11 Advisory Committee Evaluation Advisory Committee Members appreciate: Learning about services offered by PCA and other organizations Networking oppty s: Gaining perspectives of organizations with same or similar missions Information sharing oppty s : learning about city s diverse elders, training & grants, becoming aware of services might not otherwise know, share ideas on fundraising, find speakers for home agency, increase referral capacity Teaching PCA about community expertise, helping PCA to identify areas needed for outreach
12 Community Outreach Program Utilizing compensated PCA employees as after hours volunteers, in FY 2013 information was provided to more than 22,000 people at neighborhood events, Health fairs and festivals
13 Community Outreach Grants For eight years, PCA has offered Community Outreach Grants to small community based organization to enhance the outreach capability of its Community Relations Department. We will begin our ninth cycle July 1, PCA expects to issue five (5) more grants of $15,000 per agency for FY2016. The proposed projects should be designed to link older adults from isolated and underserved populations to activities, services, and benefits. For more information, contact Bethea Eichwald.

19 Picture of Alzheimer s As many as 5 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer s and that number is expected to increase nearly 16 million by the year The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer's and other dementias to Medicare, Medicaid and businesses amount to more than $200 billion each year. 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's in their lifetime.
20 Picture of Alzheimer s The Alzheimer s Association estimates there are between 220,000 and 640,000 Americans age 55 to 64 with younger onset Alzheimer s and other dementias. The emotional and physical costs to individuals with the disease and their families is tremendous. In addition to the 5 million people living with Alzheimer's, there are nearly 10 million caregivers directly affected every day.

25 Support Groups The Alzheimer s Association partners with trained volunteers to offer support groups for caregivers of individuals affected by Alzheimer s disease and related disorders Over 175 support groups meet monthly throughout the Delaware Valley Learn about coping skills and strategies Encourage members to share information, give and receive mutual support and exchange coping skills Trained facilitators Support Group Facilitators are trained volunteers who are equipped to help caregivers in need
26 Early Stage Initiatives Support Groups Educational programs Living with Alzheimer s for persons with dementia REC Center Weekly sessions in Philadelphia and Marlton Peer-2-Peer Art and cultural opportunities for social engagement
27 Diversity The Alzheimer s Association Delaware Valley Chapter seeks to be inclusive of the millions of people currently affected by Alzheimer s disease, their caregivers, and the communities in which they live. Diversity is imperative and integral to our mission.
28 Inclusivity Established in 1992, the Diversity Outreach Program cultivates relationships in diverse communities to educate families about Alzheimer s disease and related dementia, and to make Chapter services and programs more accessible to Afri (persons of African descent), Latino/Hispanic, Asian and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) communities.
29 Safety Services MedicAlert + Safe Return is a 24-hour nationwide emergency response service for individuals with Alzheimer's or a related dementia who wander or have a medical emergency. 24/7 assistance, no matter when or where the person is reported missing Training for law enforcement, emergency responders and others who provide assistance in an emergency Handling issues such as: Wandering Driving, Firearms and Shoplifting Abuse and Neglect Disaster Response
30 Care Consultation Our professional staff is dedicated to helping people navigate through the difficult decisions and uncertainties people with Alzheimer s and their families face at every stage of the disease. We can provide care consultation services to you by telephone, or in person. These include: Assessment of needs Assistance with planning and problem solving Supportive listening
