1 Dear Families, SCHOOL PHOTOS 17 th March 2016 School Photo Envelopes have gone home. Spares are available in the office. Family photo envelopes need to be collected from the office. 10 th March, 2016 St Alipius Parish School is a school that is connected to community in so many ways. Last Friday we were out and about in the community as we rode our bikes and scooters or walked to school. There is something about taking the slower journey into school that helps is really identify where we are situated and the people and places that surround us. Congratulations to everyone who joined in this event and especially to Maria Nunn for her organisation and preparation. Every child who participated in Ride/Walk to school received a raffle ticket to a draw for 3 helmets. The lucky winners were Adam Griffiths, John Patrick Fitzgibbon and Siobhan Sugars. We thank Gove Cycles for the donation of the helmets. We especially recognise the Blood family who rode in from Pootilla, great work guys.

2 Also on Friday we connected with our community through the 3/4 Learning Community s connection to Clean Up Australia Day. Dan Pollard s leadership and organisation has made this another annual event on our calendar and a time when we show in our actions our commitment to the environment. At Alipius we are focused on connecting with families about student learning. Our 3/4 Learning Communities has planned a celebration of student learning next Wednesday between 5 and 7pm. Our foundation families are coming in for a Meet and Greet next Thursday at 6pm and our year 5 parents are invited to a cyber-safety session on Wednesday March 23 rd. The involvement of parents and caregivers in students learning is a key factor in improving outcomes. We encourage families to take advantage of these opportunities. Look out for an invitation to join Claire O Halloran in the SHARE programme on Tuesday mornings in Term 2. Claire is a skilled facilitator in assisting parents to help their children learn at home. LENTEN REFLECTION In this week s Gospel we hear Jesus teaching through parable. This parable is most often known as The Prodigal Son, however, it could also be known as The Merciful Father. Although the son has done the wrong thing he overcomes his fear and returns home and experiences a joyful welcome. It highlights that love is merciful, that despite mistakes and wrongdoing, love endures. This week you may like to Have a family celebration to celebrate the love you have for one another. Make sure you say I love you to the special people in your life. MERCY CORNER But the most important thing is to walk together by working together, by helping one another, by asking forgiveness, by acknowledging one s mistakes and asking for forgiveness, and also by accepting the apologies of others by forgiving - how important this is! (Pope Francis) Reflect upon the following questions. Who do you need to forgive? Who do you need to ask for forgiveness? What words and deeds will you use/do this week to build right relationships? God of Mercy, may our lives this day bring us to a deeper awareness of your presence among us. May we be moved by heartfelt mercy, to take action wherever possible on behalf of all who suffer. We ask that your justice may reign in our world. Amen

The 2016 East Point Auskick program at Russell Square will kick off on Friday 15 April so please register now. This year's Auskick sees a number of changes. We say farewell and thank you to Sean Roscoe and his family for their commitment, passion and energy to the Russell Square Auskick program over the last five or six years. Sean has done a tremendous in developing our young players. The 2016 Auskick Coordinator will be Simon Geljon. Simon is the father of three - one of which is an Auskicker. Simon comes to the role after a distinguished playing career with East Point and others. Welcome to the role Simon. This year's program will once again supported by the East Point Kangaroos and the East Point u16.5s players. And of course parental assistance will be required so don't be afraid to step forward and help out. On behalf of the East Point JFNC we look forward to seeing you at this year's Auskick program.

4 St Alipius Parish School Community Fair Sunday 23 rd October am onwards March is Mystery jar month! In March, we are collecting donations of Mystery Jars (nonperishable) one of our most popular stalls at the Fair! Mystery jars can be glass or plastic jars or containers filled with non-perishable goodies. We are already receiving some great donations of jars with fantastic goodies inside for both boys and girls. Examples of contents may include; stationery, pencils, crayons, hairbands, mini cars, buttons, loom bands, pocket games, marbles, erasers, lip balms, stickers, tattoos, glow sticks, hair gel, socks, craft supplies etc. You may have other ideas too be as creative as you wish! Donations of mystery jars will be gratefully accepted at the St Alipius Parish School Office. Interested in a stall at the Fair? We have had some enquiries from businesses about having a stall at the Fair, but would like to offer the opportunity to members of our school community initially. If you have a small business and are interested in having a stall at the Fair, please contact Sue Rowles on or lucasandsue@optusnet.com.au Before the end of term (March 24 th ) This month we have received a major donation thanks to Regent Entertainment, Ballarat for our raffle.
