2 WELCOME LETTERS! PAGE 2 Pastor Aaron Lundquist ASSISTANT PASTOR, CONNECT GROUPS I m excited that you are checking out the first Connect Group catalog. At the Family Church we believe that when we connect with one another around God s word, our personal growth is inevitable; that is why connect groups are the hub of our ministry. Within this booklet you will find dedicated Connect Group leaders and hosts who have made a commitment to creating and developing an environment so that you can connect and grow. As you look through the next several pages, you will see all of our Connect Groups; some for all ages and stages, others for our wonderful snowbirds and even a couple for just men or women. We have also included a few FAQ s so you can get a better idea of what these groups are all about. If after taking a look at the Connect Groups you are just not sure what is the best fit for you, give us a call. We would love to help you connect with your new group. Get on board today! I m confident God will work in your life by connecting you to others. -Pastor Aaron Carolyn Housewert COORDINATOR, CONNECT GROUPS So often I am asked, Why should I join a Connect Group? We live in a culture which encourages us to look out for ourselves but Scripture teaches us that we are not to be self-centered and live in isolation. Jesus spoke to crowds of people but He maintained close relationships with His 12 disciples. We need one another to share times of challenge as well as times of joy and celebration. My husband Mike and I have been a part of a small group or Connect Group for many years and have built relationships with others which have lasted our lifetime. Even when we moved to Florida, we still maintain a connection with our small group friends up north. We live in challenging times and support from friends is so important. Please give a Connect Group a try you may find that this was the best decision you have made as we begin our new year together at The Family Church! -Carolyn Housewert

3 FAQS! PAGE 3 What is a Connect Group? A Connect Group is a home fellowship made up of people who meet weekly to share, study and support one another. A Connect group is an Acts 2 Biblical community where believers gather together, share in God s word, and open up their lives to each other. A trained leader and host lead each group. An average meeting lasts for an hour and a half, followed by light refreshments. When and Where Do They Meet? Connect Groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout Marco Island and the greater Marco area. Most evening groups start around 6:30 or 7:00 and all are finished by 9:00. The daytime groups meeting times vary. A typical group will meet for 2 hours including refreshment and mingling time. How Long Do They Last? Each Connect Group session lasts 9 to 11 weeks. We have Fall, Winter & Spring sessions. At the end of each session, you will have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group or even taking a break. Most groups stay together throughout the entire year. Connect Groups do not meet mid-june through August. What is the Required Commitment? Joining a Connect Group requires a 9 to 11 week commitment to attend weekly meetings and do the homework ahead of time. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts and other special events, but not much more. This commitment is the key to a strong Connect Group. You have the first three weeks to attend the group to make sure it's a good fit for you. What Will We Study? Most of the studies are based on the previous weekend's message. These "sermon-based" Connect Groups are built on what we call a "Lecture-Lab" model. Imagine the weekend message as a lecture on Christian living, and the Connect Group as a lab where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the weekend's message works in real life. Each week there will be a series of Bible passages and questions on the back of the sermon note sheet to study before the meeting. It will usually take 20 to 40 minutes per week to complete the homework. What Does It Cost? Few things in life are free and Connect Groups are no exception! The cost of Connect Groups is the cost of commitment. During the first meeting, each group will complete a "covenant" together. This simple form helps each group discuss their priorities and commitment. Part of that commitment is the promise to attend each week

4 FAQS! PAGE 4 and to complete the homework as well as to attend the quarterly social. You have the first three weeks to decide if your group is a good fit for you. When you join a Connect Group, you are promising to attend and be prepared each week. It is this commitment that makes Connect Groups work. We realize it is a big commitment, but it only lasts for 9-11 weeks. At the end of each quarter, you have the choice of recommitting for another quarter, trying a new group, or taking a break from Connect Groups altogether. What About Child Care? Connect Groups are for adults only. (Exceptions can be made for nursing newborns.) We leave it up to each family to work out their own child care. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap child care with another family whose Connect Group meets on a different evening. How Do I Choose A Group? When selecting a group, we strongly recommend you choose a group based on its leader-host team rather than its location or night of the week. We believe that groups do best when members share a common interests with their leaders, hosts, and other group members. Next to each leader and host we have included a short bio with their interests and passions. You may find that is the most effective way to connect with others. If you have any questions (especially if you are new to The Family Church), please don't hesitate to call the church office, and we will gladly assist you. Keep in mind that it might take two or three groups before you find the perfect fit, but don't worry, you'll find it! How Do I Sign Up For A Growth Group? As we begin each quarter we will offer sign-up weekends, where you will be able to sign up for groups at the tables located under the canopy. Booklets with information on the Connect groups are available prior to the sign up weekends or at the guest services desk through out the quarter. During sign up weekends, several volunteers will be available to assist you in choosing a group and answering any questions you might have. You may also obtain information or pick up an information booklet at the guest services desk located in the lobby. Don t forget you can call the Connect Group office at any time to speak with Connect Group Staff members who will gladly assist you in finding and signing up for a group, or answer any questions Ext 209
