2 Exalted Ruler s Message A lot of great things are happening at the. If you want to be a part and make your voice heard come to the meetings. I enjoy the meetings especially when we help others in the community. The web page is starting to catch up with our busy schedule and we have ELK TV in the lounge that broadcasts the upcoming events and also some candid shots of your friends enjoying themselves at the lodge. Come check it out - you might even spot yourself having fun too. May is State convention month. We will be traveling to Orlando the end of the month to meet with members from throughout the state. I will be attending many meetings and training seminars and I ll also network with other Exalted rulers in the district and state. We are working to restart bingo soon. Our projected date is June. If you would like to help out see Kathryn Helhoski or Connie Sarnowski. They can help find the perfect volunteer fit for you. The event parking is doing great. We have many events on the schedule so there is plenty to volunteer for. Don t worry if you are not sure what to do; we have a very good on the job training program. Kathryn even has some brightly colored vests that go with anything and can be seen for miles. We got through the first month of membership renewal very well. The Secretary tells me we have fewer delinquent members at this point than in past years. To get out the membership cards for over twelve hundred members and spouses as efficiently as possible, the Secretary had some help from several members, including Pat Shipley, Katherine Helhoski. The most behind the scene help came from Kevin and Cathleen Walsh who not only helped with the renewal preparations, but have also volunteered to assist with other administrative projects in the Secretary s Office. I would like to recognize them as May Co-Elks of the Month. Thanks for volunteering!! 3 ***Florida Elks Youth Camp*** Sign up for Summer Camp Please get children who are in need of going to camp this summer signed up for the camp. Boys and Girls from age 9-13 are eligible. The cost is $180 per child for the week. If unable to pay our lodge will support any child from the area to go to camp. They do not have to be Elks #829 members. Please contact me with any questions regarding the camp and/or registration for the camp. The application MUST be filled out on line at: You can contact me cell or at: Thanks again for your donations of clothing, games, sports items and other things that are appropriate for the 9-13 year old children who attend our Florida Elks Youth Camp. We continue to need donations, particularly SPORTS equipment that can be used at the camp. Keep them coming!! 2017/2018 Dues Approximately 850 renewals have been processed and the cards mailed out. New cards are mailed immediately when renewals are received at the beginning of the week. When renewals are received on Thursdays or Fridays, the cards are held at the bar over the weekend in case the member wants to pick it up. On Monday, all cards being held are mailed. If you want to pick up a card or have it sent to a different address, please include a note with your payment or send an to the Secretary. 4 Eland News Hand & Hand, Building a Future for Children COMMITTEE CHAIRS First thing that I d like to do as the incoming Eland president is to thank all of the ladies that helped Eland s have another successful year of fun and fund raising. This includes the Eland officers, committee chairs, members and several lady elks that also volunteered. Nothing could be accomplished without this cooperation. I would also like to thank the Elks for a wonderful installation and awards dinner. From the past year s hard earned fund raising efforts, the Elands have made donations to 7 local charities as well as the Elks children s therapy, the Elks scholarship fund and our donation to the Florida Elks Youth Camp will pay for 10 campers to attend this summer s camp. Our new slate of officers for the year are as follows: President Sharyn Grace; Vice-president Judy Reyes; Secretary - Ethel Picknally; Treasure Elizabeth Bastedo; Chaplain - Elizabeth Wise; Fund raising event/garage Sale chair - Annett Pacetti-Heggie; Publicity chair Linda Rittenhouse. I am personally indebted to these ladies generous commitment of their time and talents. Thank you, ladies. Please put the following dates in your calendar: July 15, 2017 Saturday evening will be our Annual Luau, our major fund raiser. September 16, 2017 Saturday evening will a sock hop, for major fun and dancing. January 20, 2018 Saturday morning will be our garage and white elephant sale, also a major fund raiser. We hope you will come support and enjoy these 3 Eland events.
