GARETH S STORY 9
Goal People & This is Relationships never not at play Psychoneurobiology 10
PSYCHOBIOLOGICAL OBSTACLES TO CLEAR COMMUNICATION implicit memory armoring level 2 interoception response under pressure 11
ANTIDOTES TO OBSTACLES Obstacles implicit memory armoring level 2 interoception response under pressure Antidotes somatic opening embodied self awareness resilience communication skills 12
SPEECH ACTS Assertions The window is open. That table is made of glass. It s 9:00. Requests & Offers Promises Assessments Declaration 13
CO-ACTIVATE Sensation + Emotion Limbic & Interoceptive Emotion Speech Linguistic & Conceptual Interoception Conceptual Proprioception Exteroception Movement / Gesture Movement & Motor Cortex in Relationship Exteroceptive 14
INTERACTIVE MINDFULNESS Your World Other s World Emotion somatic / sensory listening Emotion Interoception Interoception Conceptual Conceptual Proprioception Exteroception Proprioception Exteroception extension 15
THE BIG IDEA Contingent communication relies upon presence, limbic resonance, and attunement; these all contribute to building TRUST Our psychobiology is at play in every interaction Armoring, implicit memory, level 2 interoception, and our reaction under pressure can all interfere with and disrupt communication To communicate well, you need to be able to take action with language - including those actions that trigger you Building this capacity requires activating all aspects of your psychobiology while interacting with others 16
PRINCIPLES FOR PRACTICE First, strengthen the capacity to feel and to center under pressure Discover your embodied habits of communication Through somatic practice and / or conversation Where do you get thrown off center? Practice speaking, moving, feeling, and interacting all at once Build resilience around the speech acts that are hard 17
REFLECTION / FIELDWORK Where are the places you and / or your clients are challenged to speak freely and communicate clearly? Choose one of those. Design a practice to help yourself or your client build the capacity for greater presence and more clear and contingent communication. 18
