2 International Tour 2019 Information Night - Tues 25 Sept 6-7pm An information session about the 2019 International Band Tour is planned, following the Regional Band Tour performance, for Tuesday 25 Sept 6-7pm. Please note this in your diaries. More details to come. Welcome to our new International Band Tour Committee members! Thank you to our new International Tour Committee members who responded to the call out for volunteers. They are: Linda Leslie, Tracy Darby and Marnie Cooper. Thank you so much! They will join Melissa Webster on the International Tour Committee. Thank you to Humbert Ho A huge thank you to our Vice President,, for all the work he has done to coordinate the organisation of the 2019 International Tour to this point. Humberto will sadly be leaving the BSG at the end of 2018 after many years of service. Regional Tour Band Performance After a very successful tour to Tasmania, the band has an opportunity to showcase their repertoire one more time for friends and family. WHEN: Tuesday 25 September; rehearsal from 3.30pm till 4.30pm and concert from 5pm till 6pm WHERE: MPC Please bring siblings, grandparents, aunties and uncles, neighbours and others to listen to what they have been working on the last couple of months. 3 Regional Tour Band Performance After a very successful tour to Tasmania, the band has an opportunity to showcase their repertoire one more time for friends and family. WHEN: Tuesday 25 September; rehearsal from 3.30pm till 4.30pm and concert from 5pm till 6pm WHERE: MPC Please bring siblings, grandparents, aunties and uncles, neighbours and others to listen to what they have been working on the last couple of months. Looking forward to seeing you all then! There will be no Concert Band rehearsals that night. Manly Jazz All-Stars Three of our Turramurra band members have been selected to play in the invitational high school Manly Jazz All-Stars. This big band will be playing at the Manly Jazz Festival on Monday, October 1 at 11-11:45am. The three Turramurra players are Kieran Rees-Bevan, Luke Bryant and Luke Richards. This is a big honour for these boys, with the Manly Jazz Festival being a major date on the Sydney jazz calendar. Get along to see some great jazz, and support some great local musos. Hearing protection for the band students Jeff Barnsley has shared with the students the importance of hearing protection and an overview of the options available. The option of Earasers happens to be one many professional musicians favour personally. I have simply sought, after seeing a level of interest from students, to seek a bulk discount by purchasing over 10 sets at once. The discount offered is $43 rather than $59, so this is a good proposal. For those students who have stated their wish to purchase a set, please bring the money to rehearsals this week either Tuesday or Friday and give to Jeff. He will then make the order and then pass out the items at subsequent rehearsals. Page 3 of 5

4 THS International Band Tour 2019 Turramurra High School bands will be offering an International Tour at the end of next year, to the USA. The itinerary was planned around the 73rd Annual Chicago Midwest Clinic, a world-renowned big band festival. The tour will visit Washington DC, New York City and Chicago, and activities will include band workshops, performances, concerts and sightseeing, all in the context of the fun of the tour! Tour dates will be December 8-22, We estimate that total cost per head will be between $6500-$7000. Further information and expression of interest forms will be published before the end of term 3, but now is the time to start thinking about whether this is something for you. We will be looking for more volunteers to help organise the tour, so please let one of the band committee know if you are interested. We need you! Our presidents, vice president and secretary will all be completing their terms on the BSG committee this year. If you are interested in taking on one of these rewarding positions and would like to find out more, please either the president or secretary through our contact list at the end of these notes. Our band program would not and could not exist without the parent volunteers so please consider how you can help even share the role! Page 4 of 5
