3 Year in Review: Letter from the Assistant Director The fraternity and sorority community at Winthrop University has had great success and achievements in We welcomed back the Mu Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and added our very first multicultural sorority to Winthrop s community with Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. With these welcomed additions we are now a community of 19 member organizations with over 700 students (15% of undergraduate student population) which is an all-time high for fraternity and sorority life at Winthrop. The students of the fraternal community continue to go above and beyond in serving the campus and local communities. They continue to thrive both in and out of the classroom as well as add overall value to the Winthrop experience. This year has been great to see so many of our groups being recognized at the regional and national levels for all of the hard work they put into their organizations. All of these great achievements were due in large part of the support of our advisors, campus partners, and organizational stakeholders. Of course none of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication our students put into their organizations each year. Some highlights from the year are: The All Fraternity & Sorority GPA has been higher than the All Undergraduate GPA for the last 12 semesters and reached an all-time high in Fall 2016 with a community GPA. 66.3% of Greeks have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Mu Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. came back to campus with 84 new members in Fall 2016 Three students presented two educational sessions at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV)- Central & the National Black Greek Leadership Conference (NBGLC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pi Kappa Phi received the Chapter Award of Distinction from the North-American Interfraternity Conference. Over 85 non-profit organizations and communities were provided service and/or philanthropic dollars Over 75% of the fraternity and sorority community are involved in another organization on campus. 9.1% increase in overall community size 18.7% increase in membership in an academic year As you read through this report, it is my hope that it will allow you to gain insight of the successes and positive contributions these organizations have had on campus as well as local communities this year. Fraternally, Sarah Pankratz 2
