3 FALL PROTECTION INSTRUCTOR NOTES The fllwing prvides a useful preparatin utline fr use by trainers presenting the Fall Prtectin prgram presentatin t emplyees. Training Objectives Review the fall prtectin prgram and train emplyees in prper facility prcedures. Train emplyees t understand the dangers f falls and prper methds f preventing them. Befre Training Read the OSHA standards and the entire fall prtectin prgram. Cmplete the blank sectins in the written prgram. Bring samples f prper (and, if available, wrn r unacceptable) PPE. Intrductin fr Training Begin by stressing the verall imprtance f safety in yur facility. Stress the reasns why falls are s dangerus: Department f Labr reprts falls as ne f the leading causes f traumatic n-the-jb deaths. Discuss ther statistics regarding falls specific t yur industry. An injury resulting frm a slip, trip r fall can result in tremendus pain and lst time at wrk. Prvide verview n types f falls Stress sme f the cmmn causes f slips, trips and falls in yur wrkplace, and cite ways that emplyees can prevent them (e.g., husekeeping, walking instead f running, staying fcused). Prvide an verview f the equipment used in yur wrkplace that culd present a falling hazard, and discuss methds f preventing falls fr each piece. Emphasize the imprtance f inspecting equipment thrughly befre munting r descending. Discuss PPE Shw emplyees examples f prper PPE and explain hw t pick the right type.
