2 GALA & LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Connecting with a Corps of Professionals Improving Health for Vulnerable People SPARK! celebrates The Fellowship (ASF) mission of preparing the next generation of professionals who will serve and empower vulnerable people to live healthier lives and create healthier communities. The SPARK! Gala and Leadership Conference illuminate the work of ASF to promote service to underserved people and perpetuate the legacy of Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Albert Schweitzer and his philosophy of Reverence for Life and service. The purpose of life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others Since 1997, ASF has prepared more than 3,000 Schweitzer Fellows to enter the workforce confident and committed to health equity and effectively working with diverse and vulnerable people. The ASF national network of 14 affiliated chapters support U.S. Schweitzer Fellows, a select group of graduate students who create community-based prevention, wellness and access programs that address the underlying causes of health inequities, such as poverty, the environment, and education in their local areas. Additionally, senior medical students are selected to serve a three-month rotation at the Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon, Africa. SPARK! GALA Friday, November 4, :30 pm This inspiring evening will highlight the community impact of Schweitzer Fellows and present our highest honors to individuals who through their life s work demonstrate a commitment to improving health, developing leaders and creating change. GALA HONOREES Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism Ralph Fuccillo President, The DentaQuest Foundation Ralph Fuccillio has been a lifelong champion and tireless advocate for health equity, community engagement and the work of community health centers. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the U.S. Regional Health Equity Council. As the President of the DentaQuest Foundation, Ralph is committed to reducing the burden of oral diseases and poor oral health through the resources and national reach of DentaQuest s corporate and philanthropic investment.

3 Schweitzer Clarion Award for Health Promotion and Education Dr. Edward J. Benz, Jr. President and CEO, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute As President and CEO of the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Benz has brought attention and solutions to the racial disparities in access to oncology care and health outcomes. Under his leadership, Dana-Farber partnered with the Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury, MA, to open a diagnostic clinic, the country s first dedicated oncology space in a Federally Qualified Health Center. Dana-Farber also launched the Cancer Care Equity Program and established Dana-Farber s Center for Global Cancer Medicine to provide care, education, facilities, and research expertise to the people of Rwanda and Haiti. The Lawrence Gussman Award for Outstanding Service to The Schweitzer Fellowship Dr. Arthur Kohrman Past Director, ASF National Board Dr. Kohrman has served as Chair of the Chicago program for twenty years. A long-time member of the Health & Medicine Board in Chicago, Dr. Kohrman recently served as acting director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. A much respected physician-scholar, Dr. Kohrman has held several key hospital administrative appointments including the Pritzker School of Medicine at University of Chicago; LaRabida Children s Hospital and Research Center; and Northwestern University where he is currently Professor Emeritus. Master of Ceremonies Dr. Timothy Johnson Vice Chair, ASF National Board Dr. Johnson is Senior Medical Contributor for ABC News, host of a health reform podcast for WBUR. He is an Emmy-award winning medical reporter recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for excellence in communicating complicated health care information to the broader public. SPARK! LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Saturday, November 5, am -- 5pm The Schweitzer Leadership Conference convenes 200 current Schweitzer Fellows and alumni, as well as other graduate students and health professionals and community leaders in a day-long conference to learn from strategic and innovative leaders who are shaping thought leadership, discussions and actions related to health equity, health care, social change and public policy. Nationally known health and health care leaders serve as faculty presenters and the honorees serve as keynote speakers. Confirmed speakers include honorees Dr. Edward J.
