India Vol. V - No. 1 January 2015 Thanksgiving Day Celebrated.The annual Thanksgiving Day was celebrated on 31st January 2015 at the Centre. Mr. Varghese K Daniel, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Trivandrum was the Chief Guest. Prof. Joseph K Alexander, Vice President presided. The Chief Guest, in his keynote address said Worship to God is made complete by service to mankind. The ministry of MGRC is the practical way of worship and service. Mr. K.John, Honorary Director, in his remarks said that success in life is eighty percent attitude and the rest is only twenty percent. There were about 200 people including about 60 clients and their family members, office-bearers, executive committee members, members and well-wishers and staff of MGRC. The clients narrated their experiences and interacted with others. Ten wheel chairs, seven sewing machines, and 24 various other equipment were distributed to the deserving clients. ` Prof. E.Jacob John, one of our members, who completed 70 years was honoured by adorning him with a golden shawl. Prof. D.Mathew, Vice-President welcomed the gathering and Prof. (Dr) Philipose Joshua, Hon.Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. Prof. Jacob John graciously had sponsored the lunch provided to all participants. 2 Page 2 From the Editor s Desk Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. Albert Einstein Albert Einstein, whose name is synonymous for genius was the most influential physicist ever known. He had speech difficulty during his early years. Many world famous people had one or other such problems in life. They all scaled many heights in life despite all these debilitating problems. The other day I watched a young man on a television program. He had lost both the hands below his elbow, in a train accident. It was an amazing fete to watch him playing the drums or the keyboard or doing karate acts despite all the limitations. His face beamed with an indomitable spirit which won the hearts of the entire audience. People with disabilities are rightly called differently abled. Many of our clients are living proof of this fact. Let s not look down on them, rather let s treat them with respect and dignity. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit. 14 Page 14 CBR Program: PMR Field Visit The visit of doctors from the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department, Medical College Hospital, Trivandrum, for this month was conducted in Vellanad Panchayat on 22nd Jan Doctors Chitra, Sindju, and Chinju examined five of our clients who could not otherwise be moved to a hospital. The patients family members were given awareness in taking care of bed-ridden patients. Medicines prescribed were supplied the following day itself. Mr. Faustin M Rajan, Manager (CBR) and Mrs. K.J.Salomy (Community Worker) accompanied the team.

15 Page 15 CBR Program: PMR Field Visit Book Release The twenty first book, entitled Velipadupusthakam oru padtanam, a study on the Book of Revelations written in Malayalam by Prof. D.Mathew, our Vice-President, has been released by H.G. Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Metropolitan by giving a copy to V.Rev.Fr. Alexander Vaidyan Cor Episcopa, Trivandrum Diocesan Secretary, at a function held at the Holy Trinity Chapel, lloor, Trivandrum on 14 January V.Rev.Fr. Joseph Ramban, many priests, friends and family members of Prof D.Mathew were present. The function was organized by the Holy Trinity Prayer Fellowship, to celebrate the 6th birthday of Prof. D.Mathew.

No. 235/83) MGRC tries to bring succor to persons with various types of disabilities such as visually impaired, orthopedically handicapped, hearing impaired and mentally retarded Area of operation consists of six village panchayats around Trivandrum city. Our President H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilose Medical, economic and social rehabilitation service is provided to all deserving persons with disabilities in the area irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. This is a community based rehabilitation work and therefore the beneficiaries live and work in their own homes. Counseling Services rendered Transporting them to hospitals Giving medicines & provisions Arranging surgery, physiotherapy etc. Providing equipment such as artificial limbs, calipers, braces, crutches, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Providing finance to start self-employment schemes like tea shop, vegetable shop, petty shop, tailoring shop, goat rearing etc. & Providing educational assistance to disabled and poor students.
