1 ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF POMONA VALLEY Today s Volunteers Meeting the Needs of Tomorrow OCTOBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS President Sharon Goodrich 1 st VP Membership Cathy Harden 2 nd VP Philanthropies Robbie Larson 3 rd VP Resource Development Lisa Frazier Treasurer Jessica Ortega Recording Secretary Lynne Kirchhoff Corresponding Secretary Public Relations Strategic Planning Chapter Liaison Maria Craig Carol Holmes Michelle Williams Kathy Jarvis PRESIDENT S MESSAGE As I write this on the last day of September, I cannot believe 1) that another month has come and gone and 2) the amount of work our members have completed. We truly hit the ground running although many of us worked throughout the summer months. Scheduling a major fundraiser for October 5 th was daunting but Chairman Nitzi Barker has pulled it together with much assistance from her committee chairmen and general membership. The Opportunity Baskets are magnificent!!!! In order to maintain our Philanthropic Programs this year, we will have to schedule a variety of smaller fundraisers. For example, on December 13 th after a tiring day of shopping, drop by the Brick Deli and Market on Garey and Arrow Highway and pick up dinner. We will receive 20% of their receipts from 2-7 PM. They will also give us 10% of all orders placed and paid for you to have during the holidays. Other good ideas will result from the meeting scheduled on October 13 th that includes Strategic Planning, Finance and Resource Development Committee members. Speaking of philanthropies, our Dental Center opened for business on September 16 th with seven patients. On Wednesday, the 17 th, Operation School Bell completed the year s first delivery to grateful families. Books, Hygiene Kits and Community Closet items were icing on the cake. October 1 st begins our Second Annual Book Drive. We will gladly place collection boxes at any site you can suggest. Once again we will partner with Western University and add other college campuses to our effort. At the October 7 th regular business meeting, we will select from general membership representatives for the Nominating Committee. We will need three members and one alternate. At the October 16 th Board Meeting, we will select two members and one alternate. Committee work will begin in January. Also, on the 7 th, we will have a motion to charge $10 for meals at each regular meeting beginning in November. These funds, less and expenses, will be used to offset costs of the Annual Luncheon and the 2015 National Conference to be held in San Diego. See you on Sunday at the Tea..Sharon Page 1
2 MEMBERSHIP Hi All! This is your friendly reminder to me yes or no by Friday, October 3 rd if you will be attending the October meeting. Please remember this is an evening meeting. Oh, did I add that we had lots of fun as well? After all, it is the "happiest place on earth!" ~Carol Holmes cdb_holmes@yahoo.com Sunday afternoon several Assistance League Members attended a Memorial Service for long time member Becky Roth at the Hilton's DoubleTree in Claremont. Audrey Crabtree was able to share how she and Becky were in the same provisional class and how we all hold our cherished memories of ALPV times together dear.
