2 For more than 40 years, people have turned to Call for Help when they face crisis and hardship. Today, Call for Help focuses on four distinct areas of need with quality programs that make a difference: Equipping homeless young mothers with skills and support to live independently; Responding 24 hours a day to victims of sexual assault, providing counseling to adult and child victims, and educating the community in sexual assault awareness; Preparing homeless adults with mental illness to live successfully in the community; and Connecting families and individuals with assistance for rent, utilities and other essentials. Our programs help people make permanent changes so they can break the cycles of homelessness and mental illness and heal from trauma. I invite you to visit our campus to see first-hand how we empower people to change their lives for the better, and find out how you can get involved. HeartLands Conservancy, the oldest and largest conservation and environmental organization in Southwestern Illinois, serves as a reasoned voice in conservation, striving to balance resource protection with the continued growth of the region. Our organization focuses on improving the place we live, work and play by investing in conserving land, building greener communities and engaging individuals and communities with nature. HeartLands Conservancy has successfully protected more than 5,000 acres of land, much of which is now open to the public, and more than $25 million dollars has been invested in seven counties in Southwestern Illinois. Our focus remains on keeping our lands a productive place of beauty. Working together so generations to come can inherit air, land and water we ve spent years protecting that is our future and, with your help, we can make a difference. Join us by investing in the nature of Southwestern Illinois. David C. Eustis President and CEO HeartLands Conservancy Hospice of Southern Illinois has provided hospice services for a number of my family members. While each hospice experienced was unique, the professionalism and care given was consistently excellent. Hospice of Southern Illinois is a not-for-profit hospice serving the people of this community for over 30 years. Part of that service includes the commitment to operate a beautiful, state-of-the-art hospice home. This home, named Relais Bonne Eau, located in Edwardsville, IL was built so that people who need hospice care would have a place to call home. I have been so touched by the end-of- life care provided by Hospice of Southern Illinois that I have chosen to be a volunteer for over 15 years. I currently work with Facility Dog, Magnum, who provides unconditional love to patients and their families. Hospice is a choice. My hospice of choice is Hospice of Southern Illinois. To become a trained volunteer, support one of the community fundraising events, or to donate in support of patient care and programs, please call for more information. In partnership with the YMCA, we sponsor an annual summer camp program. Partnering with the East St Louis Community fund, the Foundation provides summer volleyball, basketball, track and field and swimming recreational programs for boys and girls at the JJK Center and other East St. Louis locations. It provides men and their families with support during periods of need. Through individual, group and fathering skills discussions, men can share their feelings, explore options and set goals for themselves and their families. In an atmosphere of encouragement and respect, men begin to turn their lives around and make financial adjustments in order to support their children. Job coaching, employment preparation, computer training and employment searching services are all an important part of the Fathers Center. Staff members help men identify their strengths and interests and direct them to vocations that will enable them to be successful and support their families. 4 Construction of Memorial Hospital East, a 94-bed, $124 million hospital in Shiloh, Illinois is on schedule with the anticipated opening in April Memorial East will have all private patient suites, an emergency department, diagnostic services including imaging and cardiac catheterization, and intensive care unit. The hospital also will feature a Family Care Birthing Center as well as inpatient and outpatient surgical services. When plans to build Memorial were approved by the Illinois Health Services and Facilities Review Board in 2011, it was one of just two new hospitals approved by the state in more than 20 years. The completion of Memorial Hospital East in 2016 will pave the way to create 216 all private patient suites at Memorial s main campus in Belleville. Our patients expect more privacy, said Anne Thomure, Memorial Foundation s executive director. Research has shown that private rooms make people happier and healthier which promote the healing process. Memorial is a hospital of, by and for the community. Its rich history is rooted in dedicated community, business and church leaders who worked together raising funds decades ago to make Memorial a reality. Memorial Foundation invites you to invest in the future of our region by making a charitable contribution to Progress Rooted In Tradition the Capital Campaign for Memorial. A variety of named gift opportunities exist at both Memorial Hospital East and at the Belleville campus. Pledges can be made for up to five years. For more information about Progress Rooted In Tradition, call the Foundation Office at or go to where you also can watch the construction progress at Memorial Hospital East. St. John s Community Care is an outreach ministry of St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ in Collinsville. St. John s is able to reach out to families struggling alone to offer hope. We care for people who have given so much to our communities, we feel the right thing to do is to help them to live out their lives with dignity and respect. St. John s strives to make a positive difference in the lives of older and disabled adults through direct services that include non-medical inhome care; adult day programs in Collinsville and Edwardsville; Alzheimer s support group; medical equipment loans, education and outreach. Rich Skelton, Past Board Member & Active Volunteer Sherry Skelton, Board Member St. John s Community Care To learn more or to make a donation visit My prayers were answered when I was referred to St. John s Community Care. I had to find home care for my mentally challenged brother. I had a full time job. I tried several other home care facilities before St. John s and they did not work out. The day I met the caregiver director from St. John s I knew it was the one. I have been using St. John s for home care for over 12 years. They have made my life so much easier and my brother continues to be happy with their care. In 2011 my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer s. It was determined that he could stay at home but needed to attend a day program to keep his mind active. St. John s was there to help me again. He enjoys the activities and seeing all the friends he has made since joining the group. In addition to the care services, they also provide me with additional resources that give me more balance and hope. I cannot say enough great things about St. John s Community Care and all their services. It is like being part of a caring and loving family. Barbara Highlander

5 At the Y, we work to nurture the children, teens, adults and families of our communities. The Y promotes healthy living, youth development and social responsibility through programs that build a strong spirit, mind and body. The impact of the Y is shown when a teen makes a healthy choice, a mentor inspires a child, a senior connects with his peers, and when the community of Y members, volunteers and staff unite for the common good. Please, help us accomplish the Y s mission by connecting with the Y through your volunteered time, talents, and financial support of the Y s charitable works. At the Y, no one is turned away because of an inability to pay. For communities to flourish everyone must have an opportunity to be healthy, confident, secure and connected. Get Connected Today!
