2 Cold and Flu Season is HERE! Nearly school days are lost annually due to the common cold million cases of the common cold affect Americans under age 17 each year. One of the most common ways people catch colds is by after touching someone or something that's contaminated with the cold virus Infectious disease accounts for millions of lost school days and cost the U.S. 120 Billion a year. Teacher illness costs time and money - not to mention the negative effects that teacher absences may have on. In fact, teachers can be absent from school more days a year than students. One study found that teacher illness-related absences averaged 5.3 days a year, in contrast to an average of 4.5 days a year for students.

3 Keeping Hands Clean! Keeping hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps we can take to and spreading germs to others. One study involving Detroit school children showed that scheduled handwashing, at least a day, can reduce gastrointestinal illness and related absences by more than 50% A case-control study of 6,080 school children showed that those who used classroom-dispensed, instant hand sanitizers at specific times during the day, in addition to normal hand cleaning habits, experienced fewer absences due to illness. A four-week handwashing program for a class of first grade students was associated with fewer and prescribed antibiotics than were reported the previous school year. Avoid Antibacterial Soaps Consumers don't need to use antibacterial soaps, and some of them may even be, the Food and Drug Administration says. 5 Homemade Hand Soap Ingredients ½ cup Castile Soap, such as: Dr. Bronners ½ cup water (distilled or boiled if you don't plan to use the soap within a few weeks) 1 TB vitamin E oil (Optional) 1 TB nourishing oil, such as: sweet almond, jojoba oil, avocado oil. 15 drops tea tree/melaleuca essential oil 5-10 drops lavender or peppermint essential oil (Or any scent you prefer) Instructions In a mason jar or recycled soap dispenser, add the water first (to prevent bubbles) then the liquid castile soap, followed by the oils. Shake the ingredients together. Shake the soap dispenser before using, then squirt a small amount on your hands as needed, rinsing with water. EASY PEASY!

9 Recipe for Thieves/Protective Blend/Immunity Blend Ingredients: 10 drops rosemary oil 15 drops eucalyptus oil 15 drops peppermint oil 15 drops orange oil 15 drops clove bud oil 10 drops cinnamon bark oil Put it in a clean, glass bottle with an orifice reducer. You can then roll between your hands to blend and you are ready to use! Put 8-10 drops in a diffuser Put 1-2 drops with a carrier oil applied topically (NEVER use without a carrier oil), Add about 30 drops in a glass spray bottle with some white vinegar as a cleaning spray.

10 Cleaning with Essential oils This is a class/webinar that is in my membership site. Use the Thieves/Immunity Blend Recipe in a glass spray bottle to clean surface areas, kitchens, bathrooms etc. I spray down my sink and toilet daily with this blend Send a spray bottle to school to be used to clean desks Add about 30 drops in a glass spray bottle with some white vinegar as a cleaning spray. 11 Rest/Sleep Individuals who have insufficient sleep have higher incidence of. Kids need hours of sleep a night (or more depending on age) Adults need hours of sleep a night One statistic from the website, The Better Sleep Guide, says that people today sleep less than they did 100 years ago. They also state that 30% of the population suffers with insomnia. We need sleep in order for our immunity to be strong and stay healthy Tips for Getting Kids to Sleep! Turn off ALL electronics 1 hour before bedtime and do something soothing and relaxing. Read aloud or listen to a book on tape, hot bath, snuggle. helps relax the body you can take a warm bath with lavender and Epsom salts or take a magnesium supplement at night. Make sure the room is nice and dark (Nightlight optional), and cool. Diffuse some essential oils (next slide) There are some wonderful tinctures you can purchase at PCC or other health food stores that are made just for kids to help them relax and sleep. Be and follow the same routine every night.

12 Essential Oils for Sleep Diffusing this essential oil has been known for many years as a sleep aid. I like to diffuse it at night or you can put 1 drop on your pillow. If you use it topically I add 1 drop of a carrier oil (almond oil etc.) to 1-2 drops of lavender and rub it on my neck and chest. There have been studies showing Lavender as an effective sleep aid. - it has an earthy, woody smell and blends well with Lavender and Roman Chamomile. I usually diffuse it with Lavender for myself and my kids. 4 drops each in the diffuser. (This oil is also good for respiratory support.) this essential oil is known as the Oil of the Night. It helps with nightmares and night terrors. It also helps with restless sleep. I usually mix this with Lavender and distilled water in a glass spray bottle. Then I shake it and let my kids spray their pillows and beds. You can also diffuse it with lavender. this is a sweet, floral oil. It is high in the chemical constituents, Esters, so it is calming and relaxing. In 2015 the Roman Chamomile crop was destroyed by rains and so it isn t available. Personally, I prefer the following chamomile. Love, love, love this essential oil. I have been hooked on this oil ever since I first smelled it. This oil is very high in Esters and is one of the best oils out there for calming, stress and relaxation. Diffuse it or massage it on the back of your neck with a carrier oil.

13 this is an oil that is distilled from the root of the Vetiver plant. It does not smell the best and it is very thick. I would add another oil to it like Lavender. You can rub it into the back of your neck, up and down the spine and if you really can t stand the smell, on the bottoms of your feet. (With a carrier oil of course!) This oil is good for what I call the Monkey Mind. It helps calm racing thoughts and shuts off the brain. this essential oil will help to calm the central nervous system. I add this to a blend I make, Serious Sleep Magic. I roll it on the back of my neck and on my chest. I would add it with another oil as it can be an overpowering oil. this is also called, Lemon Balm. I grow this in my garden. A friend of mine has 2 tiny kids and she will make a tea with the leaves, add some local honey and then make popsicles. The kids love them! It is so good for anxiety and helps calm the central nervous system. I diffused this when I was struggling with Insomnia and it really helped. **Use in a diffuser, never your oils. Begin diffusing about an hour before bedtime to help relax.
