REICHEL On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, we would like to thank Dr. William Reichel for his generosity in donating copies of Reichel s Care of the Elderly, Seventh Edition. Quentin Young Health Activist Award Congratulations to Dr. Richard Bruno, FM-Prev Med, who was awarded the Quentin Young Health Activist Award, named for the late physician activist from Chicago. Dr. Young fought for social justice and healthcare equity, for public involvement in health policy decisions, and advocated that health insurance be a fundamental right. For most of his life, Young worked in private practice in Chicago's Hyde Park community. He gained fame from some high-profile individuals who received care at his practice. They include President Barack Obama, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Mike Royko, former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Clinton Foundation Fellow Rotation Dr. Bruno also began a preventive medicine rotation as a fellow at the Clinton Foundation this month, where he will be working on prescription drug abuse reduction efforts with the Clinton Health Matters Initiative. CHMI s goals are to reduce the prevalence of preventable health outcomes and close health inequity and disparity gaps by improving access to key contributors to health for all people through strategic partnerships, working across sectors, and leveraging technology and digital innovation. Healthy Vending Machines Bill Dr. Bruno, MedChi BOD and Sugar Free Kids MD, spoke at a press conference in January with representatives from the American Heart Association, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Service Employees International Union, and the Horizon Foundation as they launched their campaign to support the passage of the new Healthy Vending Machines bill. This bill will be introduced in the MD General Assembly this session and would set the standard for any vending machine on state property, from official government buildings, parks, and recreation centers, to offer at least 50% of its food or drink as healthy options.
