1 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CITY OF SANIBEL, FLORIDA July 6, 2004 Administration Offices (239) HOT WIENERS, HOT WINNERS, & COLD BANANAS: SANIBEL S COMMUNITY PICNIC IS A HOT TIME The 2004 Independence Day Community Picnic proved to be a sea of red, white & blue fun as Sanibel residents consumed 3,500 hot dogs, 2,000 sodas, 1000 servings of cotton candy, 500 snow cones and 1,000 frozen bananas while participating in numerous games from horseshoes to cow milking competitions. This year s event marked the second consecutive year that the town has gathered together at the Sanibel Community Association and adjacent city-owned lands for a community picnic following the Independence Day Parade. The hot dog grills and service were operated by the Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Sanibel-Captiva Islands, the Sanibel Community Church and City of Sanibel employees. Volunteers from Big Arts and the Sanibel Community Association also assisted by staffing the beverage service. In addition to providing staff during the event the City of Sanibel provided all the event set-up/tear down and traffic control. The following donors contributed to the Community Picnic: The Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, Tween Waters Inn; Billy s Rentals; Bailey s General Store; Colonial Bank; Mike McMurray VIP Realty Group; Barb Rich, South Seas Sanibel and Captiva Properties; Gilda Suarez, Executive Title Insurance; Vasanta Senerat, CPA; Dick Muench, Periwinkle Park and Lazy Flamingo; Jerry Muench; Brian Murty; Damon Craig; Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva; Doc Ford s Sanibel Rum
2 Bar and Grille; Sysco Food Systems; The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club; The Sanibel Shellcrafters; Sanibel Historical Village and Museum; Thistle Lodge/Casa Ybel Resort; Tarpon Bay Explorers; She Sells Sea Shells; South Florida Water Management District; Schnapper s Hots; and Dairy Queen. Game Winners Many youth and adults left the picnic with great prizes.
