6 Flu Vaccinations 2010 Introduction The WHO (World Health Organisation) has advised that the H1N1 novel influenza strain will be included in the 2010 Seasonal Influenza vaccine. As a result of this decision, there will be a major initiative in New Zealand to use this vaccination as the primary preventative for a likely second wave of the pandemic. The group of people eligible to receive the vaccination has been extended to include: Pregnant Women Healthy children in eligible practices Morbidly Obese Northern Hemisphere experience suggests that pandemic influenza may occur earlier than usual influenza; this may be in mid- to late-march, leading to a peak in late April or early May. Difficulties in producing the 2010 Seasonal Influenza vaccine means delays are possible and there is a real risk that the pandemic may arrive before vaccine protection is in place, putting some New Zealanders at risk of serious illness if they are infected. The Ministry of Health is making a monovalent (single strain) pandemic vaccine available from February, through an early targeted immunisation programme. The Ministry recommends those at highest risk of complications have this monovalent vaccine, followed by the seasonal influenza immunisation when it becomes available. Early immunisation will also be available to frontline healthcare workers, including general practice staff, who want protection. This 2010 Flu Vaccinations update will provide practices with a utility that will enable the practice to identify and flag all those patients that meet the eligibility criteria for the Influenza Vaccinations, and will also provide the necessary Immunisation Schedules, Claiming and Messaging capability for the 2010 Seasonal Influenza Vaccine as well as the H1N1 Monovalent Vaccine. 7 Flu Vaccination 2010 Eligibility Utility The Flu Vaccination 2010 Eligibility Utility will provide practices with the ability to identify and flag all those patients that meet the eligibility criteria for the Influenza Vaccinations and will also include patients aged 65+ years. For all patients who meet the eligibility criteria, a patient alert will be added to the patient s record. This can then be used by the query builder to create lists of patients whom are eligible. Allowing the practice to manage the identified patients however they choose. Either add recalls or create outbox documents for the identified patients. Flu Vacc 2010 Eligibility Alert Utility Utility Miscellaneous Flu Vacc 2010 Eligibility Alert Utility To open the Flu Vacc 2010 Eligibility Alert Utility select the Utility Miscellaneous Flu Vacc 2010 Eligibility Alert Utility menu item. 8 Alerts Setup Patient Register Alerts An alert code FLUE with description Flu Eligibility 2010 will be added to the currently logged on database. The alert code will be inserted when the Flu Vacc 2010 Eligibility Utility is run on any selection other than Remove All Flu Vacc Eligiblity Alerts. If the eligibility utility is run with no selection made the alert will be added to the database with no patient alerts set. If the practice selects the Remove All Flu Vacc Eligibility Alerts option then the new alert code FLUE will be removed from the database. Query Builder Tools Query Builder On installation of this update three saved query builder items will be inserted into the practice database to help with finding eligible patients and can also be used by the practice to create / update recalls or mail merge letters. The three new query builders can be accessed under Query Store Open an Existing Query: #FLU 2010 All Flue Alerts, #FLU 2010 Excluding F65 Recall #FLU 2010 Healthy Eligible Child Copyright Medtech Limited Page 8 of 32

9 Selecting criteria for the Eligibility Alert Utility Settings Tab To enable the utility to identify Morbidly Obese patients the Settings tab must have the Screening Terms used by the system for Height and Weight so that the BMI calculation can be determined using the most recent height and weight values recorded for a patient. The Settings tab should automatically default to the correct values if they can be identified. The defaulted values will be determined by checking the Medical Calculator settings, and if they are in use, then the default will be set using the Medical Calculator setting values. If the values cannot be defaulted from the Medical Calculator settings then the Screening Terms for Height and Weight will be checked and if a match is found then it will default to that Screening term. If the values in the Settings tab are not able to be defaulted then the following message is displayed to the user. Copyright Medtech Limited Page 9 of 32

The utility will also assume that the height is measured in centimetres. The utility will also look at the Weight measurement for the patient. The Weight measurement must have been recorded within last 6 months to be valid. If the patients NIR Status is set to Opt On or Opt Off the NIR Prompt message will not be displayed and the current setting will be used. 29 Diabetes Get Checked II The Diabetes annual review programme for all people with an established diagnosis of diabetes has been supported by Medtech since 2000 by way of a Screening Template. However, in 2003 the evidence-based guideline on which the programme is based was updated and includes a specific guideline for cardiovascular disease (CVD). As a result Medtech32 has been updated to align with new criteria in the guidelines by implementing a new Advanced Form for the Diabetes Get Checked program. This allows the practices to enter the data at the time of the free annual check and forward the data electronically to the PHO. Your PHO may also be using a new database to collect the Get Checked II data from practices. Important Note: Some practices will be using BPAC, Predict or other programmes and therefore please check with your PHO if they wish you to use the Diabetes Get Checked II programme. For further information on the enhancements to Medtech32 the Diabetes Get Checked II program please download and review the Diabetes Get Checked II Release Notes which are available on the Medtech website. If your PHO requires you to take part in the Diabetes Get Checked II program, please also download the Diabetes Get Checked II Update available on the Medtech website. 1. Visit our website at 2. Select New Zealand in region drop down 3. Select menu, Medtech Online Medtech32 Downloads. The New Zealand Medtech32 Updates page will be displayed. 4. 30 Other Items This update also includes a number of other enhancements and issues which have been resolved. Please review the Release Notes below for details on these enhancements and issues. Medication Merge Fields A number of new Medication Merge Fields have been added to the software. The new merge fields can be located under the Merge Symbol Front Page [FRN] filter option. (5 mths) This merge field will provide a list of the patients current medications prescribed in the last 5 months. [FRN_CURRENT_RXS] Patient Current Med. with Dose. This issue has now been resolved and this functionality can now be used with any version of Adobe Reader. Copyright Medtech Limited Page 31 of 32
