4 EDOARDO CAVALLE CANDIDATE for the FDI World Dental Council Written Presentation After more than 25 years, I am ready and motivated to offer all my knowledge, expertise and energy to build the future of the dental profession from today and thus I declare my candidature for the position of FDI Councilor. I had the chance to contribute to the activities of many international professional organizations (World Dental Federation- FDI, European Regional Organization - ERO, Council of European Dentists- CED) and this professional involvement provided me with a deep insight of the PRIORITIES AND MAJOR CHALLENGES of our profession which we have to deal with in the near future. I personally see a lot of new trends, threats and opportunities affecting the dental profession and also the lives of individual practitioners and the patients, and they all need specific consideration, as the FUTURE OF DENTISTRY AND OUR PROFESSION need readiness, well-preparedness and appropriate planning in advance. As a well-known global organization I strongly believe in the future, the role, the mission, and the values of FDI in serving the best interests of public health and the profession and I personally am totally optimistic for the future of our profession and the FDI. In my eyes FDI IS GETTING STRONGER each day, however FDI needs to get even stronger to RESPOND TO THE CHANGING NEEDS AND DEMANDS of the patients and the public. For this purpose, it is important for FDI to bridge theory, research and practice, guide and assist dental practitioners and support the National Dental Associations by every means, and become a more dynamic and fast responding organization to the matters and issues related to oral health, general health and the dental profession. I do not see FDI's role just as an organization restricted to oral health as it has the potential to become a powerful GLOBAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION. FDI has to have a word to say when it comes to improving the quality of oral health care globally and increase the access to oral health care for all-in-need. Since noncommunicable diseases issue is getting more and more important: dental professionals now are improving

5 2. their role and responsibility in the holistic approach view of prevention and care. Thus, a standing COLLABORATION with all stakeholders will be more crucial than ever before. There has always been a need for FDI GUIDANCE, from the first day that it was established, I believe that this need will increasingly be present for the young dentists in the future, as I learned myself as a young dentist attending the Annual World Dental Congresses. I strongly believe that FDI can achieve all its goals through active team-work, clear strategic plans and good planning. African Proverb: If you run to win, run alone. If you run to get far away, run together. So let accept the challenge and let us RUN TOGETHER TOWARD THE FUTURE.
