PCAE newsletter will be issued on a monthly basis from now on. This edition of the newsletter includes the various programs & events that PCAE is planning to run and also a list of completed programs in the past month. Here is what you will see... Get PCAE Membership Due to the generous contributions of our community, we raised over $22,000 for brother Amjad Ali Shah Bukhari's family Assistance. May Allah reward you all for this. Aameen Account balance on July 10, 2018: $101, (includes matching grant of $71,000 for Kitchen) Account balance on September 12, 2018: $97, The Grant amount is not available until we are able to raise the matching portion. As of Sept 12, 2018 accessible fund: $26,946.97

2 2 of 8 9/29/2018, 2:29 AM During the month of July and August our focus was on Heritage Days. There were a lot of learnings especially on cost and the event management overall. Having said, I would like to congratulate the entire community that we were able to run a profit for Heritage 2018 event!!! The gross revenue collected for the Heritage event came to $58,614, whereas Net Revenue just from the food ticket sales came to $39, This was highest revenue earned during the last three years (2017: $28,247; 2016: $34,381.55). We do not have the detail on expenses incurred form the prior years so comparison at Profit level would be inconclusive. The financial statement for the 2018 event is listed towards the end of the Treasurer report. We were also able to conduct fund raising campaign drive. The amount that was raised has been transferred to the beneficiary. During August, Pakistan day was celebrated at the PCAE hall. Event saw a huge turnout and given the positive health of our Financials this is a matter of pride for all of us that entire event was self funded without the need of external sponsorship or funding. We were also able to transfer $10,000 from our account toward the matching grant funding portion. This financial management is necessary to be able to use the over $70K in grant we have received through the government.

5 5 of 8 9/29/2018, 2:29 AM Dan Grewal from the Ministry of Senior Services provided a general information session on the Alberta senior benefits program process and eligibility, dental and optical assistance as well as special needs assistance seniors can apply for upon turning 65. As well he discussed home ownership and the programs available for seniors protection from contractors. The ministry of senior services looks forward to working with PCAE to provide specific topic workshops as well as train volunteers to help seniors fill forms and applications. PCAE is arranging a 3 hr training session to have in house services provided to Seniors as well as provide future sessions on topics which are needed. Please contact Arshed Mahmood : arshed@ualberta.ca for feed back and comments. PCAE hosted and organized a youth open house with the help of dedicated community volunteers. Volunteers facilitated the session by encouraging conversations, asking questions and drawing up situations to stimulate thinking which helped generate ideas for the brainstorming session. Also in attendance was the MLA for Edmonton Ellerslie (an active member of Edmonton s Southside community), Rod Loyola, who took the time out to socialize with the youth.

6 PCAE Newsletter - September 2018 Edition 6 of 8 Subscribe Past Issues Translate RSS PCAE Executives arranged a beautiful event to celebrate Jashn e Azadi Celebration on Saturday August 18. This was an open air event, first of its kind in Edmonton which was enjoyed by over 1500 Pakistanis who attended it. It started off with free Bbq burgers and hotdogs for all. Local talent showcased a fashion show. There was Question/Answer session with prizes. Heritage volunteers got appreciation certificates handed out to them. PCAE Executives, respected dignitaries and senior respected members of PCAE performed the flag raising ceremony. Maulana sahib did Quran recitation and prayer for Pakistan. The evening ended with an amazing concert by "34th Ave band led by Farasat Khan. Special thanks to all the Volunteers for their contribution towards making this event a huge success. 9/29/2018, 2:29 AM
