1 January 2016 President's Message My time serving as your president is winding down. As I reflect on 2015, I have enjoyed taking my turn to help guide this club through an eventful year. To all the 2015 officers and board members, I have truly enjoyed working with each one of you. You have made my job much easier than it might have been, with your willingness to stay focused and by volunteering to organize events throughout the year. By sharing the load as we did, things seemed to run very well. This past month, several members enjoyed lunch at the Bohemian Café and then toured the Durham Museum. Thanks to Anne Krueger for arranging that event. The eat-out at Ragazzi s was also well attended. Embarrassing. Sign up or contact Anne Krueger at or akru@cox.net. President s Message (continued) Winter is no time to slow down if you're a Meadowlark, as we have several activities planned during January. Our annual banquet at Anthony s Steakhouse is on January 9th, where we will enjoy some good food, tell a few stories, and install the 2016 officers and board members. Thanks to Charlie and Suzanne Earnest for planning what will surely to be a memorable event. On January 17th we are having our Round the World Pizza Party at Pizza Ranch to celebrate our club member s driving their Model A Fords over 24,901 miles during When I think that our members drove the equivalent distance of around the world at the equator, in cars that are approaching 90 years old, I realize this is indeed quite an achievement. On January 24th, we will be visiting the Joslyn Art Museum for a tour and lunch. In closing, I would like to extend my congratulations and the best of luck to Ken Grigsby as he leads your club in Please support Ken as you supported me. Let s all make 2016 A great year! See you down the road, Greg Bowden The January Board Meeting will be at the home of Anne and Ken Krueger (7406 Page ST) at 3PM on January 17. All members may attend board meetings, but please let the host board member know if you plan to attend. Hens Nest The ladies have been partying and will continue to party in January. So, no Hens Nest activities. See you back here in February. 2

If you have last minute questions, contact Charlie and Suzanne Earnest, Don t forget your $15 gift for the gift exchange Guys bring a gift for a guy, gals bring for a gal. Please use gift bags for easy handling. Yay! We drove our Model As around the world! More than 24,901 miles Now we are going to celebrate at a Round the World Pizza Party 5 PM Sunday, January 17th We met our mileage goal for 2015! We drove our Model As over 24,901 miles, the same distance as it would take to circumnavigate the world at the equator. We will be holding our 'Round the World Pizza Party honoring those who drove their Models As during 2015 and reported their miles to Dale Jergensen, our mileage chairman. We will be meeting on Sunday, January 17th at 5:00 PM at Pizza Ranch in the Frederick Square Shopping Center, 3010 S. 84th Street. It will be an all-you-can-eat affair, and the menu choices includes more than just pizza. Dessert will be provided as well. To help defray the cost to the club, we are charging only $5 per club member (kids 10 and under free). If you wish to bring any non-meadowlark guests, they will have to pay the full price directly to Pizza Ranch. When you arrive, please be ready to pay our treasurer, Mike Cahalane, as he will be working with Pizza Ranch on the total bill. If you have not yet signed up, the sign-up sheet will be at the banquet on January 9th. If you will not be at the banquet and have not signed up yet but wish to attend, please let Anne Krueger or myself know by January 9th so we have an accurate head count. Greg Bowden 3
4 Upcoming Events Visit to Joslyn Art Museum January 24 On January 24th the Meadowlark Model A Club will visit the Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge Street (Immediately West of Central High School) We will meet there at 10:00 am which is opening time for the museum. Admission for the permanent art exhibit is free. We will receive information about the exhibit when we enter the building and will have whatever time we want to enjoy the art collection and the wonderful pink marble building which has housed the exhibit since At that time Sarah Joslyn donated the funds to build a public concert hall surrounded by art exhibits as a permanent memorial to her late husband, George H. Joslyn. At noon, or later if you are still viewing the exhibit, we will have lunch in Cafe' Durham, located in the atrium near the entrance to the museum. The cafe features soups, sandwiches, salads, wraps and desserts provided by Abraham Catering. It also provides a children's menu, all at a very reasonable price. We can then, if desired, tour a temporary exhibit called "Go West, Art of the American Frontier, a collection of western art on loan from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. There is a $10.00 entrance fee to this temporary exhibit for adults over 17 years old. Others, as well as museum members, enjoy free admission. The museum also has a number of statuary art pieces in front of the building which are well worth your time if the weather permits. There is plenty of parking in the lot North and Northeast of the museum. Enter the lot from 20th Street just North of the building. Join your Model A friends on this midwinter event in a beautiful (and warm) building filled with world-class art. Further information is available at the museum's website, Barney Deden Food and Fun night! Feb 27, 2016 More Upcoming Events Make sure you bring the kids and a healthy appetite for our Soup and Bunco night on Feb 27, This is not a meeting night so circle the calendar now for the date. Please bring your favorite soup or side dish at 6:00 pm to start off the night. After we eat, we will have a night of Bunco. No experience needed!! We will have prizes and so much fun. Call Mike or Marilyn Cahalane to make your reservations. We need a solid head count. Call and feel free to leave a message. The March event will be bowling on March 20 at Wildcat Lanes in Papillion. Plenty of time to practice up! More info later. 4
5 Past Events Bohemian Café and Durham Museum on December 6 We had about 11 people at the Bohemian Café for lunch. A great meal was had by everyone. We then went to the Durham Museum. We really lucked out because it was a free week end. We got to see the beautiful Christmas tree, Bishop Clarkson Hospital in the Medicine in old Omaha exhibit. Also, we saw the Baright home and family gallery, Bryon Reed coin collection, and Brewing tradition with info on Storz and many more displays too numerous to mention. Another feature was the train cars from Union Pacific. We saw the Model A that the Meadowlarks helped to shape up several years ago. It looks like the sign giving us credit is still posted. Of course, all the guys spent a lot of time at this display. As a person who had not been there in many years, I thought it was great. I would love to go back sometime when it wasn t so busy. Quote of the Month: Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless. Thoughts to Ponder: P R Q A Honk if you love peace and quiet Despite the cost of living, have you noticed how it remains so popular? Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool. It is hard to understand how a cemetery raised its burial cost and blamed it on the cost of living. The rule: Anytime you have a chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong. You can't have everything; where would you put it? 7
