Brought you up to date with the work to set up a network of families to support the children and young people s programme Explored (and hopefully agreed) what the key features of good partnership working are Identified and shared what is working well and what is not working so well in our local area (with the aim of using this as the framework for a briefing document; Personal Budgets developing genuine and meaningful partnerships with families ) Given you the space to create the beginnings of a plan to take back to your local area that will help you do an even better job of working in partnership with families Agreed some commitments from you all.!!2

4 Network of families to support the programme Held an event on 12 th September 2013 in Birmingham, attended by 26 families from member sites..!4

6 Network of families to support the programme Now have the beginnings of an network with families receiving information directly from In Control Looked at families vision for the future, what s working their local areas and what s driving them crazy!6

7 Families vision for the future. not having to fight embracing the spirit of personal budgets choice not illusory Parents carefree happy parents respect for parents parent participation no judgments, no assumptions real/genuine parental control of how resources/funding is spent on our children - requires genuine cultural change by providers and commissioners Properly funded parent/carer forums and recognition by the Local Authority of their value Easy access to information for parents, carers and young people!7

9 Key features of great partnership working Families said: Active members of decision making processes and involved from the start Trusted and empowered Families leading and taking responsibilities for pieces of work; designing and delivering training, working as support planners and brokers etc Everyone having high expectations of what s possible Part of the decisions about how money is spent - so the BIG decisions, not just the little things Feel and know I am valued as an equal partner Listening - really listening to my point of view and my experience, this really is how it is for me and my child Clear, accessible honest information!9

13 Why isn t it like that everywhere? the challenges! On your tables, think about why things are like these visions. What what gets in the way and what stops us? What stops our head? (knowledge or beliefs) What stops our heart? (feelings) What stops our feet? (practicalities)!13

We will use your, things we are doing or doing well examples in the Briefing so please do make sure we have a contact to follow up things we are not doing that we need to start doing things we are doing that we need to stop things we are doing or doing well already that we need to get even better at or do more of!
