2 IOF ISCD Skeletal Health Orlando 2014 Current concepts in Osteoporosis Orlando assessment & management We are delighted to invite you to join us at the IOF-ISCD Skeletal Health Orlando 2014 meeting to be held at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa, Orlando, Florida USA on February 20-22, This joint Meeting by IOF and ISCD is held in partnership with IOF members in the region: Osteoporosis Canada (OC), California Hispanic Osteoporosis Foundation (CHOF), Osteometabolic Brazilian Orthopedic Association (ABOOM), Brazilian Association of Bone Assessment and Metabolism (ABRASSO), Mexican Association of Bone and Mineral Metabolism (AMMOM) is a very special year as it marks ISCD s 20th Anniversary and IOF s first North American Regional Meeting. We plan to make this a memorable joint event and look forward to seeing you in Orlando! The Scientific Program Committee has developed a rich program to provide Clinicians, Technologists and Researchers with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills needed to optimally identify and manage their patients. A faculty of worldrenowned experts will deliver oral presentations and Meet-the-Expert sessions to provide knowledge of relevance to everyday clinical practice. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) is well known for its leadership in educating professionals in the assessment of skeletal health and management of osteoporosis. We welcome all professionals, from those involved in performing and/or interpreting DXA to those who refer patients with skeletal health concerns for evaluation. Our membership comprises a broad spectrum of professionals from Radiology, Rheumatology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/ Gynecology, Endocrinology and Family Practice. ISCD Technologists, Researchers and Clinicians are globally recognized for their work and dedication to skeletal health assessment. Our Annual Meeting showcases the talent, resources and worldwide network of ISCD. The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), based in Switzerland, is the world s largest nongovernmental organization dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and related musculoskeletal diseases. IOF s membership includes scientific researchers, leading companies, and more than 200 patient, medical and research societies from all regions of the world. Through its science and research programs, publications, global scientific meetings, health professional training, advocacy initiatives, and public outreach campaigns such as World Osteoporosis Day, IOF works to make bone, joint and muscle health a worldwide heath care priority. 3 MEETING and CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES To provide clinicians, technologists and researchers with state of the art knowledge and skills needed to optimally identify and manage patient care. Specifically, by the end of the program, attendees will be able to: 1. Analyze the latest emerging treatments available for patients with Osteoporosis 2. Apply clinical tools and resources to optimize osteoporosis management, with understanding of the latest developments in fracture risk assessment tools, pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, and treatment-related issues such as rare serious side effects and drug holidays. 3. Practice improved communication skills between Technologist and Physician 4. Understand the techniques involved in obtaining quality bone mass assessments and how poorly obtained measurements and inaccurate interpretation negatively impacts clinical care. 5. Review and incorporate into practice the revised ISCD Official Positions regarding Pediatrics, Total Body Composition, DXA, Vertebral Fracture and Utilization of Normative Databases 6. Assess the role of sarcopenia, frailty and body composition in the clinical setting. 4 MEET-THE-EXPERT SESSIONS Case-based discussions on special issues related to skeletal health designed for smaller audiences. IOF-ISCD YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD IOF & ISCD are dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge of the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, and in particular to encouraging young researchers in all parts of the world to focus on this important area of research. As a sign of this commitment, IOF & ISCD are offering an award of USD to the top five ranked abstracts submitted by young investigators (40 years or under). The recipients will be awarded USD and will be invited to present their work at a special session on Friday February 21, EXHIBIT and NETWORK CENTER Visit the Exhibit and Network Center to learn about the latest industry advancements, network with colleagues and exhibitors during breakfasts and coffee breaks, get answers to your questions and find out what s new in the field.
