1 Date: 12/5/17 Dear Members It was wonderful to have a meeting at Natalie s after such a long break. Although we had a long list of apologies we still had an enthusiastic group there to hear our guest speaker PP Ian Donald from the RC of Monash. Ian lead us through the various grants available to clubs for domestic and global projects and we should be aware of these funds that are available to clubs. It is several years now since our participation in the water and sanitation project in Moradabad in India and The Mercy Foundation Hospital in Bangkok. As a matter of interest the Australian board of the Mercy Foundation held a fund raiser in Sydney on Friday of this Week. Louise did a great job as Chairperson for our meeting. PE David encouraged members of his incoming team and newer members to attend the District Assembly to be held on Sunday 21st May at Deakin University. Next Tuesday is a partners evening and so we expect a good roll up to listen to our guest speaker from the Warrandyte Historical Society. We will also have our AG Enid and her partner Ray as guests. As we are rapidly approaching our change over dinner could I ask all committee Chairs to start preparing their annual reports. On my count, we only have five more meetings to the end of this Rotary year. President Kevin We have just received word that member Laurie Prentice has been stricken with a nasty bout of shingles which will put him out of action for a few weeks. We wish Laurie a speedy recovery and hope he is not in too discomfort.

2 OTHER NEWS Bob Fry reported that the old caravan has at last been moved from his home, finally averting divorce proceedings by his long serving wife Carolyn. Long may the old van live in its new home up in the bush (and hope it survived the journey!). Model United Nations Assembly took place recently and we have sponsored some students so there will be more information about this eventually.

3 Laurie Prentice reported that the local Yarra Valley Grammar School is holding a concert. See attached flyer with photos at bottom of article. PE David George once again mentioned District Assembly being held on 21 st May. This is a most useful event for new members to attend to learn more about the workings of Rotary. Tunstall Market: A record market at the last Tunstall Market was a wonderful result. Warrandyte Riverside Market: last Saturday was a great success again and a lovely morning with plenty of Rotary helpers and others out to keep the market working well. DONATIONS Bob Fry reported that Youth Services have donated 10 microscopes to the local Donvale Kindergarten to the value of $240. Judy Hall reported that a $2000 donation to Legacy has been activated to coincide with our last market which is our Anzac Market. Community Committee and Youth Services Committee have donated $3000 toward a special fund for Warrandyte Football Club to establish to assist players who may not have the finances to pay for kit and equipment needed to continue with their football career. This is important to keep young people engaged in sport and the community. We will hear more about his when we have guest speakers from the Football Club come to one of our upcoming meetings. New Web Site: the new site is up and running thanks to hard work by Steven Wong from and the committee. The Bulletin will change format and Steven will come to the club soon to run through the changes. In the meantime, s will be sent explaining how to access the calendar of events and President s Messages. It is easy! Also, our Facebook Page is linked to the web site now so we urge members to join Facebook even if only to join the club Facebook page and receive postings. We will be posting a lot of our photos onto this platform as it has a wide reach and is easier than posting onto the web site and bulletin. To access the web site, bulletin and Facebook go to

5 We are very pleased to announce the arrival of Archie David Jansen. After a two -hour labour (just as well we didn't mess about when we got the call at 1.45am), Leanne delivered, all natural, no stitches or painkillers, a very healthy, and of course beautiful baby boy. He weighed in at 3.88kg (8lb.9ozs.), and 52 cm long, at 3.21am. Shane returned home at 7.30am, collected the sleepy girls and took them to 'meet' their brother. They all returned home a few hours later. Shane went to have a snooze, Leanne was her usual chatty self, bright as a button. Mandy, Rod and the boys came over for a nurse, before Mandy started on her 3pm shift. Can't believe it was all over so quickly. Hope you are all well. Nanna and Papa George.
