6 What an awesome start to 2017! Our Chapter has been busy Giving Back to our base and surrounding communities. During this first quarter, AFSA helped support the Airmen in the dorms to have a Valentine s Day bash with some food, games, and fun. We were also out picking up trash for Adopt- A-Highway, celebrating birthdays at Northeast Rehab, preparing and serving food at Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston Wounded Warrior Family Support Center for our Warriors and their families, and a few of us cleaned up our AFSA storage unit- what some fun history we found! Did you know... that our Auxiliary Chapter had won Scrapbook of the Year 2002 and 2005! The beauty of this organization are the opportunities and the people we get to meet or help out. And while we, the members are giving back, our AFSA lobbyists are defending our benefits on Capitol Hill. As members of such a great organization, each one of us are recruiters to help make our numbers stronger and bigger. I challenge each one of you to recruit a new member as we venture into the second quarter. Thank you for all that you do to make Chapter 1075 great and be blessed! We witnessed some exciting things during the 1 st quarter of 2017 that could affect AFSA s Legislative atmosphere. The 2017 defense spending bill, the Presidents FY2018 Budget Proposal, and continuous challenges facing the VA. These are just a few of the issues our legislative advocates are examining to ensure that our best interests are protected. Check out the weekly Legislative Update s to learn more about these and other issues effecting the enlisted force. To lend your voice to issues affecting or interesting to you, please visit the Advocacy Campaigns at Lastly, the Legislative Awareness Week campaign is scheduled for 1-7 October. As stated in the last newsletter, the LAW campaign is the Super Bowl for AFSA s Legislative teams. I need volunteers to help ensure our LAW is one to remember.
