the betterment of our association and public safety profession. Part of the class deals with APCO History (Chapter 6) and it is here were the RPL candidates need the help of Chapter Officers and Chapter Members. They have specific areas and questions to which they need information on their Chapter. Please remember to take the time to assist them with this assignment. Consider this your contribution to mentoring the leaders of the future for our profession. What s Next for Public Safety Technology? Of course we will still have our dancing, karaoke, and a great dinner on the night of the 11 th. We will end the event with a great super session taught by Jimmy Lamb from Protec. I hope to see everyone attend and take advantage of this low cost, high quality training. Don t worry about travelling home on the 11 th. We have negotiated a great rate with the host hotel. Call for Papers (Download now in PDF format) NC NENA/APCO 2012 ANNUAL CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS The NC Chapters of NENA and APCO are proud to host the 2012 Annual State Conference, September 9-12, 2012 at Sheraton Hotel at Atlantic Beach, NC. This conference is an educational and networking event for all public safety professionals to explore the most critical issues affecting the industry. This Call for Papers invites NENA and APCO members, industry associates, business professionals and educators to submit a written proposal for development into an educational program, workshop, or panel discussion at the 2012 conference. Watch for future announcements with more details. Did you miss out? Make sure you make it a priority for 2012! Need Money for Training? $68,250 was awarded last year to 112 applicants! LAST CALL Call for Applicants: Beginning January 1 through March 31, 2012 the APCO Institute will accept applications for CAC/Silent Key Scholarships. These scholarships are available to qualified applicants who desire to continue their education in the field of public safety communications. Scholarships awards can be applied to all APCO Institute courses, APCO Virtual College (Jacksonville University) and attendance to an APCO International educational event such as the Annual Conference in Minneapolis (up to $500). Please help spread the word to the Chapters in your region. APCO has two general scholarship funds: Silent Key and the Commercial Advisory Council (CAC). Silent Key was created to remember and honor individuals who have close ties to APCO through charitable donations. CAC funds come from our corporate sponsors who generously support the public safety community. What do you need to do? Pg 5 of 9

Here are some quick points to remember: Scholarships are available to all APCO members so if you are not a member, join today! You have one year to enroll in classes and/or use your scholarship money Agency information is required however, scholarship money is paid directly to the member, not the agency You must submit your application by March 31 If you would like to discuss scholarships, contact your representative on the Member & Chapter Services Committee or the Institute Advisory Committee. You may also contact the APCO Institute staff. APCO-International Public-Safety Communications Award Program Just a quick reminder that APCO International presents awards to public safety communications personnel who have demonstrated the highest levels of personal and professional conduct and performance in the line of duty. The nominations are now open for these National APCO Public Safety Awards. There are many people who qualify and deserve this recognition along with the VIP treatment and fully paid trip to the APCO 2012 International Conference in Minneapolis, MN. this coming August. But they can never be recognized unless someone submits a nomination. Do you have valuable skills and perspectives that could benefit APCO International and its volunteer groups? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, consider responding to the Call for Volunteers. You have until April 1 to do so. Once a year, APCO International invites members to apply for positions in our committees and networks. Prospective volunteers are asked to click through to the Committee Sign Up page and list their experience, knowledge, and primary areas of interest. You may select up to three committees. Selections will be made by June 30. We're looking forward to working with you!
