3 SUNDAY MARCH 31 Around the Bay Around the Bay is the longest standing road race in North America it was established before the Boston Marathon and is celebrating its 125th year in! Since 2005, St. Joseph s has been its charity partner, helping to grow the event, which now sees 10,000 participants and an estimated 45,000 spectators! St. Joseph s and its patients have benefitted from fundraising contributions of participants. Last year $527K was raised, with a cumulative total of over $ 3.8 Million! The most significant portion of that fundraising comes from teams, and we would like to invite you to enter a fundraising team. Groups that participate in Around the Bay regularly share that it is a remarkable team-building experience, an excellent health and wellness opportunity, and a great way to demonstrate a commitment to the community they serve. 4 Paris to Ancaster: A Ride for Research St. Joe s is back as Paris to Ancaster s official charity partner in Coined a Ride for Research, participants will be encouraged to fundraise in support of the groundbreaking research that takes place at our hospital. SUNDAY APRIL 28 Every day at St. Joseph s over 500 scientists, students, and staff are working to change the way diseases are diagnosed and treated. The ultimate goal improve the health of our patients and the wider community. Building Canada s research capacity relies on the infrastructure of research programs and on our ability to train the next generation of research stars. Research at St. Joseph s has helped improve patient care around the world for the past 50 years. The SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Run for Women brings awareness and raises money for women s mental health programs in local communities while advocating the general positive effects of exercise on mental health wellness. Studies 1 have shown that women are three times more likely than men to suffer from depression. Research also indicates that one in four women will experience some form of depression in their lifetime. With millions of women bravely facing mental health challenges every day, we need to come together to create a positive impact women while using exercise to manage your own general mental health wellness. 7 A Mental Health Morning is a breakfast to support the mental health and addiction program at St. Joseph s Healthcare Hamilton. Through this event, we aim to build awareness of the prevalence of mental health issues and substance abuse in our region. Our goal is to reduce the stigma that is still too often associated with mental health and addiction and to support the programs and services at our new West 5th Campus (listed right). The event is one of the Foundation s signature fundraising events and attracts over 400 of Hamilton s community and business leaders. With previous themes including Escape to the UK, Rio Carnival, An Evening in Venice and Grand Central Express, the event promises to be elegant, fun and create a buzz in our community. Most importantly, your support will allow us to raise funds to purchase life-saving equipment and fund ground-breaking research at our Hospital. Hospital Renewal Dialysis & Cardiology: As our population expands, our Hospital is serving more patients than ever before. We can respond to the growing need for care by making sure our facilities are up to date. Currently we re planning redevelopment projects for: The Charlton Dialysis Centre to provide the more than 300 patients we serve with private treatment bays and their families with comfortable waiting areas. An Integrated Cardiology Service to bring our cardiology diagnostics, services and programs together. Your generosity ensures we have needed funds to expand and enhance our Hospital. Vital Equipment: Whether we re in need of specialized instruments to operate our surgical robot or a new x-ray or ultrasound machine in Diagnostic Imaging, equipment is essential to everything we do. But with regular wear and tear and technological advancements, our tools often need to be repaired or replaced. Supporting vital equipment has the power to improve care, enhance the treatments we provide and help patients get better, sooner. Mental Health & Addiction Care: In Canada, 1 in 4 individuals will experience a mental illness or addiction in their lifetime, and each and every one of us will be touched by it in some way. St. Joe s is the regional lead in mental health care and a trusted place our community turns to when they need these services most. With your help, we re planning to expand our services for youth mental health, emergency psychiatry, and short stay care for mental health crises. When you support mental health and addiction services, you re helping us deliver compassionate care in a stigma-free environment. Research: St. Joe s is an academic research hospital with more than 500 clinicians, scientists, students, and staff working on essential healthcare research. They re bringing us one step closer to discovering new treatments and even cures that may one day benefit patients all over the world.
