1 OCTOBER 2008 NEWSLETTER Kenmore Community Club, Inc. P.O. Box 82171, Kenmore, WA ON THE WEB: Message Phone Remember, take a moment, say a prayer, and thank our Men and Women in uniform who are serving around the world to protect our freedom. Club Officers and Trustees: L. G. Bud Eaton, President Marty Askelson, Vice President Angela LaTourette, Secretary Kathi Straw, Treasurer Don Ivanhoe, Trustee Sheri Baker, Trustee Les Straw, Trustee Ed Straw, Past President Trustee Annette Eaton, Club Manager Don Ivanhoe, Newsletter Editor OKTOBERFEST Potluck Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 6:30 PM KENMORE COMMUNITY CLUB Arrive around 6:30 P.M. to help set up for the potluck and a little social conversation. You are cordially invited to the October Potluck. Think Oktoberfest in your dish selection for the potluck dish to share. SEPTEMBER ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE DRAWING And the September winner of the $5.00 would have been Susan Huck, but we could not find her in the building or on the grounds, so the October drawing will be for $ Good luck to one and all THANK YOU Thanks to Annette Eaton and her crew for the awesome pancake breakfast in September. It has become a great tradition for our club members and the Kenmore community. We are grateful for the donations received throughout the year, and as we are not a charitable organization for tax purposes, all donations to the Kenmore Community Club are currently not tax deductible under IRS code 501 C4, however they are used to improve our facilities and operations. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Please take note of the meeting agenda toward the end of your newsletter. If you heard a rumor of the potluck being cancelled or moved to a different date, it is not happening and we will explain at the potluck on Wednesday October 8th how it got started. Thank you to Mayor David Baker and Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Milton Curtis. for visiting with us in their official capacity and sharing with the club some of the city plans and answering questions from members about what is happening at city hall. I want to thank Roland Lindstrom for chairing the 2008 Nominations Committee and Karen Spencer and Bev Peterson for serving as committee members. Congratulations to the Andy Knight family. They were the winners of the flag garden stone door prize at the Pancake Breakfast. Lest we forget, thanks to Marty Askelson for his creativity in making the garden stones each year. We are investigating and exploring a project to refurbish the roll down screen over the stage area. The restorer told us that the screen is in good shape for 60 years old, considering how many times it has rolled up and down. The plan is to get bids on all repair work and submit for a grant through 4Culture, a King County History Organization responsible to preserve history in King County. The Kenmore Heritage Society also is considering providing some funds. We will keep members advised of the progress of this project. Another reminder, November is near and we must start thinking of election of officers. I encourage you to get involved and become more of a participant. Think you might be interested? -LGE Kenmore Community Club Newsletter, October, 2008 Page 1
