Laura Sparks, Energy Consultant, Assistant Treasurer and Author, gave an overview of the how the US is moving towards self-sufficiency regarding energy. She also discussed her background in the oil industry and her role in forecasting oil prices. For those of you that couldn t attend, Laura s presentation has been linked for your convenience. We gave away 8 books to our membership, which Laura personally autographed. I also downloaded the book on my Kindle and I am half way through; if I only had more time to read for entertainment, I would be finished. Our next membership meeting will be our annual joint lunch program on April 16 th with the Fort Worth AFP at the Four Seasons Resort. This will be a panel discussion of the economic impact of the HP Byron Nelson Championship. For more information, read further into the newsletter for complete details. This is a great opportunity to increase your network, since this is always our largest meeting, excluding the Big D conference. Speaking of the Big D Conference, I will be personally reaching out to those that have expressed an interest helping on this committee, so stay tuned for additional information on the conference. Lori Littlefield, Special Events Chair, is finalizing the details regarding our summer events. This year we will have a new networking event in June at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and to cap off our summer in July, the Texas Rangers vs. the New York Yankees game. We should have the networking event posted on the web site soon. As I continue to mention in our newsletters, we are in the process of converting our existing web site over to a new provider yourmembership.com. They have set up the wire frame of our site and we will start reviewing mockups of the new site shortly. Once we have the general layout complete, we will begin adding details into the newsletter. We are still targeting the end of May for our migration. For those needing a last minute recertification credits, remember, TEXPO is right around the corner beginning April at the Hilton Austin Downtown. This year TEXPO is hosted by the Austin AFP and they are working hard to make this a great conference. MacArthur Blvd Irving, TX United States Many people attend the HP Byron Nelson Golf Championship every year. It brings thousands of people to the Four Seasons Resort to get a glimpse of the PGA Tour professionals. Have you ever considered the preparation that is required to have a successful event? Did you know that the Salesmanship Club uses the proceeds to fund the charitable organization known as the Youth and Family Centers? The panel of presenters will discuss the economics of the event and the impact it brings to the City of Irving and the great DFW area, the Four Seasons Resort, its sponsor HP, and ultimately, the charity benefactor. Join us on Tuesday, April 16th for our special lunch program as sportscaster Scott Murray moderates an elite panel of speakers responsible for bringing this event together each year. Our Fort Worth chapter will join us for this special event. Networking and registration will begin at 11:00. Lunch will be served at 11:30 and the program will begin at noon. Members are free. Guests are $50. As this is a special event and costs are higher than our normal meetings, we cannot offer our first-time-free guest program. Each year ATTA provides a booth in the Exhibit Hall to provide exposure to the non-hosting associations. Volunteers? 5 Community Involvement Annette Cox, Chair Plan to Volunteer on Saturday, April 27 th. This will be our annual volunteer event working The Dallas Kidney Walk supporting the National Kidney Foundation. We ve worked with this event for a number of years and it s a lot of fun. This is an opportunity to use our cash management skills.we count the cash and help check in the walkers. This year the walk will be at Lindsley Park, 718 Tenison Memorial Dr. Dallas, Texas on the Santa Fe Trail. The walk starts at 8:00, so plan to be there by 7:30 if possible and be sure to wear your green DAFP t-shirt!! For questions, please direct them to Annette Cox at acox@tmaholdings.com. Important!! Please register on the DAFP website to let us know that you will be joining us to volunteer at the Kidney Walk on Saturday morning 4/27. Plan Ahead to Help Create a Hunger Free Community. On Saturday, October 5 th Dallas AFP members will volunteer at Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano to stock shelves, sort food items and prepare packages for recipient families. To further support Minnie s, we will hold a food drive during the Big D Treasury Conference on September 19 th and deliver our collection to Minnie s when we go there on 10/5/2013. Plan to be a part of this worthy cause to create a hunger-free community. More to Come Other volunteer events that we are trying to pull together for 2013 include: Support for low-income area schools A Wounded Warriors program Adventure Runs that support non-profit causes Dallas Children s Advocacy Center Please let us hear from you about your interest in these volunteer programs and if you would like to help us organize these events. 6 Special Events Lori Littlefield, Chair SAVE THE DATE! Monday, July 22 nd Get Ready for a great Summer Event!! DAFP will be hosting an evening at the Ranger game All You Can Eat Porch Tickets This year, our summer social event will be a family affair! Each DAFP member will be allowed a ticket plus one guest ticket, if needed. Your free guest ticket can be used for an adult or a child. Additional tickets, for family members only, will be available for purchase for $48 each at the time of registration. We only have 200 tickets. NO refunds. Tickets must be purchased for anyone taller than 36. Keep watching for updates as they become available. This will be a popular event for our registered members, so please save the date and watch for more details. Big D Conference Want to get more involved? Please let a DAFP Board member know you are interested in helping plan this educational event. This is an excellent opportunity to volunteer and meet other like-minded individuals. SAVE THE DATE!
