2 Congratulations and thanks for making the commitment to form a team for the 2017 Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure. Over the past 18 years our team captains have been incredible leaders in building race participation and motivating essential fundraising. Your involvement is the key to making the Race a successful fundraiser - supporting local lifesaving breast cancer programs and cutting-edge research. WHAT NOW? LET THE FUN BEGIN! GROW: Because YOU registered, your TEAMMATES can now register and join your team! It s time to start recruiting your co-workers, friends, and family. Talk it up, folks from your participant center, post flyers, hand out brochures. Remember, team registration NEVER CLOSES. Recruit away, the more the merrier! MOTIVATE: As team captain you will set your team s fundraising goal and encourage your team members to set their personal goals. Keep your teammates up to date on the NEW fundraising initiatives, using their participant center, and downloading the Komen fundraising app. Your team coach can help you every step of the way! Organize team fundraising events, create your own team t-shirts, set up fun challenges to help your teammates reach their fundraising goals, make team tailgate plans for Race Day. And remember, FUNdraising goes through October 31st so let your team spirit continue after the Race.

3 Registration is a great start, but to really to support lifesaving breast cancer programs & research, your fundraising is critical. As a team captain, you have the power to turn great PARTICIPANTS into amazing FUNDRAISERS to make an INCREDIBLE IMPACT! Share these NEW fundraising rewards with your team: $60 $158 $295 $500 Every 60 seconds, someone in the world dies of breast cancer GET STARTED! FUNDRAISE $60 and your registration fee is on us! That s right! Every race participant that fundraises $60 by OCTOBER 31st will have the option of having their registration fee refunded. $158 gives a mammogram to someone who otherwise cannot afford it KEEP IT GOING! 6 FIND A PARTNER Does your employer offer a matching gifts program? MAKE A SELF-DONATION Donate to yourself and ask friends and family to match, or better yet, beat your donation. HOST A PARTY Invite friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues to a bbq, wine tasting, or dessert night. Share your story of why you are participating in Race for the Cure and ask for their support. THROW A TEAM ROUND ROBIN Invite friends and family to visit each team members home for a course of a meal and request donations for each plate. HOLD A GARAGE SALE Increase your fundraising power by asking family, friends and neighbors to donate items for you to sell along with yours. HAVE A 50/50 RAFFLE Hold a raffle at your party, round robin, or garage sale! The winner gets half the pot! The other half goes to your fundraising. CREATE A PINK CHANGE JAR Decorate a jar to bring with you to various events. Ask your family and friends to start saving their spare change to add. Also, a great way to get neighborhood kids involved! CONTACT LOCAL BUSINESSES Ask your favorite business to donate a portion of sales to your race team! 8 Bring coffee and breakfast for a pre-race gathering bring a cooler and grill for post-race celebrating! Team Tailgate is the perfect place for your team to get together and make the most out of Race Day!! WHY? Fun, Fun, and more Fun! WHERE? Team Tailgate is located in O Donnell Park, overlooking the Race grounds with fast and easy access to the start line. The perfect spot to gather! WHAT? Teams can reserve one or more tailgate spots to call their own. Each spot accommodates up to 25 people. HOW? You decide bring your pop up tent, your coolers, and your food and beverage of choice the party is yours! WHEN? Teams can bring supplies during the day on Pre-Race Saturday or early Sunday Race Day morning. COST? Each spot costs $150. When you buy two, the third spot is only $100. Spots are limited, reserve yours today! AND don t forget to bring your decorations. Jazz up your area anyway you want- there s an award for the team with the Most Spirited tailgate spot! 9 Komen Wisconsin invites all Survivors and Forever Fighters (those battling metastatic breast cancer) to take part in the pre-race events happening in the Survivor/Forever Fighter Pavilion. The Pavilion is located around the fountain area outside the main entrance of the Milwaukee Art Museum. Activities include breakfast, free gifts, door prizes, massages, fun tattoos, photo booth, and more. 7AM 7AM to 8:30AM 8:45AM 9:15AM SURVIVOR & FOREVER FIGHTERS Pavilion Opens SURVIVOR & FOREVER FIGHTERS (and their invited guest) arrive for breakfast and pavilion activities. SURVIVOR & FOREVER FIGHTERS PRE-RACE CEREMONY on the Milwaukee Art Museum bridge 5K & 1 MILE START The Start line is directly accessible from the Pavilion Area PARKING & ADMISSION Survivors and Forever Fighters will receive a pass to park free in the O Donnell Garage. Each will also receive a special race bib for their Pavilion admission and pink wrist band for their guest s access. The pass, bib, and wristband will all be included in their race packet

10 The Komen Mission: Save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. A woman s chance of developing breast cancer increases with age. In the United States 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In the coming year, more than 4700 Wisconsinites will be diagnosed and over 790 will lose their life to breast cancer. This is why Komen Wisconsin has hosted the Southeast Wisconsin Race for a Cure fundraiser for the past 18 years. And why your team s registration and fundraising are essential to making Komen s Mission a Reality! When your team registers and fundraises for the Race for the cure: 75% of the money you raise stays in our communities to fund lifesaving breast cancer programs that provide screenings, diagnostic tests, and access to treatment for those who would otherwise not be able to find or afford those services. 25% of the money you raise funds cutting edge breast cancer research that is developing new screenings, better treatments, and will someday find the cures. Your donations are saving lives and making real progress in the mission to end breast cancer forever! Susan G.
