2 Our Time of Giving We are so blessed to be able to share our gifts with others. During the next few weeks, we are focusing on helping others through giving. We hope that you will be able to join us in our giving campaign. Beta Club will sponsor Operation Shoebox to benefit Ave Maria Home. A shoebox of personal items will be filled and decorated; these boxes will be delivered to residents of the Ave Maria Home. The Beta Club will give students in each homeroom a specific item to collect prior to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving food collection-students are asked to bring a canned good to Mass on Tuesday, November 25. The students will participate in the All School Mass by bringing their canned goods to the altar as part of the offertory procession. Thank you for support of this project. Members of St. Vincent de Paul Society will distribute the canned goods to those in need. The annual Cardinal Christmas Basketball Game will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 1:30pm. Admission to the game is one unwrapped toy. The toys will be donated to Catholic Charities to be given as Christmas gifts. Christmas cards for prison ministry-the St. Louis Prison Ministry would appreciate donations of blank Christmas cards for use in their ministry. You may send them to the school office. These cards may be new or ones you did not use last year. Adopt a family for Christmas- St. Louis School and the St. Louis chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society are partnering to help families in need. Each year, St. Vincent de Paul identifies less fortunate families in our community; many have no way to provide Christmas for their families. If you would like more information on how you can help a local family with Christmas this year please call Haden Kane ( ) or Melyne Strickland ( ).

6 Ms. Alex s Antarctic Adventures Alex Eilers, of the Pink Palace Museum, headed back to the U.S. Antarctic Science Center at McMurdo Station on November 6 th. She finally arrived on November 11 th (Memphis time). There are several activities you can participate in on the Pink Palace Museum website and on her blog, Check in each day to follow all her adventures and learn about Weddell Seals! All the SLS second graders sent postcards with Ms. Alex. She had to ship them down in September since she had over 3,500 postcards from throughout the U.S. and even some from other countries. She mailed them back by U.S. Post on November 14 th. How long do you think it takes for them to get back to Memphis?

8 Auction Information & FAQ s: The auction is Home & School s biggest and final major fundraising event of the year! It includes an online auction, a silent auction featuring items made by the classes, a live auction, and a dinner & dance. You can support the auction by donating items, sponsoring the auction, bidding online, and by purchasing tickets to the live event. The online auction website is and runs February 12 February 26. The Live event is in the Clunan Center on February 28 at 6:30pm. There is no dress code, but the theme this year is casual and fun. Feel free to dress like a famous Memphian or to dress like you re going to Brookhaven Circle, Overton Square, or Downtown for a night out with friends! The auction is one of the only times of the year that we can all get together in one place. There will be two bars with beer and wine available for purchase, a free signature drink and appetizers during happy hour, a dinner prepared by our auction food committee, and many great items to win!! All proceeds benefit our school. To purchase tickets to the live event, submit the ticket order form with a check made out to SLS H&S to the school office. Space is limited, so please turn in your forms as soon as possible. If you would like to sit with friends, you can turn in your checks with one form. If you do not have a full table, we will fill it for you. If you purchase individual tickets, we will do our best to seat you with parents from your children s classes.
