Santa Busy! What began as a project for our new Toy Run Committee, ended up being so much more than just a ride to deliver toys! In fact, Santa and his HOG Elves were quite busy during the months of November and December. In November, RGV HOGs teamed up with the Edinburg North High School National Honor Society to visit the Alfredo González State Veterans Nursing Home to present all the veterans with a plaque thanking them for their service. Members again, visited the residents, in early December, complete with Police, Fire Dept., Constable and Marine escort to present everyone with warm, lap blankets. Right before Christmas, our members visited the nursing home a third time, to deliver some much-needed furniture for the residents in the Alzheimer s Wing. This year s Toy Runs included a ride to two Headstarts in Pharr and Alamo and a second Run to The Vannie Cook Childrens Cancer Center in McAllen. More than 200 toys were delivered by our own Bub...uh...Santa to some very excited youngsters! Many thanks to our Sponsor, RGV-HD, the E.N.H.S. National Honor Society, our Toy Run Committee chairs, the two Headstart Programs staff and students, The Vannie Cook Childrens Cancer Center staff and patients, and of course, all our HOG Elves!!! What a great start to the 2010 Holiday Season! INSIDE THIS ISSUE Frontpage H.O.G. News Messages from your Officers Featured HOG of the Month RGV H.O.G. 2 Director Jorge Barrientos Fellow HOGs, Welcome to a brand new year with The Rio Grande Valley South Texas Harley Owners Group. I trust that you all had a great Christmas Holiday and are ready to take on the New Year! I am honored to have been elected as your Director. We are much more than a riding group...we are a family, and as such, we are there for each other. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have about The Chapter. I will work hard, with our officers, to make sure that everyone s concerns are looked at and that we find the best way to address each issue. Our first officer meeting is scheduled during the first week of January. We will organize and plan for the upcoming year, keeping in mind all the great things we have accomplished this past year and looking for great new adventures. Our Chapter will have goals and objectives, rides, socials, charity events and more...all in keeping with our Chapter Motto: Ride and Have Fun!!! Let us know what you d like to see. what you d like to do and where you d like to ride! All our new officers have great ideas and are ready to make it happen! We will work closely with our sponsoring dealership, to schedule lots of great events for a great variety of tastes and real fun times! I encourage you to visit our new website: (still under construction) and read our monthly newsletters to stay abreast of all our upcoming events. We will keep sending you update s as things come up and change. Again, welcome to YOUR H.O.G. CHAPTER for an exciting new year!!! Jorge jorgelbarrientos@hotmail.com Hello HOGs, What a great year it was! I would like to thank everyone who helped make it a huge success. I am looking forward to great new year with Jorge at the helm. I know we will continue the great traditions and look for even more exciting things to do. I encourage you to attend all our General Membership meetings that will now be scheduled on the last Thursday of the month at the RGV-HD Dealership at 6:00 p.m. to socialize; 7:00 p.m. for the meeting. I ll see ya there! Have Fun and Watch Out for the Other Guy, Alex Assistant Director Alex Aguilar, Jr.
3 Hi! My name is Hector Zuniga. I have been with the Rio Grande Valley HOG Chapter for several years now. I have served as your Sergeant at Arms, Head Road Captain and most recently as your Secretary. This year I will assist you as your Safety Officer. I have ridden motorcycles since I was 12 years old but not without incident or accident. What is it that they say, You learn through your experiences. Well, maybe I can help you learn through my experiences instead of you learning it first hand. Bummer! Throughout the year, I will provide you with information relative to motorcycle safety in order to better prepare you for enjoying the pleasures of motorcycle riding. My goal this year will be to provide you with information that will help you avoid being involved in an accident. I will also provide information on keeping your motorcycle in proper working condition so as to prevent accidents as a result of poor maintenance. In the meantime, if you have an issue regarding motorcycle safety, be sure to let me know. I will provide you an answer when I have researched your question or who knows, I may have been in that situation before and thus help you through my experiences. Before I let you go, please send me your questions through my at hzulu@sbcglobal.net. I will publish the questions and provide answers to benefit all our members. Until next month, remember our motto: Ride and Have Fun be safe and God keep you with the rubber side down. Safety Officer Hector Zuniga Hector hzulu@sbcglobal.net LOOK UP Greetings, and Happy New-Year to all my fellow HOGs, 2010 will be a year that we can look back on, and see the infirmities that come with getting older, and also see how faithful God is, as he directs our lives though sickness, and health. I do believe that this Christmas toy run, and visit to the veterans center, were the best ever. How blessed is it to see the faces of the young children, and some very old veterans, as they received gifts, and the recognition of the veterans, for there service. What will 2011 bring? Let us hope and pray for peace and prosperity, and a renewing of our lives to a God that holds the whole world in his hands, and loves us and wants to be a part of all our hopes and dreams. May we thank God for the past, seek God for the future, and live for God, just for today. God Bless You, Geezer & Sunshine WALT67K@aol.com Chaplain Walt Kennon DIRECTOR *Jorge Barrientos ASST. 4 Ladies of Harley Officer Marty Fuller I hope that everyone had a great holiday season. The holidays are always the best time of the year to spend time with the family. As the new year starts, I am looking forward to spending time with my HOG family throughout We will have our first Ladies of Harley meeting sometime in January. Once the meeting date and time is set, we will send out an to all the ladies. We will be talking about our plans for the new year. I hope to see all my old friends there and some new ones as well. I want to invite all the ladies to please come to our meeting and learn what the Ladies of Harley is all about. Marty marty@penoli.com Head Road Captain Scott Fuller I would like to start my first article by giving props to my predecessor Hugo Martinez. As Head Road Captain, Hugo gave our HOG group many GREAT rides this past year, and would like to sincerely thank him for his efforts and guidance over the past year. After talking with Jorge (our new director), we want to put on even more rides in 2011 * At least three rides a month (some long, some short, some on weekends, some during the week, etc. * At least two hang outs a month (Monster Carwash, Sweet Spot, Shakes, etc ) During our first monthly Road Captain meeting on Friday January 14 th, we will start planning our rides and organizing for the year. In order to put on more rides in 2011, we will need more Road Captains. If you are interested in becoming a Road Captain, please contact me and let s talk about the opportunity. Safe travels, Scott pistolagrande@rgvhogs.com
5 Webmaster Scott Fuller We have a new website It isn t much to look at yet, as I am busily working on building the content. I am working on a framework that will make it quick and easy to post new pictures, events, and stories. Please check it out toward the last half of January. We will also be sending out an when it is up and running. In the meantime, thank you for your patience. Safe travels, Scott pistolagrande@rgvhogs.com Hello Everyone, Got a great new plan for a great new year! Instead of historical questions about Harley Davidson National like we ve had in the past, I ve decided to test everyone s knowledge and research savvy on Harley Davidson at our local level! I will give you a clue each month and of course, you ve still got your RGV HOG buddies to get you through at the last minute!!! QUESTION: HINT: Who is the manager of the Rio Grande Valley Harley Davidson Motorclothes Department? How carefully do you read your monthly newsletter? Good luck and say HI to him/her when next you see him/her! Janie alxhntr@aol.com Historian Janie Aguilar
