Contact Liddi Pate at dixiecowgirl137@yahoo.com to receive more information today! Grants & Updates It is an exciting time for our Fairy Godmother Program. We have been reaching out to other charitable organizations to tell them about what Fairy Godmothers do and to learn what they do. This has opened the ability for them to refer those they cannot help to us and for us to refer people who they can help to them. After reviewing what other agencies can help with and examining our own mandate, the Fairy Godmother Program has further defined its mission as assisting women with needs that help them obtain and retain employment. Requests that fall within our guidelines are assistance with vehicle expenses so a woman can continue to go to work, assistance with efforts to obtain employment and efforts associated with obtaining a better job. This is an area where there are few other agencies who can assist and one where we feel we can make a substantive difference. In the month of May we received 5 requests. We were able to help 2 of them through the Fairy Godmother Program. 2 were referred to other agencies for assistance and 1 has not been finalized yet. The approved requests were for assistance with car payment and gas to help a newly employed woman get to work until she received her

2 first paycheck. As always, we invite Fairy Godmothers to look for those in our community who need assistance and to make referrals to the program. If you are not a Fairy Godmother, please consider becoming one. Your tax deductible membership will allow the Fairy Godmother Program to continue to help those in need. Fairy Godmother membership is just $100 per year. If you are already a NEWMS member, you can add the Fairy Godmother portion to your existing membership. 3 Member Spotlight: Albine Bennett "Dancing Like The Stars" to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi Friends, When asked to dance and fundraise for the Boys and Girls Club at the annual "Dance Like The Stars" event, I was immediately honored. Not only because of the proven reputation and leadership of the Boys and Club, but also because of my personal desire to help secure a hopeful future for the many less fortunate children in our community. In the words of John F. Kennedy, "One person can make a difference and everyone should try." This year, as I celebrate my 30 th birthday, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than to "try" and make a difference! The personal goal I have set for this endeavor is to raise $50,000! Will you join me and try? Will you join me and try to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate children in our community? Will you try by stretching out your hand to equip the over 1600 children who are impacted by this mission in our area alone, empowering them with academic and life skills? Will you try by donating to a cause that helps to build necessary confidence and self-esteem, building up the vulnerable and enabling them to secure and maintain their highest potential? Will you try to look into the eyes of these children and know the certain future success that awaits them because of the support of a community that believes in their possibilities?
