4 Keynote Presenters Professor Claire Wakefield is a Professor in the Discipline of Paediatrics, School of Women's & Children's Health, UNSW Medicine Claire Wakefield is a Professor at UNSW Sydney. She leads the Behavioural Sciences Unit, which is based at the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children s Hospital. Prof Wakefield s research aims to address the needs of families of children with cancer. Her focus is on developing strategies to prevent poor mental health in those most at risk. Professor Wakefield is Chief Investigator on grants worth over $27M and has more than 130 publications. She holds several key leadership roles, including being Chair of the Paediatrics Special Interest Group for the International Psycho-Oncology Society. She is a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK. Dr Haryana Dhillon (BSc MA PhD) is a Senior Research Fellow, School of Psychology at the University of Sydney. She is the Director of the Centre for Medical Psychology and Evidence-based decision-making, and co-leads the Survivorship Research Group within that Centre. Haryana is on the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Board, and former Chair of the Survivorship group of COSA. She is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Psycho-Oncology Cooperative Research Group, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committees of the Australasian Lung Trials Group and the Australia New Zealand Urogenitary Trials Group. Her research interests are primarily in the area of psycho-oncology, cancer survivorship, and health literacy. She led the development and piloting of Rekindle, an online psychoeducational intervention for cancer survivors & partners.

5 Presenters Dr Joanna Fardell is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Discipline of Paediatrics, School of Women s & Children s Health, UNSW Medicine Joanna Fardell is a post-doctoral researcher with the Behavioural Sciences Unit at the University of NSW. Joanna leads research projects investigating the impact of cancer during childhood on social cognitive outcomes and educational outcomes of childhood cancer survivors. Her research aims to identify at risk children and ultimately prevent poor social cognitive outcomes in survivors of childhood cancer. Dr Janine Vetsch is an early-career Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Janine holds a Master of Biomedical Science and a PhD in Health Sciences/Health Policy. Her PhD assessed childhood cancer survivors and parents information needs, follow-up care practices and preferences for the organisation of follow-up care. In her current role, Dr Vetsch leads a program of research investigating psychosocial impacts of personalised medicine in childhood cancer patients. Her focus is on families hopes, expectations and attitudes toward being enrolled in a personalised medicine trial for high-risk childhood cancer patients. Her research aims to better understand families needs and to develop educational resources.

6 Dr Kate Hetherington, B. Science Psyc (Hons), M. Psyc (Clinical), PhD. Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Kate is a Clinical Psychologist and Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Behavioural Sciences Unit in the School of Women and Children s Health, UNSW. Kate completed both her Masters of Psychology (Clinical) and PhD in the School of Psychology at UNSW. Kate s doctoral research investigated psychological mechanisms involved in the onset and maintenance of depressed mood, with a particular focus on repetitive thinking. Kate has experience in a variety of clinical and research settings. She is particularly interested in understanding the psychological impacts of cancer on children and their parents, and the development of interventions and supports to ameliorate its negative impacts. Dr Toni Lindsay, Clinical Psychologist at Sydney Cancer Centre/RPA Hospital Dr Toni Lindsay is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Allied Health Manager working in the Psycho-Oncology Service at Chris O Brien Lifehouse in Sydney Australia. She has held this position for the past 9 years, following the completion of her Professional Doctorate in Clinical and Health Psychology in Dr Lindsay has a specific interest in the management of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Patients, and is the chair of the Multidisciplinary Team Meeting for AYA Patients within the hospital, and she has published a book titled Cancer, Sex, Drugs and Death around the management of these patients in One of her main interests is around the impact of working in oncology on health professionals and strategies to help manage this.

7 Brittany McGill has a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours I), Master of Psychology (Clinical), Registered Clinical Psychologist Brittany McGill is a Research Fellow in the Behavioural Sciences Unit at the School of Women's & Children's Health. Brittany completed a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at the University of Sydney and Masters of Clinical Psychology at the University of New South Wales. The focus of her research and clinical work is helping families and young people navigate the emotional and physical challenges often faced during and after cancer treatment. Brittany is a facilitator for the "Recapture Life" and "Cascade" online groups which were developed to support young cancer survivors and parents of childhood cancer survivors in the period after treatment. Christina Signorelli is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales Christina Signorelli is a researcher at the Behavioural Sciences Unit, Kids Cancer Centre. Her research interests surround the issues childhood cancer survivors face, models of long-term survivorship care, and ehealth. She was recently awarded the 2017 AFGW Barbara Hale Fellowship and MASCC/ISOO Young Investigator Award for her research.

8 Holly Evans, Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) Holly Evans is a PhD Candidate in the School of Psychology, and a research officer in the Behavioural Sciences Unit, School of Women s and Children s Health, UNSW. Many adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer will survive their disease, but when cure is not possible patients, families and healthcare professionals need to consider psychosocial needs and goals at endof-life. Conversations about death can be distressing, but addressing end-of-life topics in a developmentally appropriate way and at the right time is critical for AYAs with incurable disease. Her PhD aims to investigate how young people engage with death and end-of-life topics, and determine their preferences for care and communication in terminal illness. Clarissa Schilstra, UNSW School of Women's and Children's Health Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, Duke University Clarissa works as a research assistant with the Behavioural Sciences Unit, proudly supported by the Kids with Cancer Foundation, in the Kids Cancer Centre, at Sydney Children's Hospital. Clarissa is very passionate about helping AYA patients and survivors become knowledgeable self-advocates. It is her goal to become a clinical psychologist and help adolescents and young adults with serious illnesses cope with the social and emotional challenges presented by their illnesses. As a cancer survivor, Clarissa has authored the book Riding the Cancer Coaster: Survival Guide for Teens and Young Adults.

