1 ACALANES UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT Adopted: 12/15/04 PHYSICAL EDUCATION Subject Area COURSE TITLE: COURSE CODE: Weight Training P0615N GRADE LEVEL: Grades COURSE LENGTH: One Semester PREREQUISITE: Successful Completion of Physical Education 9 and 10 CREDIT: UC/CSU CREDIT: 5 Units (May be repeated for credit up to 20 units) None GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: Fulfills 5 units of elective credit for graduation STANDARDS AND BENCHMARKS: PHYSICAL EDUCATION: 1: 1.11/12.1, 1.11/12.2; 2: 2.11/12.1; 3: 3.11/12.1, 3.11/12.4; 4: 4.11/12.2, 5: COURSE DESCRIPTION: In Weight Training, students will learn the fundamentals of weight training with emphasis on body development and maintenance as well as safety factors involved in strength conditioning. COURSE GOALS: TEXTBOOK MATERIALS: The student will: 1. Develop motor skills and understand the fundamentals of movement by practicing and analyzing movement. 2. Develop levels of skill-related fitness through weight training. 3. Develop knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of major muscles. 4. 2 1.0 STUDENT USES A VARIETY OF BASIC AND ADVANCED MOVEMENT SKILLS. 1.11/12.1 Uses advanced sport-specific skills such as: a. Bench press b. Squarts c. Leg curls d. Power cleans e. Plyometrics % of 2.0 STUDENT UNDERSTANDS MOVEMENT CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND ENHANCEMENT OF MOTOR SKILLS. 2.11/12.1 Understands biomechanical concepts that govern different types of movement. Proper lifting techniques knowledge Importance of warm-up (muscle elasticity) Anatomy of muscles and physiology of muscles /12.1 Assessment 10% of 3.0 STUDENT KNOWS HOW TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN A HEALTH-ENHANCING LEVEL OF PHYSICAL FITNESS. 3.0 Assessment 30% of Page 2 of 5
