1 Āyurvedic Practitiner: Educatinal Outline fr Cmpetency The Āyurvedic Practitiner is a prfessinal with additinal training in pathlgy and disease management beynd that f the Ayurvedic Health Cunselr. These prfessinals als practice preventive healthcare and health prmtin, using diet and lifestyle. (The recmmended hurly range f training fr this categry is hurs). Prerequisite: 6 credits f cllege level anatmy & physilgy. Nte: a cllege level credit is defined as 15 cntact hurs per credit unit. This is a standard seen at mst universities/clleges that run n a semester schedule. It is als in agreement with the federal definitin f a credit hur. SECTION 1: FOUNDATION OF ĀYURVEDA NAMA Scpe Descriptin: The practitiner has a strng understanding f the histry, philsphy, fundamental principles and basic vcabulary f Āyurveda. Understands Definitin f Āyurveda, Histry f Āyurveda, Aṣṭāṅga Āyurveda (eight branches f Ayurveda), Bṛhat trayī (three primary texts f Ayurveda), Laghu trayī (three secndary texts f Ayurveda) Understands Sāṁkhya Philsphy - Prakṛti (primrdial nature), Puruṣa (eternal cause) - Mahat (causative Intelligence) - Ahaṁkāra (eg Principle) - Manas (mind) - Pañca tanmātras (five subtle elements) - Pañca jñānendriyas (five sense rgans) - Pañca karmendriyas (five rgans f actin) - Pañca mahābhūtas (five grss elements) - Relatinship f jñānendriyas (five sense rgans), karmendriyas (five rgans f actin), tanmātras (five subtle elements) and mahābhūtas (five grss elements) SECTION 2: CONCEPTS OF ĀYURVEDA Twenty Qualities (Guṇas) NAMA Scpe Descriptin: The practitiner has skills and cmpetence in determining which guṇas (qualities) are predminant in prakṛti (individual cnstitutin) and vikṛti (pathlgical cnditin) and demnstrates the fllwing abilities: T determine the rle and influence f the 10 pairs (r 20 ttal) f ppsing qualities (gurvādi guṇas) in the prakṛti (individual cnstitutin) and vikṛti (pathlgical cnditin) thrugh the data received frm the histry and examinatin f the client. 1