9 John Friedsam, General Manager of Divisions at Canteen Australia For the past 14 years, John has specialised in psychooncology service provision and management. John is passionate about developing and delivering evidence-based, sustainable supportive care, counselling and group work services to cancer patients and their families. John s work has concentrated on the impact of cancer on families, cancer communications and familial adjustment to cancer most recently on adolescents and young adults who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis or that of a family member, or are bereaved due to a cancer-related death. Professor John Boyages, Director and Professor of Breast Oncology at the Macquarie University Cancer Institute. Prof John Boyages is a cancer specialist with over 35 years experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. He is Professor of Breast Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University in Sydney and Director of the Australian Lymphoedema Education Research and Treatment (ALERT) centre at Macquarie University. After graduating from the University of Sydney, John trained at Westmead Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute with Professor Jay Harris in Boston. John has published more than 140 research and clinical articles. John is a radiation oncologist at Genesis Cancer Care at the Macquarie University Hospital and consults with patients all over Australia. He is the author of the Taking Control series of books Breast Cancer, DCIS and Male Breast Cancer and has also published Clinical Breast Examination: Taking Control (a DVD for health professionals). John is a regular invitee to public and medical forums and loves imparting knowledge to patients and their families.

10 Carolyn Mazariego, Bachelor of Health Science (hons), Masters of International Public Health Carolyn Mazariego completed her Masters of International Public Health at the University of Sydney in She is the Senior Research Assistant and PhD candidate on the NSW Prostate Cancer Care and Outcomes Study at Cancer Council NSW. Centered around the concept of prostate cancer survivorship, her research uses the NSW Prostate Cancer Care and Outcomes Study to evaluate the long-term outcomes of a prostate cancer diagnosis. Kim Hobbs, Clinical Specialist Social Worker, Department of Social Work/Department of Gynaecological Cancer, Westmead Hospital Kim Hobbs holds a Masters degree in Social Work and has a long career in oncology social work. Building upon a solid base of clinical care, Kim advocates for improved psychosocial support services for all people with cancer and their families, friends and caregivers. She believes that psychosocial care should be an integral component of comprehensive cancer care for throughout treatment and recovery. Kim has been involved in the development of educational resources for both clinicians and consumers, and has a particular interest in addressing concerns about sexuality and intimacy in the context of illness and disability.

11 Paula Macleod, Masters in Nursing (Oncology) Paula Macleod has been a registered nurse for thirty years working in variety of different roles, the last 8 years in oncology as the Head, Neck and Thyroid Cancer Nurse Coordinator. Having completed her Masters in Nursing (Oncology specialisation) last year, her special interests include education, pain management in the oncology setting and survivorship. A focus area for Paula is how to ensure a multidisciplinary team approach to care and so provide a seamless cancer journey for the patient. Mick Miller, a coach to the stars Mick Miller had an incredible career coaching some of Australia s top athletes. But after a close call with throat and neck cancer in 2013 he put most of that aside, packed his blender into a 1968 sky blue Volkswagen Beetle called 'The Rocket' and set off on a journey of discovery and recovery around Australia. As a Cancer Survivor Mick has some personal insights to share.

12 Tracey Newnham is an artist, illustrator, author, art teacher and designer. When caring for her two young boys and partner throughout his cancer journey, she recognised the need for a resource to assist families experiencing such an overwhelming time. In the Rainbow encourages adults and children to speak up, reach out, love and support each other in a safe space. It enables difficult conversations to open up and provides tools to build resilience, hope, faith and connection. This sincere story educates us all about the real emotions shared during illness and grief. Maxine Rosenfield, Counsellor and Supervisor, BSc., Grad Dip Counselling, Dip Training and Learning Development CMPACFA, CMBACP Maxine has over 20 years experience as a counsellor, supervisor, trainer, author and consultant with wide experience of working across a variety of organisations from hospitals and large non-governmental organisations to small volunteer based organisations and private corporations. Maxine has written a number of cancer and self-help information brochures and co-wrote Cancer At Your Fingertips and Breast Cancer Answers At Your Fingertips. She pioneered telephone counselling in the UK and wrote Counselling by Telephone and Telephone Counselling: A Handbook for Practitioners. Maxine is a founder member of the Cancer Counselling Professionals Association and a board member of the Australasian Association for Supervision.

13 Beth Ivimey, Cancer Nurse Coordinator at Bankstown Hospital and is the Survivorship Clinic Nurse Coordinator at Liverpool Hospital Beth is an experienced oncology nurse with a particular passion for thoracic oncology and cancer nurse coordination. Beth has been an invited speaker and discussant at national and international oncology conferences. Beth is the Cancer Nurse Coordinator at Bankstown Hospital & is the Survivorship Clinic Nurse Coordinator at Liverpool Hospital.
