1 January 2018 Omaha, Nebraska President's Message Hello Model A ers, We are ending one year and jumping into the next quickly. Ken Grigsby is actively working on the Skills, Grills & Grilles Show for next June s show. And we have a few good ideas for tours and eat outs on the table. Way to go team! Well, I thought I would tell a little holiday story to end my ramblings this year. Here it goes. Once upon a time. No, wait, that does not sound right. Let me start again. T was the Night Before X-mas and ALL through the house not a machine or tool was sounding, not even a Ford wrench. Papa in his jammies and I in my nightie went to bed just to sleep. When coming up from the driveway a familiar tone, no, not a jeep. The tires crinkled and crunched on their way, so I could see the tracks in the new fallen snow. When out on our driveway we saw under our security light, a very curious site! A bright red 1931 Model A Fordor with a lively little driver in red, (no, it wasn t Bob McKinney) and eight little reindeer, oops it was nine (don t want to forget Rudolph, the most famous reindeer of all). So, nine little reindeer in back. He jumped out of the car, and I exclaimed my insight, Well, Santa where is your sleigh? His reply astounded me when he did say I traded in my sleigh for a nice shiny upgrade, A new Model A!!! Keep Calm & Carry On, Esther Don t forget to check your odometer!! We probably didn t make it around the world this year, but we still want to keep track of our mileage. Please send your odometer readings to Dave Miller (daemiller@cox.net or call ). If you have the reading from the start of the year, please send that, too. It looks like we will be starting from scratch. The 2018 Club Roster will accompany the February newsletter. If you have not paid your dues for 2018, you need to pay them by January 29 to be included in the Roster. Late dues are $30. 1

The 2017 audit will be done prior to the meeting, starting at 1PM. Auditors will be Bob McKinney, Sue Dellinger, and Lee Hendrix. Members may attend to observe. Notify Bob if you plan to attend. NO MEETING on the Second Saturday this month! Our Banquet on January 6 takes the place of the January meeting. If you go to our regular meeting place, you will be pretty lonesome. Eat-out News What is an eat-out?? Just in case you were wondering, we plan an eat-out every month, usually on the third Thursday evening. We choose low and moderate priced restaurants around the metro area (and sometimes a little further) who will give us separate tickets because this is strictly Dutch treat. Eatingout with us is a good way to get to know other club members. Everyone is welcome, but PLEASE be sure to sign up or contact the point of contact person so we give the restaurant the right information. January Eat out: We are off to the Greek Islands on January 18 at 6:30PM Center Street Great Greek food, but also great non-greek food. Tentative future eat-outs: February: FarmHouse Café March: Jack & Mary s Funny church signs have been circulating on lists lately. If you are not lucky enough (??) to be on one of those lists, here is one for you. 2

3 Upcoming Event It s Banquet Time! Saturday, January 6 4PM Cocktails 5PM Dinner At Lo Sole Mio s Banquet Facility located at 3020 S. 32nd AVE (across the street and a little south from the main Lo Sole Mio Restaurant parking in the rear of banquet facility) This is a pre-paid event. Sorry, but the reservation deadline has past. DON T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR NAME TAG Translation: We are NOT doing take-away gifts at the Banquet this year. Instead, we are collecting voluntary contributions (of the money we would have spent on gifts). We will give that money to the Food Bank for the Heartland. If you haven t made your contribution yet, please bring it to the Banquet. Trip to the Mallory Kountze Planetarium Saturday, January 20 at 5:30PM We are off to see the stars (and more) at the planetarium in the Durham Science Center on the UNO campus. The show From Earth To The Universe is billed as being appropriate for 5th grade up to adults. Feel free to bring guests. The cost is $4 per person (cash or check only). Please come by 5:15PM so we can try to get seats together. We can park near the Science Center in lot designated on the map. Enter the UNO campus via the west entrance on Dodge ST. The full map, which you can enlarge, is here. The show will be a little over half and hour. Then, of course, those who are interested may want to find a place for a bite to eat. Location TBA. 4 Past Events December Meeting/Christmas Party We had a nice time at the December meeting. When you tell our members to bring treats and then to mingle and socialize, they are pretty good at doing just that. What s up with the pink and white balloons? We don t know. It must have been for a baby shower the next day?? 50th Anniversary of our Newsletter! The first issue of the Meadowlark newsletter was sent out in 1968 just one issue for that year. It was just two pages, as you will see on our next two pages. Don Graves Sr. typed this newsletter and copied it on a mimeograph machine in the basement of the family home where Jeff Graves now lives. We think the typewriter and the machine are still there. Most of the names in this 50 year old newsletter won t be familiar to most members but it is interesting to read what they were doing. It took a 6 cents stamp to send out this newsletter, but then dues were only $2 for the local club and $5 for the national club. 4

7 I would like to send my best wishes for a successful 2018 to the Meadowlark Model A Ford Club in Omaha, Nebraska. Are you planning to go to a 2018 meet in Missouri? Keep your eyes peeled the registration packets typically come out in January. Two choices in June 2018: June 24, 2018 July 1, 2018 Some info on the MARC web site and more here. Hopefully, registration info will be published here. MARC members should receive it with their Model A News. June 3 8 The Heart of America Model A Club of Kansas City, MO is hosting a Regional Meet in Springfield Missouri. More information can be found here and an agenda here. 7

Members may publish at no cost, ads for items wanted, for sale, or trade. They are also invited to submit technical Model A information and other interesting tidbits.
