4 A WORLD FREE OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS ABOUT MS Multiple sclersis, an unpredictable, ften disabling disease f the central nervus system, interrupts the flw f infrmatin within the brain, and between the brain and bdy. Symptms range frm numbness and tingling t blindness and paralysis. The prgress, severity and specific symptms f MS in any ne persn cannt yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are mving us clser t a wrld free f MS. Mst peple with MS are diagnsed between the ages f 20 and 50, with at least tw t three times mre wmen than men being diagnsed with the disease. MS affects mre than 2.3 millin peple wrldwide. ABOUT THE NATIONAL MS SOCIETY The Sciety mbilizes peple and resurces t drive research fr a cure and t address the challenges f everyne affected by MS. T fulfill this missin, the Sciety funds cutting-edge research, drives change thrugh advcacy, facilitates prfessinal educatin, cllabrates with MS rganizatins arund the wrld, and prvides prgrams and services designed t help peple with MS and their families mve their lives frward. 6 WHY WE PARTICIPATE IN WALK MS The mst fun part f the event is being surrunded by my friends and family. Being able t see and feel their supprt. The walk is a celebratin fr me every year. I celebrate what I can d physically but als fr the cmmunity as a whle. I lk frward t spending time with friends and family n this day and seeing my ther friends with MS. It is all abut being with my friends, family and supprting a great cause. It is a chance fr us t get tgether and d gd as a family. I just lve being there and seeing all the lve and supprt frm everyne! It s a gd feeling t see that peple really d care, and that with their help, we will find a cure! JOIN THE MOVEMENT & TEAM UP Nearly 75 percent f Walk MS participants are part f a team. WHY FORM A TEAM? Because jining the mvement is mre fun with thers arund! Plus, yu can earn sme really great prizes, including a tent fr yur team at the event. RECRUITING Team members can be anybdy friends, family, cwrkers, r neighbrs and they can all easily register as walkers nline at walkms.rg. Whether yu re a crprate team r a team f family and friends, just be sure t ask everyne yu knw. RAISING MONEY Fundraising cmes mre naturally when yu make it persnal. If yur team is walking fr smene with MS, ask them if they wuld be willing t tell their stry. Be sure t fllw that with a statement abut hw much prgress we ve made in treating the disease. 8 GOAL SETTING: WHO HAS THE MOST TEAM SPIRIT? Establishing a gal is an easy way t maintain mtivatin as well as give yu and yur team a benchmark fr success. We encurage team captains t set gals fr themselves and their teams. KEEP THESE TIPS IN MIND: 100% Fundraising Make it YOUR GOAL t have every single team member an active fundraiser either by them making a self-dnatin r asking thers t dnate t them. Gals shuld be realistic, but significant If it requires hard wrk t attain, it will be a surce f mre pride fr yur team. Set a gal with input frm the team Having them believe in the gal frm the start will make yur jb as team captain that much easier. Set bth persnal and team fundraising gals Lead by example. Share yur persnal fundraising gal with yur team. Set a gal fr team size as well as cllective fundraising Recruiting mre team members can mean mre substantial fundraising! Share yur gal! Yu can cmpleted the waiver by registering yurself nline, if nt yu will need t cmplete the waiver at registratin. Yu can als mail in the waiver by dwnlading it frm walkms.rg.
