2 ABOUT US Ashram Charitable Trust was formed and registered in the year The trust is dedicated to provide a better life for underprivileged children mainly special needs and differently abled children The Managing Trustee, Mr.H.Ramakrishnan is a Chartered Accountant, working in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. OUR MISSION The trust is committed to provide shelter, quality food, education and health care for needy children and to work towards their rehabilitation. ABOUT THE CHILDREN S HOME The Trust purchased land in Malumachampatti, about 15 k.ms from Coimbatore city and the construction of Children s Home was completed in the year At present, the children s home is managed by Mr.V.S.Gandhinathan, with 20 years of work experience in the field of Social Work, in coordination with the Managing Trustee. Our home accepts children who are differently abled, parentless, or from socially disadvantaged situation. The home shall accommodate children without bias on Caste, Creed and Religion and work towards their rehabilitation. We provide: Quality services for children with multiple and severe disabilities. Access to education to children in the age group 3-10 through an inclusive curriculum for Children with special needs. Special school, physiotherapy, medical intervention, provision of aids & appliances, speech therapy art & craft, music etc. The Trust helps children with disabilities and complex special needs to realize their potential through education, training, personal development and therapy.

Somasundaram Watchman PHYSIOTHERAPY We have purchased all basic physiotherapy equipments and set up a full physiotherapy unit appropriate for our children. The children are responding well to Physiotherapy given every afternoon by our wellexperienced physiotherapist. SPECIAL SCHOOL We have set up a small classroom for our special needs children and a Special Educator has been employed for this purpose. We are in the process of registering the special school with the Department of District Differently Abled Welfare office Government of Tamilnadu. We have named our special school as Shivalaya Special School. As the number of children increase, we will have a separate building/annex for the school. FIRST PHASE OF THE PROJECT The first child was admitted in June 2012 and at present, we have ten children under our care of whom, nine children have Mental Retardation and Cerebral Palsy, and one child has Down s Syndrome. Appropriate medical tests & screening is done by Specialist Doctors immediately after their admission into our children s home and we strictly follow the advice of doctors. We are careful in giving the children a balanced diet, based on the advice given by the Dieticians of the hospitals, and we have been seeing good progress in the growth of the children within a short time of their admission. We produce organically grown vegetables in our Garden. FUNDING OF THE PROJECT/ DONATIONS / CONTRIBUTIONS The total cost till date is I.Rs.65 Lakhs. The project was fully funded by the Managing Trustee, without any outside contribution, either by cash or kind, from inception until December We have started accepting voluntary contributions by bank transfer only or by Cheque to ashram trust account from January We have decided not to accept donations by cash or kind to maintain internal control. Many well-wishers have donated to support the noble cause of helping special children and our sincere thanks to all of them. All donations are free from the Income-tax under section 80 G (5) (vi) of the Income-tax Act 1961 (We have uploaded a copy of 80G approval in our web site).
