Involvement: 1 meeting per year? Payment: only direct costs. First meeting to start November 10-11, The Scientific Advisory Board has the following tasks: 1. Advising the management of the Federal Research Institute during the research and development planning activities. 2. It supports the link between the Federal Research Institute and the scientists and research facilities working in the same or similar fields in Germany and abroad. 3. It supports the Federal Research Institute during the further development of its research programme while considering current research activities of other research facilities. 4. It verifies the research, advisory and support services of the individual scientific organisational units by using among other things indicators in coordination with the management of the Federal Research Institute. Any findings and recommendations will be laid down in the protocol. 5. It makes statements regarding other important matters of the Federal Research Institute. I regularly report on progression to MinVWS. As of March 2011 the NL Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports has agreed that Hans Verhagen of RIVM is "agenda member" of the scientific committee for establishing the scientific criteria of the IKB logo, The IKB foundation now also comprises Albert Heijn as a member, as a sequel to a movement towards one logo in the NL. Time involvement: estimated 100 hours per year. Payment: none (time paid by NL ministry of health) Member of scientific evaluation commmittee proposals in teh area of "food cognition and behaviour". The RIVM is an agency falling under the NL Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports (MinVWS). The RIVM provides research and service for the MinVWS as well as for the NL Food Safety Authority (VWA) as well as other public domain bodies such as EU and WHO. The centre for Nutrition and Health is a.o. involved with topics like food consumption, food composition, health and nutrition claims, food fortification, novel foods, risk-benefit etc. See also: and subpages. 3 V. Occasional consultancy NO INTEREST VI. Research funding 05/ /2013 -Name: Health Grain Netherlands Health Grain Netherlands is the national successor of the EU project Health Grain. This Netherlands activity is a combination of public and private partners (associations) aiming to get funding in order to do research and convey health messages on whole grain. No projects are running to date. Percentage of private funding reveived: 0 (nil). There is no formal ending of thsi activity. It just fades out. Last is from March So closure December 2013 is appropriate. 09/ /2013 -Name: BRAFO BRAFO = benefit risk analysis of foods ( ). Member of steering committee; WP5 leader; contributing to other WP's. co-author of several papers from this project. (EU funded project coordinated by ILSI Europe). Without such sponsoring these scientific meetings are not possible. I only go to meetings that are in the public domain (viz no scientific meetings in closed environments). I also only go to meetings to lecture if such meetings have no commercial goal (which is in conformity with my role as a civil servant at the Minstry of Health, Welfare and Sports). Meetings/conferences in 2012 include a.o.: an internet workshop on 5 March on fortification in Africa (with the African Nutrition Society, Unilever, WHO, UNICEF, GAIN, USAID, African governments etc).
