1 Water Garden Ways Miami Valley Water Garden Society Newsletter August Volume 21 No. 8 Presidentially Speaking By Jerry Woodbury Well the weather held off for the most part for the pond tour this year. We got about a 5-minute sprinkle but not enough to dampen anyone s spirit. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Mike Brinson, Jan LeValley and Marilyn Miller for getting all of the info together for the pond tour tickets. I also want to thank all of our members who not only promoted the tour to their co-workers, friends and family but, drug them along with them on the tour. This is what helps make the public pond tour a success. But most of all I want thank each member who placed their lovely ponds on the tour this year. I heard so many comments from attendees of the tour that each pond owner expressed their love of having a pond in their yard and landscape. DON T FORGET YOUR PICTURES!!! Now with the pond tour behind us there should be some great pictures of ponds for the calendar? Remember that pictures are to be pond related and taken in the landscape mode. Everyone has an equal chance of having his or her picture featured in the 2015 Pond Calendar. And remember if you don t win one month, bring them back the next month. When I am counting the votes on the pictures a lot of them are only 1 or 2 votes away from being a winning picture. Congratulations to last month s winners, Joe Kavalauskas, Dave & Mary Kinninger, & Patty Woodbury. Nominations for officers are still being taken. We have a lot of new members and if you aren t sure about being an officer, but you have suggestions about ideas for the club, please pass them onto any officer and maybe it will be something that will help the club continue to grow. Or if you are interested in contributing more to the club step up now. There are chances for becoming part of a committee to help organize events. Don t forget that August 21 thru 23 is Monet by Moonlight at Green Vista Water Gardens. It s a chance to see some of those night blooming lilies. It runs from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 pm each night. Save the date of September 14 th for our club picnic. It is going to be at the Hills and Dales Park at the Paw Paw Shelter. Meet there at 12:00 and we will eat at 1:00. I would like to thank Steve Blessing from Green Vista Water Gardens for giving his talk about ways to get clear water, and dealing with our ponds and fish during the summer months. Hope to see everyone at the next meeting at Cox Arboretum on the 27th. This month s speaker will be Adam Hater from Jones Fish Hatchery. For those of you that are unaware, Adam is well versed on all things about fish Jerry Woodbury Officers Meeting Minutes By Barb Gross The August officers meeting was held at Tickets in Fairborn on Tuesday, July 29, Members present were Mike & Cindy Brinson, Barb Gross, Jan & Pam LeValley, Carl & Marilyn Miller, Max & Kitty Strehle, and Jerry & Patty Woodbury. The treasurer s report was distributed and approved. Our pond tour on July 26th and 27th was a big success. Many tickets were sold. Thanks to the pond club committee for putting together such good driving directions. A thanks go out to all families who put their ponds on tour for all to see. Everyone enjoyed viewing all the different ponds and gardens. The weather cooperated too. Please return your frog signs to Jerry Woodbury for storage until next year's tour. Three 2015 calendar pictures were selected at the July club meeting. Winners were Joe Kavalauskas, Dave & Mary Kinninger, and Patty Woodbury. Be sure to bring your pictures to the August meeting when we will select more pictures. Remember to plan on attending the Miami Valley Water Garden Society annual picnic on Sunday, September 14, at the Paw Paw Shelter in Hills & Dales Park in Kettering. The September 2nd Officers Meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at Mimi's Café, 4402 Walnut St. in the Greene Town Center, Beavercreek. All members are welcome to attend.
