2 Reproductive system Female reproductive system has two functions: produce egg cells to protect and nourish the offspring (baby) until birth. Male reproductive system has one function: is to produce and deposit sperm. Gonads are sex organ that produces sperm or eggs : testis, plural testes, also called testicle (MALE) : an ovary (FEMALE)

4 Male Reproductive System produce sperm and deliver it to the female reproductive system. Sperm sex cells that are produced by the testes and that is needed to fertilize an egg. Female Reproductive System make eggs provide a place to support and nourish a developing human. Eggs (ova) sex cells produced by the ovaries that can be fertilized by sperm.

9 Male Reproductive system Penis- removes urine from the male s body and can deliver sperm to the female reproductive system. Penis deposit the sperm carrying fluid in the body of the female. Urethra Tube that passes through the penis. a path for urine to leave the body. It carries sperms and urine at different times. Scrotum - Skin-covered sac that hangs from the body. Holds the testes outside the body.

10 Testosterone- The male hormone made by the testes Semen- Mixture of sperm and other secretions from the male reproductive organs.

11 Epididymis tightly coiled tube where sperm mature and are stored Vas Deferens a long tube where sperm mix with fluids. Seminal Vesicles- Produce thick secretions that nourish the sperm and help sperm move easier. Found near the base of the urinary bladder Prostate gland- A gland in males that adds fluids that nourish and protect sperm when the sperm are in the female body. Sperm leave the body during ejaculation via this tube.

14 During sexual activity, the penis becomes erect or firm. Ejaculation : occurs when sperm are released from the penis after sexual excitement.

18 Menstruation Menstruation is a woman's monthly bleeding. Body sheds(removes) the lining of the uterus (womb). Menstrual blood flows from the uterus through the small opening in the cervix and passes out of the body through the vagina.

20 What does the female reproductive system do? Function is to make eggs and provide a place to support and nourish a developing human.

Vagina connects the outside of the body to the uterus Receives sperm during reproduction This is an elastic, muscular channel that connects the cervix to the outside of the woman s body. It is the tube that receives the male organ during sexual intercourse (sex). During menstruation, it is the same tube through which the blood flows out.

It is place where fertilization takes place. Uterus provides a place to support a developing human ( baby). Uterus is the place where babies develop before birth. It has very soft lining, which holds the fertilized egg and nourishes it, till it is a fully developed baby. Uterus is where the fertilized egg implants and grows during pregnancy.

25 Ovulation Ovulation is when an egg is released from the ovary into the fallopian tube, where it waits the possibility of fertilization.

28 Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that you can get from having sexual intercourse with someone who has the infection. The causes of STDs are bacteria, parasites and viruses. Chlamydia Gonorrhea Genital herpes HIV/AIDS

29 Sexually transmitted disease (STD) Most STDs affect both men and women, but in many cases. problems they cause can be more severe for women. If a pregnant woman has an STD, it can cause serious health problems for the baby. If you have an STD caused by bacteria or parasites, can treat it with antibiotics or other medicines. If you have an STD caused by a virus, there is no cure.

30 Usage of latex condoms reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the risk of catching or spreading STDs. Condom is the best precautions for avoiding pregnancy. The rubber latex coverings of the condom act as a physical barrier to sperms. During ejaculation, the condom catches semen to prevent it from entering the vagina and cervix.
